Creflo Dollar resigned from the regents, and Benny Hinn is now a "regent emeritus" with no voting power.

The evangelist Creflo Dollar has resigned from the Oral Roberts University board of regents, and another evangelist, Benny Hinn, has lost his status as a voting member of the board.

ORU's spokesman Jeremy Burton confirmed Wednesday that Dollar had resigned and that Hinn had been named a "regent emeritus" without a vote on the board.

Both refused last week to respond to a Senate inquiry into lavish spending by evangelists.

A Canadian businessman, Richard Pearson, has been named to ORU's board of business regents. Pearson, who operates a bus company, was formerly on the nonvoting portion of the board.

Burton had no comment on the reasons for the changes.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, asked last month for financial information from six media-based ministries, including those run by Hinn and Dollar. Grassley said he was investigating complaints about "generous salaries and housing allowances and amenities such as private jets and Rolls-Royces" allegedly owned by the ministries.

Hinn and Dollar did not

provide the information to Grassley by a Thursday deadline. Hinn operates World Healing Center Church Inc. and Benny Hinn Ministries of Grapevine, Texas. Dollar operates World Changers Church International in suburban Atlanta.

ORU's board has 23 business regents and 18 others who are spiritual regents, associate regents and regents emeritus. Those 18 other regents do not have a vote in business and financial matters, according to ORU's bylaws.

The bylaws give Richard and Oral Roberts wide authority on all spiritual matters, including the right to veto decisions by business regents on such matters.

Richard Roberts resigned as ORU's president Nov. 23 after three former professors filed a lawsuit. The suit alleges that Roberts and his family misspent university and ministry money and lived lavishly.

A Tulsa District Court judge is scheduled to hear several motions in the lawsuit Tuesday.

ORU's board of regents had been scheduled to meet Wednesday, but Burton said the meeting had been canceled because of the ice storm. Burton said he did not know when the next meeting would take place.

I have been reading the trash that is being written here and some of you people here are no better the the Roberts or any of the BOR. What is the difference between judging and stealing, according to the Bible there is none. Some of you are writting things here and don't even know what you are talking about. When each one of us stand before GOD and give an account of what we have said what will each of us say? I think that is what Proverbs means when it says a foolish man who keeps his mouth shut is a wise man.

GOD bless you all

Maybe a bigger problem is Christians who refuse to see the truth, and prefer to sweep all allegations under the rug. Cowardice is an epidemic (and cowardice is masquerading as love, patience, and tolerance). Much of this financial abuse is well documented on the web and in TV shows for those who really want to know the truth. There is some scum at the top of "Christian leadership" because way too many Christians refuse to be good stewards. It is lazy to give blindly. Laziness is also a sin. These sins give all Christians a bad name, whether greedy/lazy or not.

.

Titus 1:11-13 (NIV)

11They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." 13This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith.

I wonder if the parties have agreed who to use for the mediation. I am doubtful that mediation will bring a resolution, but am glad they are going to try it. Some positive changes have taken place, but I think they have come from the the pressure of media attention, the alums, students and hopefully, parents. I would have never considered ORU for myself or my children because it was common knowledge in Tulsa that all was not as it appeared. With some big changes and new blood maybe they can survive and attract a new generation of Christians. But they are going to have to let go of the arrogance, denounce the WOFer mentality and rehabilitate the years of a negative image that has been created....by their own behavior.

To Bernie, (12/11/2007 2:12:15 PM)
I think you should consider the possiblity that Titus 1:11-13 actually applies to you. You called some Christians lazy cowards and you called some ministries, scum and liars about financial abuse. Paul was not saying the accused should be silenced but rather those doing the accusing. It appears you are assuming that people should not be teaching prosperity and that those who are doing it have the motive of dishonest gain. Paul taught prosperity, John taught prosperity and most important, Jesus taught prosperity. We who support these ministries are not cowards or clueless. We are well aware of your accusations, but we can also see these truths in the Word and have had the Lord confirm His Word in our lives. So even though there are some who may teach for dishonest gain, thay are probably not who you think they are, and you are left condemning minsitries blessed of the Lord. Verse 10 identifies more clearly who is being addressed. They are the idle, vain, misleading talkers who who are self deceived and who are deceiving others. That seems to describe many of the self appointed judges that have been posting daily.

MAYBE HEARING VOICES & 'CHRISTIAN" LEADERS TELLING KIDS, "GOLD TOLD ME" IS NOT SUCH A GOOD THING.

--------------------------------------

The tragic shootings at YWAM and Ted Haggard's church in Colorado seem to be a result of the kid hearing voices.

------------------------------------

CNN reports

Matthew Murray was kicked out of a missionary training program five years ago for strange behavior, and talked about hearing voices, according to a man who served at the center with him.

When "Christian" leaders use the "God told me" line to justify anything they want to do they may encourage the same kind of erratic behavior in their unstable followers.

Parents have to be doubly careful where they send their kids.

Hello, Sojourner I have spent 50 years in all areas of adult education. From your very good writing, with almost no words misspelled (unlike a bunch of you guys on these comments), I can tell that you are a person of high intelligence. During my years as college/university professor, the strongest students I had were older adults who came back to school after rearing their families. You have plenty of time to earn a college degree, if you want to. I agree with the advice that you take the GED. Don't let anyone put you down for only finishing 10th grade. Shame on those who have criticized you. Go for it!

#97 You are correct.

There is nothing great about being broke. The Broke Theology /Poverty Theology ideas so many have are sad.

With today's subprime mortgage crisis and millions behind on the credit card payments, too much money is hardly the problem. If people think having money is a sin, then they should give it away. Being broke has caused millions of people to be put in a mode where they wind up begging from family, friends, relatives, and even Government.

Broke/Poverty has no upside. The other problem is that people can be greedy and covetous and not have a penny.

It's about attitudes of the heart. Many are jealous of those that God has prospered ,but they won't even admit it to themselves. Jealousy is the core issue here. You cannot give to ministries, support missionaries by being broke. It takes money. Many People talk broke, think broke, and not surprisingly ARE broke. You have to wonder why people want to limit God's blessings in their lives.

You assume to much OHMYGOSH, (12/11/2007 2:41:59 PM)
You assume that everyone has bought into this scam by the profs. For your information, this past college weekend brought in a full house of kids and parents. This was before RR resignation and the Green factor. So when you speak of survival, ORU was and is nowhere near distruction. The TW has allowed Richardson and the Profs to put on a public scam. The judge forced Richarson and the profs into mediation. Richardson fears mediation because he has a very weak legal case. All based on rumors and he said she said. Stolen computer files, conflict of interest. His scam stinks worse than wrongfull termination.

I think mediation can work. Swalis probably has a real case if they didn't follow the terms of his contract. I don't know about the other guys. But how much will they get? I don't know. As far as further revelations of wrong doing by the Roberts or confirmation of the present allegations it would see that since RR has "left" these are muted. What difference does it make. Other than spite or a possible IRS investigation I can't see why anyone would say anything.

-

Now just for fun and to play conspiracy games. How about this for a RR game plan: the BOR lets RR step down. They get to restructure the debt and as a bonus 8 million from the Greens. Plus whatever other "save ORU" money they can get. They settle the law suit, publish new management guideline to address accountability and Board control Then add a couple of people from the Greens family to the board but not enough to control a vote. ORU gets what money they can from the Greens.

Then after a sufficient cooling off period vote Richard back on as President or Chancellor and give him back the power. The Greens resign in protest and everyone goes on as before.

-

I don't believe this and really think RR is gone but this would be an interesting saga if it played out. But Just one of many "could be" stories. Stay in faith and pray.

TW bias is being played out this very hour. Several news agency have been reporting for hours that the Judge ordered mediation. That is court ordered medaition This is a big loss for Richardson and profs. Yet TW has not reported this. ORU asked for medaition in one of thier motions. If ORU would have lost this it would be the lead story. Wake up people.

102 – Be careful or your misspelling will give you away again.

---------

The professors have wanted mediation all along; their only stipulation has been that the defendants be open to admitting possible wrong doings. The defendants have had a strong line of denials and nothing else. It’s hard to mediate (or sort out) anything when one side is strongly set in.

---------

The professors want the truth out and ORU is digging their heels in at every turn.

---------

I’m weary of anyone posting that’s hateful to the defendants or the plaintiffs; it shows an obvious lack of reason.

let me ask, if mediation produces positive results, then on the court date, the judge will rule, case closed, right?

if the negociations break down, and there is no common ground to speak of, then it goes back into trial. is this right?

This case is about worngful termination. The Brookers quit, Swials was fired. Swails was fired for passing around and talking to his students about the report that was stolen from SCs computer. He did not go directly and quitly to the board. It will be proven that Swails violated a number of school policies. Sever enough that his tenure status was irrelavent. Even if they settle in mediation, for what ever sum, the Robetts family will win their suit agianst the profs for defamation of character, etc. Remeber their is a Jane Doe vs John Does suit that is hanging out there that will put these profs and Richardson on thier heels. I find it interesting the Swails daughters stoped posting when that counter suit was filed.

Could you show me a post that they wrote that you consider as defamation? If not, what relevance does mentioning the plaintiff's family have to do with this?

From NewsOK:

.

TULSA — A Tulsa County judge today ordered three former Oral Roberts University professors to begin mediation to settle their wrongful-termination lawsuit.

.

Defendants in the lawsuit include the university, its board of regents and several school administrators, including former president Richard Roberts.

.

Attorney John Tucker, who represents all defendants except Richard Roberts, said the defense has sought mediation since the lawsuit was filed in October.

.

Plaintiffs John Swails and Tim and Paulita Brooker claim they were forced out for refusing to have students work on the mayoral campaign of a candidate Richard Roberts favored, and for notifying their bosses of a report alleging Roberts and his family enjoyed lavish lifestyles at the school’s expense.

.

Defense attorneys are seeking a gag order and the disqualification of the professors' main attorney, Gary Richardson.

.

District Judge Rebecca Nightengale delayed today's hearing on those issues because of the weather. The hearing was reset for Jan. 9.
