Limbs can be left at curbside for collection, city says

Homeowners wanting to get rid of their fallen tree limbs should simply take them to the curbside for collection. It’s not necessary to break them down into bundles, said Dan Crossland of the Public Works Department. “If you can get it out there, we will haul them away,” said Crossland, adding that it will be several days until they will be picked up. “We are still busy clearing the roadways.”

Has the TW talked with any other communities about how they will handle the clean-up of tree limbs.

Tulsa is doing a great job of handling this catastrophe and getting messages out to the public. Way to go Kathy and all your staff.

Is this just for the city of Tulsa? My girlfriend lives in Broken Arrow and has a whole lot of limbs down in her backyard, and it would be great news to find out that all I have to do is break them up a bit and get them to the curb.

Most cities will do some type of debris pick up. Muskogee did it last year and Tulsa has done it in the past.

thanks tw for the info...thats great news as the trash is piling up quickly as well...cant wait to get back to normal...lots of trees still by the roads in west tulsa but the citizens "westsiders" of the west side are doing a great job at helping one another out and getting trees off the road...and sharing what each other may have to offer...

Thanks to the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. They are the ones who are ofering to pay for the removal. Tulsa does not have enough money to clear the strets let alone offer to haul many tons of firewood out. Thanks go to the mayor for asking for a National grant or what ever they call it. It may be months if its handled like Katrina, so you may want to haul it to a central point if tulsa opens some. Lets band together and help those who cannot get the debis to the curb. Stop the major rip off artists who will promise to help but want money up front especially a prey on the elderly or handicapped.

for tulsa residents, fox news reported that if you can not drop the tree limbs off you can call, 596-9711. This is with the city of tulsa and the news report said they will pick them up out of your front yard just no telling how long until they can get to it. So if you can at least move the branches out of the way for now you can always call this number.

----------------

And please people in this time please remember our neighbors!! If you have the time and ability to help a neighbor with fallen tree branches in their yard, PLEASE DO!! The person could be elderly, handicapped, a single parent who could use the help, or a number of other things. Remember we are what helps make Oklahoma a great place to live, and if crews can come from out of state to help get our electricity back on, then we can do a little to help a neighbor.

After this huge and unexpected ice storm all the city of Coweta will do is pick up bundles that are tied and no longer than 4' long and offer a debris dump site. What happened to the FEMA request? Isn't the state a federal disaster? Gee, when you have a whole tree or yard full of debris piled at the curb or still in the yard what are widows, the handicapped, single mothers, or those on a fixed income to do, not to mention debris that blocks major storm water runoff and causes flooding for the homeowneres. I join thousands in Coweta who are lodging a formal complaint

Doug - I don't know why AEP has not come to trim your trees. They requested to take trees and limbs down from our yard in Jenks as well as a couple of properties we have in the City of Tulsa within the past year.

-

I suppose that they may be working certain areas of town and then move on to others areas, but we had to sign forms to give them permission to cut down the trees and trim branches. They actually hired a contractor and had many crews working to trim.

Does anyone know of Jenks has a plan for tree/limb removal? Maybe I should check out their web-site.

OK Jenks residents. I have answered my own question. Here's the info.:

~

Jenks residents may bring debris from fallen tree limbs to ParkWest which is accessed from 101st Street west of Elm and from Main Street south on Koa.

~

Limbs should be placed in an area immediately north of the Little League Football field on the west side of the Street adjacent to the creek. This facility will be open for such placement until Monday, December 24th.

~

Residents may also place tree limbs from their yard in the public right of way (the area immediately adjacent to the roadway). Please do NOT block or cover a fire hydrant or obstruct access to a roadway mail box. City and/or contractor crews will be collecting debris over the next two weeks as weather conditions and other essential repairs (such as water breaks) will allow. This work will be scheduled neighborhood at a time after an initial removal of areas that need to be moved because of other city functioning needs.

~

Any particular location that appears to have been overlooked, may be reported to the main City phone number at 299-5883.

Okay, so Tulsa and Jenks will pick the stuff up for you, but the so-called "fastest growing communities" of Broken Arrow and Bixby require you to take your limbs to drop-off points. I'll just load tree-sized limbs into my compact car and srive them right over - NOT!!! What are Bixby and BA thinking??? What's wrong with these guys???

After last January's ice storm, the only thing the city of Coweta would do is pick up your limbs ONLY if they were in tied up bundles, no longer than 5 feet long, and no more than 5 bundles per pick-up. GEE THANKS, huh????

Way to go Kathy--you HAVE got to be kidding. I havent not heard one word from her highness. She is probably hold up in her 30,00 sq ft mansion with her servants. No power, no food, old people freezing in care homes, looters in the neighborhoods, traffic lights out. Maybe she should commission a report by an outside agency to deterine how best for her and her team to handle it.

Inresponse to #4 Todd....I live in Broken Arrow too. I went to BA city's

and found the information below

12/11/2007

Contact: Keith Sterling Director of Communications City of Broken Arrow Phone: (918) 259-2400, ext. 5309 Mobile: (918) 851-0735 Fax: (918) 259-8226 Broken Arrow Debris Removal Several sites will be designated for limbs and brush Broken Arrow, Okla. (December 11, 2007) – The City of Broken Arrow will be designating drop off centers for storm debris within the next 24 hours. Residents will be able to transport and discard limbs and brush at several locations throughout the city. This will expedite the cleanup process from the recent ice storm. City crews continue to work to clear debris. Once the roadways clear, they will return to remove curbside items. Residents may leave their debris at the curbside but should be advised that removal of those limbs will not begin for at least 2 weeks and could take up to 6 weeks to complete. The drop off sites will be for residential debris only. Debris from tree removal companies will not be accepted at these locations.

Thanks #10! Good news. I'll keep my eye on the BA website (which I should have just gone to first, heh) to find out where the drop-off points will be.
