One dead, another in critical condition after house fire
By World staff

Last Modified: 12/14/2007 2:49 PM
A woman died and a man was transported to a hospital in critical condition after they were found inside a burning house Friday.
The woman's stepfather found them in the home at 49th Street and Boston Avenue about noon and yelled to a neighbor to call 911.
Firefighters responded and quickly extinguished the fire. The man was transported to a hospital, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Jason Willingham said that police were called because the preliminary investigation by the fire department revealed some suspicious circumstances.
A charcoal grill was found inside the residence, but it was not immediately clear whether it was being used, he said. The house did not have power at the time of the fire.

Freezing Cold in North Tulsa

live in North Tulsa, and cant believe that all of South Tulsa has power. If all people of minority didnt live up here in N. Tulsa, then we would have power. All the rich white people in South Tulsa have power, why cant I. They told me it is going to be another week at least, I pay my bill just like the rest of you folks. Like I said if I lived in S. Tulsa, then I would have power. I also drove around and noticed alot of stop signs in S. Tulsa (lights dont work) and there are none here in N. Tulsa, dont you find this pretty ridiculous, wake up people something is wrong here!

You need to get a grip! North Tulsa is OLDER than South Tulsa; do you think the ice was prejudice in where it did the damage to trees? Do you think that the storm just targeted minorities????
It makes sense that the "older" electric transformers would be the first to blow; the "new" equipment might have taken a bit longer to give into the ice but areas with "newer" equipment lost power, too.
I understand that you are cold and miserble; but STOP blaming white people for your miseries!

Why are people that live in north Tulsa complaining so much? North Tulsa has always been on the short end of the stick when it comes to services. Get a clue.... MOVE. You knew (or have learned) that north Tulsa isn't all that nice of a place to live, why stay there? Could it be that you aren't smart enough to get a career where you can make the money it takes to live in south Tulsa? Could it be you are just to lazy to work hard enough to better yourselves? If you don't like it, change it. Grow up and realize that life isn't always fair and people with money will ALWAYS be treated better. That's just life.

But, if you really wanna know, I am helping my sick grandma out, I live with her, while I stack cheddar, and yea, I pay bills also.

If you honestly think all of S. Tulsa has power while none of N. Tulsa does, go for a drive after dark. Not much out there that is that prejudiced, other than the fact that many S. Tulsans seem to afford landscapers when they built their homes, and opted for smaller trees and better located them when they planted them, so they are in the yard and not over power lines. That way, when main transformers come back on they don't have all that neighborhood to neighborhood line damage to repair on top of the transformers. They skip 2 or 3 steps by better planning when they built. N. Tulsa was built long before landscaping became really popular and more affordable, so they still have trees down that have knocked out lines house to house. They havve to wait and reconnect them after the main transformer is on.
Now maybe you guys will all pull together (I doubt it judging by the attitudes on both sides here) and listen to what homeland security has told you for yrs about making a survival kit w/ nonperishable food, water, etc. And think about doing this on a permanent basis, or at least an extended one. It may happen someday. So count yourself lucky for now - there are worse places to be right now.

I mean I am not raking in the cash, I only get 200 bucks a day, plus milage and a food allowance, but one day I will have my own brokerage. But, I think thats a decent living from a recent college graduate from Colorado State University, in Ft. Collins, CO. Go Rams!

wow, people are dying and leaving this earth everyday....lost for eternity....some of you guys have done really well in this life, I mean "money" wise.......but until we stop blaming each other we wont ever get anywhere.....and to the person that mentioned "lazy" "work hard" you might want to read some of this countries history.... people of color help build this country "free of charge".....or lets just travel back to Tulsa..1920;s or so........Blacks were really doing well , some were millionares, I beleive the white folks actually (the lazy, the ones who did not want think that any "people" despite color can be more than a great sucess in this country if allowed to operate on the same level playing field........so heres a thought why not let all people just be Tulsans, Oklahomans, Americans. Stop believing everything you hear or see on T.V.....how many people of color do you hang out with? how many people of color do you go to church with? same for both sides..........anyway just a thought

Wow, someone tragically died and now we have turned the comment portion of this article into a racial debate. Hmmm, I forgot what the article was about by the time I got done reading the comments. Everyone in town has suffered something from this storm, unfortunately, someone lost a loved one, lets keep that in perspective!!!!

do you see my point?????everything goes back to race. I am so sorry for the loss of this person. How horrible. My thoughts are with this family. Unfortunately, some people are too selfish and self absorbed in self pity to care about others.....Do you understand we don't buy it, don't want to hear it. Next week it will be something else you are pulling the race card out for......it's old. If you are so smart and successful then work on building up your community...have you ever thought about that? are you just waiting for someone else to fix it for you....because we all owe you for something we didn't do and you didn't suffer....the "We are persecuted" thing is wearing out...get something new going on...TRY COMPASSION

I 'TOTALLY" agree with the last comment. Why not try and build North Tulsa instead of blaming others. We have alot of successful "Blacks" from Tulsa that you never here about coming back to Tulsa and helping within the community. I did not say "all" but some (majority). And the ones that do, go out South to start a business, why is that? Is it because its so much black on black crime in North Tulsa? I would never have a business in North Tulsa and I AM BLACK - it's sad how we always pull that race card about black this and black that but we can't even have anything nice because our homes are broken into or our cars are stolen right out our front yard. I am not saying its a "black" thing only but thats whats going on in North Tulsa - I guess I was fortunate to get out of North Tulsa and some are not as fortunate but for those that are not please stop killing and stealing from each other and then blaming the "White Man" for not giving you an opportunity because its lots of opportunities out there but they are not gonna come knocking at your door.

Get real #1 ..it's a persons ambitions that determine where they live, not their skin color or their ancestory. Seems like Tulsa has a lot of 'birds' when ever something goes bad..if you listen carefully you can hear all the "me,me,me,me"..sounds like a bunch of baby birds chirpping.
