About 186,000 homes and businesses remain without power in the Tulsa metro area, American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma officials said Wednesday morning.

That's down from a high of about 246,000, said Preston Kissman, AEP-PSO vice president of distribution.

Thousands of linemen are working as quickly as possible to restore the electricity.

"We're working in all four quadrants of the city," he said. "People will be seeing our crews out in full force."

The homeless go the the center at the salvation army. The salvation Army provides some place for them to keep warm during the day and some nights.

They only pick up our trash once a week. Kathy Taylor has once again foisted Ron Palmer on us. Ain't seen a single PSO truck since Sunday. Guess who will get their power turned on last?

For everyone who says PSO was not properly managed, or prepared, can any of you people say, you voted yes for a rate increase on your bill, to allow more workers? Can any of you say you petitoned the OCC to say, yes to the latest rate proposal, or any previous proposals, that would allow the funds to make the necessary improvements to the pre-existing infrastructure to be updated, improved, ???

How can you take a storm of this magnitude and then get mad because you dont see a PSO truck or City of Tulsa truck on every street, in every neighborhood, at the same time?

Nobody wants the green transformers in their yards---nobody wants PSO to trim their great big dangerous trees which threaten every line they dangle or grow over...especially in storms. How can you expect a company, which still provides pretty much the lowest rates across the board compared to other states, and who tries to jump on a situation as soon as they can, to make improvements when you fight them at every turn.

And they did mobilize---but there is a limited amount of trucks and workers for this city and surrounding areas..,,,there is no way you could even predict which area was going to go out...,did you see the sky on Sunday nite---it was like being surrounded by dropping bombs??

Do you see the transformers blown off the poles, or dropped off from the weight of the ice??? Do you really think that anyone would get out there quicker???

PSO has made great strides under the leadership of their new president, Stuart Solomon, in improving relialability and trying to improve tree trimming and underground projects, which are both met with great resistance in areas,..but as soon as your big ole mulberry tree crashes across everyone's span line, you are irate they did not trim better, they did not call a truck to your house fast enough.....,,everytime a line gets up and on??? another goes down,....did any of you unplug all of your appliances, turn off all switches..,,,a lot of the outages occur because there is such a load when it is energized, it zaps it before it can get up......turn your lights off, unplug things when you see trucks in your area---and wait...

Give em a break----there is only so much so limited amount of men and women can do in an outage of this proportions...

and for those of you who saw trucks rolling thru, not stopping, they are on the way to staging areas---to be assigned to the supervisor for that area, and a tree trimming crew is sent ahead to prepare the street, They have to check the poles, the lines, the transformers, the substations, and every breaker. They have to insure that your tree limbs are not blocking a "hot wire" before any work can be done,...and they also have to have enough supplies to replace all the damaged componets....get a grip, educate yourself and give PSO time to do their job,.

I don't have any problem with the workers cutting trees and repairing lines - good for them for doing a good job in the face of a bad situation. I mainly think whoever is in charge at PSO of the restoration efforts isn't a very efficient planner. This problem is further exasperated by the incredibly poor infrastructure that they built over the years. Ultimately this is their fault - it's a badly built system that is not well maintained - they were just hoping an event like this would never happen that would destroy it in such a way. The saddest part of this is that after everyone has lights and the immediacy of the situation is over, PSO won't be doing any more than they are now at improving their system to prevent this from happening again in the future. I think that is the frustration everyone is expressing - it's valid though misdirected - every year we go through this and there isn't any end in site thanks to the current management of PSO.

You people whining at PSO need to stfu. In case you haven't noticed they have begun to bury lines but since there are so many of them, this is going to take many many years.

This isn't a project that can just start up automatically and be done in 6 weeks. Of course they are planning for it, but that takes time and of all things money. Do you actually think everyone at PSO enjoys working in crap like this? I would have to suspect they do not and I bet a lot of them go home to a powerless house after being outside for 15 hrs or whatever. Get off their backs ffs and take your complaints elsewhere. I think PSO is doing a fantastic job even though I do not have power back and I know they will continue working around the clock until all power is back on.

Zod you looser!! My guess is that you have never been outside the state of Oklahoma and are use to being treated like a 2nd rate citizen. Look around you !! are roads and bridges are in such poor condition, teachers leave the state in droves for better pay elsewhere, and everyone jumps for joy when Mayor Kathy say that there are new 9.50 an hour jobs coming to Tulsa. and we have poor services from are utilities. Your just so use to being treated like crap and having crap service that you will take what you can get and would be happy with that. unlike the rest of us that want better service and not just lip service. Hell, the wind blows hard enough the power goes out. If that's what you expect from your services, then rest your pretty head on your AOL dial up modem, knowing that there are people that care enough to demand better services for there money.

#121...

Fortunately, since a Federal Emergency Declaration Approved, then FEMA will be of assistance.

You should call and report your losses to either:

596-2100 - Mayor's Action Center

or call 211, and they can direct you to the right office for assistance with your power.

The PSO and city response to this event has added to the hazards for the people of Tulsa. Not restoring a traffic light at a busy intersection (81st and Yale) for over 72 hours is irresponsible. This event will cause the citizens to critically evaluate the poor service despite high prices and taxes.

Times like this are very frustrating for everyone involved. I understand tempers flare and people wanting to place blame, but trust me.. these line workers are doing everything they can to restore power to everyone as soon as they can. People have traveled from many different states to try and hope *ALL* Oklahomans out (rich, middle, poor, what have you)..so those of you wagging your tongues about people not moving fast enough for YOUR taste...quit your pissing and moaning and be thankful that you will SOON have power again! What is irresponsible is people that sit on here bitching when you could have your happy asses out there helping clear limbs and debris to help these crews make their jobs go a little quicker and easer..HEY there is a thought! Nah..much easier to sit around and whine on your computer about how much everyone sucks because you don't have your lights.. makes perfect sense to me. Here is another thought.. try being PREPARED! Yea.. there ya go.. that might go a long way in times like these. I have family living in the Tulsa Metro area that has me keeping an eye on the power restoration...but I am simply amazed by some of the comments I have read on this board.. get a grip.. while it may seem like the end of the world to some of you.. there is light at the end of the tunnel if you can exercise a little patience, and maybe next time you will work a little harder at being prepared for a storm regardless of what your forecaster predicts. Having made my way through several long outages in both the summer and winter months for hurricanes and winter storms..there is one thing i have learned and that is the weather is not 100% predictable and neither are the situations such as this that arise from them. So.. instead of complaining... why not ask yourself what YOU can do to make this a little better for yourself and everyone around you. :) For those of you keeping the positive light even in the darkness.. I hope the power crews reach you frist. ;)

You all that are talking about the mayor should be thankful she has backup generators so that she has access to what is going on and can respond appropriately. Even if she doesn't need them for response, if she bought then she has the right to use them just as anyone else who buys them.
