Green says role at ORU temporary

He says his family does not want to run the school.

Mart Green, who has offered Oral Roberts University $70 million if it makes certain changes, told students in a campus chapel service Friday that his family does not want to run the school in the long term.

"Our direct involvement is temporary," said the founder of Mardel Christian and educational supply stores. The family wants to change the school's governance, finances and leadership so ORU will last "100 years and beyond."

In the last chapel service of the semester, students cheered at Green's proclamation. Several of Green's family mem bers also attended the service -- their first at ORU.

An accreditation team has told ORU to make changes in the areas Green mentioned. Leadership changes also have occurred following the filing of a lawsuit that brought to light allegations of misspending and heavy-handed management by former President Richard Roberts, who has denied wrongdoing. Roberts resigned Nov. 23.

Following the lawsuit, ORU leaders revealed the school is $52.5 million in debt.

ORU students and alumni attracted Green to ORU to offer his donaBalance = 40.0

pts tion, he said. He has worked with them and met them at church, and "I saw the life in you."

His family believes in the mission of Christian higher education, he said, and that mission will not change.

"From our point of view, ORU's greatest days are ahead."

ORU board of regents Chairman George Pearsons read Bible verses that said in part, "my help comes from the Lord," and Pearsons said, "We've had help that has come from the Lord."

He cheered the Greens after listing other offers of help that ORU has received. He explained that Pat Robertson had sent a team from Regent University, including two ORU alumni, to visit ORU because Robertson "just wants to do everything he can to ensure our future."

In earlier comment threads, many, including myself, have expressed bitterness, rage, and cynicism against each other. It is a typical societal characteristic in a dysfunctional environment. Oral, Richard, & Lindsay created an environment of fear, greed, the lust for power, even for sex, and the cavalier manipulation and disdain for the grace of God and His holy commands. They were legalists when freedom was demanded and libertines when holiness and integrity was needed. And, as it says in the prophets, "like people, like priest." And the same behavior is exhibited among faculty, staff, and students, like wolves tearing each other apart: backbiting, gossip, cynicism, much of the behavior that we are exhibiting now.

I have, in earlier threads, defended Pat Robertson, and what would appear to be a rational relationship that would place ORU on sound academic and financial footing. My own personal experience in his bailout of the law school, from which I graduated, was a major factor. I don't apologize for that, but gauging some of the comments, it would appear that Pat also has had a damage to his credibility that he did not have in 1985-86. The man has not always been wise in his public statements and business arrangements (the blood diamonds incident, which, I admit, I would have to research more). But, unless you're one of the much more cynical, you can't argue with the fact that Regent University is a solid, highly sucessful university that could forge relationships that would transform both universities.

However, I do take pause after reading some of the more thoughtful criticisms of any relationship of ORU to Regent through Pat Robertson. The future president of ORU, as well as the Board of Regents, is going to have to be like Caesar's wife, in terms of business ethics and competence, as well as in spiritual quality and business acumen.

It would be important that those who are Board members and administrators and major players in the unprincipled actions of the Roberts family should resign, and clean up the BOR. Even if Pat Robertson is not going to engender trust and wisdom, his involvement in ORU would.

I'm keeping my counsel, but I will pray. Ciao.

Pat Robertson tells the gullible that he has "revelations",and that he is a prophet that makes predictions. His predictions fail.A prophet whose predictions are 80% correct is no prophet.A true prophet is always correct. His Regent University degrees ane like ORU degrees, they barely meet accredidation.Ask the human resources of corporations about their opinion of these degrees.Pat told us he had a "revelation" that he should run for president of the USA.He failed partly because he lied about his "combat experience" in Korea. He entered into agreements with dictators involving blood diamonds and gold. The bottom line about Pat and his business corporations,,uh,,I mean churches,,is Money and slick marketing designed to seperate the gullible from their hard earned money.Watch,he will continue to have failed predictions.little richard and lindsay and pat are going to continue to preach prosperity if you send them money.

Mr. Green will clear out in a hurry as soon as he has to deal with Oral and the Board of Regents. I'm sure he had no idea what he was getting into. Who wants to bet the donation of the rest of the millions will be withdrawn? Or OR/BOR might go along with his "requests" and then go back to their old ways after they receive the money. Time will tell. Run fast, Mr. Green.

Thank God for Mr. Green and the other Christians working together in good faith to rebuild ORU. I pray they succeed.

As for the whiners, pick your battles! The vast majority of people "go with the flow" most of the time. Speaking as one who bucks the tide once in a while, I've got to say that's for the best. You can flat wear yourself out with continual combat.

The folks at ORU have a different brand of Christianity than the main stream. I've heard people try to define it as "Evangelical, Charismatic, Pentecostal and WOF, plus every combination of the aforementioned. Whatever! They're free to practice it, whatever it is! Thank God for that.

Leave 'em alone. For that matter, give 'em a wide berth. As long as they've got their religious freedoms, you can be sure of your own. You don't have to agree with 'em to live and let live.

Quit crying martyr, nobody is imposing on their precious "religious freedoms" just because a few people on the internet make level a critique of their lifestyle.

They should be grateful for us. How else are they going to scratch that martyr itch?

Why do they call it "CHAPEL"? They sound more like business meetings. As I've followed these stories all along, I keep hearing about all the business that is conducted during chapel service. I had heard that there was a $50 fine for missing them. Seems to me that it is "CHAPEL" by name only. Where is the Guest of Honor?

Well FIFTY- I gotta run home now & get some shut eye.

By the way, you may not realize what I've been doing with you this evening....

actually I was being YOU!!

(minus the mad liberal black female) part)

Did you notice that all I did was make sarcastic comments to your diatribes & always tried to get in the last word-did essentially everything that you like to do minus the hated & negativity.....

How was the shoe on the other foot??

I think many or most of us are fed up with your sarcasm, hatred ,& negativity if that is all you can provide....instead of being mature enough to post in a civil manner . Ponder that, Ciao

Mr Green you have enter into the dimension known as the twilight zone, that place where the strange and bizarre exist with life and the living.

Mr. Green will clear out in a hurry as soon as he has to deal with Oral and the Board of Regents.

--------------------------------------

That's for sure.Nothing in his business life has prepared him for the fleecing he is about to get from the world's best snake-oil salesmen -- Oral, Pearsons, the BOR and admin.

Everyone will gather around money-bags and assure him of whatever he wants to hear-- get the money-- and do as they always have done.

You can't change 40 years of "culture" so easily. The sickness at ORU goes to the bone and marrow. It's institutionalized.

Of course everyone will agree, to get the money. Then do business as usual.

Poor Mr. Green. Stand still . Let them fleece you as you've never been fleeced.

Actually, it's kind of fun to watch it all play out.

Of course it's indoctrination.

Student cheer and weep for RR saying farewell.

They cheer for the latest flavor -- Green.

Trot in Goofy and they would cheer and week.

They're christo-robots, trained to respond that way to certain stimuli.

I am impatiently waiting to read that Copleand, Hinn, Dollar and the other disgraceful TV Con-men have been booted off the BOR and replaced with honorable Christians. As said before, Oral Roberts started off with people like Billy Grahm and ended up with people like RR, Hinn, Dollar, Copeland, Duplantis, Crouch and Tilton. No wonder ORU has become a joke and disgrace.

COVER-UP OR CLEAN-UP?

WHERE is that secret report Mr. Pearsons?

And why keep it secret if it clears all of you?

--Oh-- I get it. The legal cases.

------------------------------------------

--Then, how about pledging to release it in full when the legal cases are over?

-- Wouldn't that be good if it clears you all?

----------------------------------------

Your silence proves what's going on is

a COVER-UP , not a CLEAN-UP
