More homes connected by AEP-PSO
By STAFF REPORTS
Published:

Last Modified: 12/18/2007 1:41 PM
About 20,000 AEP-PSO Tulsa-area customers still do not have power, ten days into a blackout caused by an ice storm.
Stan Whiteford, spokesman for the utility, said about half of those customers are not able to receive power because of damage to their meter or wiring on their homes, meaning the responsibility for repairs in not AEP-PSO's.
Overnight, about 4,400 more homes were restored to service.
At the height of the crisis, some 246,000 Tulsa-area customers were cut off from American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma service.

how is AEP notifying families with homes that need additional repair by an electrician? I had a company out last week and they indicated that the house was ready to be hooked back up. Yesterday, a blue ribbon was tied on my porch. My neighbors porch also has a blue ribbon. My neighbors meter has been torn off his house, and he has not repaired it. Does anybody know what these ribbons are for?

I don't have damage to either.
It's wonderful that I'm in the last 10,000 to not have power.

No damage here, and still no power either. PSO says tonight by 11pm. I'm not holding my breath.

I am at 22nd & Harvard and without power. There are four houses in a row with no power and the rest of my neighbors all have power. My neighbor across the street has a yard full of christmas lights and I am in the DARK!!!

AEP-PSO a.k.a. Almost Electric Power gives me a different story EVERY single day but still no power in North Tulsa at least not at my house. My immediate neighbor and the folks across the street ALL have power but not me! Today is the 9th day without power for us. I am frustrated and I have had enough of this.
How is a citizen to know if they have trouble or not w/their meters & such if the damage is not obvious? We are not all electricians or mechanically inclined. I think this is a hoax by AEP to cloud the real issues.
I wouldn't be completely surprised if they have manipulated the grids in some way so they could eventually try to recoup the money they SAY they are losing. Call me a skeptic but I'd say I could be closer to the truth than I realize.

Typical AEP/PSO response to blame the customer for their lack of power and not AEP/PSO's own incompetence. I live near Carnegie school and I have not seen any electric trucks working in my neighborhood today. I have checked my lines to my house as well as my meter they are still attached. 9 days still no power. AEP I am waiting...........

I can't believe the whining I'm hearing from people. We're supposed to be Okies, tough and resilient. How did our ancestors make it!? Where is the patience and gratitude? Things could be worse and is for some. No, I don't work for the power company and I am also still out of power. 8 days now. Get a grip.

Bury the power lines. We must pay for this, even is the cost is high. The tree huggers have tried to block any reasonable plan to prune trees. They should be told people and their health and warmth are far more important than trees.I had no power for eight days.

hey guys i got my power back last night, but a warning to all-- when they turned my power back on, a HUGE surge went through my house toasting all my electronics! everything from my alarm clock to tvs to computer to microwave to my heating and air unit! (fyi i keep everything on surge protectors but the surge was so strong it went through these) so be sure to disconnect everything before they turn you back on to be safe! good luck!

Don't Use Campbell Electric!
, (12/18/2007 12:42:35 PM)
My brother in-law was quoted $2,100 to repair his damaged meter right after the ice storm moved thru. He was desparate, they have a 3 yr old and a 6 mo. old baby, so he paid them half on his credit card. Campbell never came back to do the job, so my brother in-law got Airco to do it for $500. Campbell doesn't want to credit his account now, so he's disputing it with the credit card company. I told him to report Campbell Electric to the AG's office for price gouging. Don't Use Campbell Electric!!

Im sick of hearing about PSO's incompetentence when it is the homeowners own incompetence.
Repairs to various itesm on the house are the homeowners responsibility.
If you didnt already know that then you really should reconsider being a homeowner...
PSO is responsble for getting power to you once proper repairs that you are responsible for is done.
Btw, if they come out and find that you cant be hooked up, you are notified... hopefully you have the correct phone # on file with them... many never check to see if their own contact info is correct.
My own had a phone # from 8 years ago as a primary #, fortunately the backup # was my curent #.
You dont have to be knowledgable to actually see if conditions on your house is different than prestorm.
If you cant tell by sight that things are different on the meter or cables.. You really need to rethink owning a house.

#15 - there are scammers & ripoff'ers out there... unfortunately.
In my case the only electricians I called were ones with ad's in the yellow pages.
I ignored all calls that were not these.
I had 3 calls that were likely scammers.
One of which said he could guarantee all for $1000 (I did it legit for $250).

For me I will never ever buy or build a home where the lines are above ground.
ITs stupid in this day&age to have lines aboveground.
Btw, Its you people (citizens) who refuse to have lines underground.
You the citizen have in the past rejected efforts to go underground systemwide.

It is funny how almost any storm related story on the Tulsa World site is quickly overcome by three common comments: 1. complaints about PSO 2. complaints about people who complain about PSO 3. silly messages that "support" our electric workers (that resemble slogans for supporting the troops in Iraq).

Gripe, gripe, gripe. People just like to complain. Yes it has been inconvenient and costly, but I've got no complaints about the power outage. It gives you perspective on what really matters (hint: not the tv or the computer). While I wait with anticipation for it to come back on, I certainly won't be calling VVEC to ask when.

ANSWER TO RIBBON QUESTION:
.
Some of you may have blue or green ribbons attached to the front of your house. This was part of a community service project Sunday afternoon by Tulsa area volunteers and Tulsa Fire Department volunteers. The ribbons signify whether damage was done to your home's weatherhead or not. Weatherheads are the connecting boxes from the power lines to your home. The off-duty TFD volunteers made a master list of all homes that need weatherhead repair, but the ribbon helps these homes stand out among a bunch of addresses in the area.
.
If you have further questions about this project, there was a story in Monday's edition, or you can call the Mayor's Action Line (596-2100) or help line (211).

We live near downtown, we got our power back Sunday evening thanks to some worderful guys from South Carolina. I just had two members of the Tulsa Fire Department at my door. They were walking door-to-door checking every home to make sure people had power. Some homes couldn't be attached when the power was initially restorred, so this was very welcome. When I look at the number of customers who are still without power in Oklahoma City, I know that PSO and our city government doing a great job here! Thank you to all the men and women who are working so hard!!!

#20-I wonder how "supportive" you'd be if it were your loved one 1000 miles away from you and your family this close to Christmas (for the past 10 days), working a job that could kill them in an instant. Think about that before you criticize others for being supportive.
