The Better Business Bureau Serving Eastern Oklahoma urged consumers Friday to choose companies accredited by the group for ice storm-related work.

Rick Brinkley, BBB president and CEO, said his office has been inundated with requests for information.

"Consumers specifically want the names of tree services, electricians, roofers and heating/air contractors," he said.

Residents can go online to www.tulsaworld.com/tulsabbb. Once at the BBB site, visitors should click on the link labeled "For Consumers" and then click on the link labeled "BBB Accredited Business Directory."

The site allows consumers to search on a single company, or look at lists of businesses in various categories. Consumers also can call the BBB at 492-1266.

"We realize that with the snow hitting over the weekend, even more consumers are going to need this information and we need to get them the names of businesses they can trust," Brinkley said.

"Consumers have got to understand that they cannot panic during this type of weather crisis. When someone panics, he or she greatly increases their chances of falling victim to scam artists. You should always do business with someone you know you can trust."
