ORU loses another regent
By ZIVA BRANSTETTER World Projects Editor

Last Modified: 12/18/2007 5:40 PM
ORU announced Tuesday another evangelist has resigned from its board of regents, and the board continued its work to split the university from its founding ministry.
In a statement released Tuesday, Oral Roberts University announced that Louisiana minister Jesse Duplantis had resigned his position on the board.
Duplantis said in a letter to the board: ''The demands of ministry have made it increasingly difficult to continue to effectively serve on the Board of Regents of ORU.''
One regent, evangelist Creflo Dollar, resigned from the board recently and another, evangelist Benny Hinn, lost his status as a voting member of the board.
Both had refused to respond to a U.S. Senate inquiry into lavish spending by evangelists.
There are now 22 voting members on the board, and 19 were present at Tuesday's meeting, ORU's statement says.
In the statement, Board Chairman George Pearsons said he has appointed a committee to oversee separation of ORU and Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association.
''The committee will analyze any overlap of the two entities, including financial, accounting, administrative, legal, physical and governance,'' the statement says.
Pearsons said he hopes most of the separation will conclude by the end of ORU's fiscal year, April 30, 2008.
The spiritual connection between the two entities will remain, Pearsons said. The board decided Tuesday to allow the Abundant Life prayer group, which is part of the evangelistic association, to remain in ORU's
prayer tower, he said.
''The prayer tower is at the heart of the campus. Prayer is and always has been at the center of this university,'' Pearsons said.
ORU also announced it had hired a consultant to aid in the search for a new president.
A search committee includes regents, administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and members of the community, ORU said.
Richard Roberts resigned as ORU's president Nov. 23 after three former professors filed a lawsuit.
The suit alleges that Roberts and his family misspent university and ministry money to support a lavish lifestyle.
Billy Joe Daugherty, the pastor of Victory Christian Center, has been the school's acting president during its search for a new president.
Regents are expected to meet with Yukon businessman Mart Green, whose family has promised a $70 million gift to ORU on certain conditions. Green's family founded the Hobby Lobby chain of craft stores.
Green has called for reforms in the university's business practices, greater transparency and changes to its board of regents following a months-long controversy.
He gave ORU $8 million in late November and said he planned a 90-day review period before granting the university the remaining $62 million.
ORU has refused to release the findings from an outside investigation of the schools finances but said reforms stemming from the investigation are in the works.
ORUs board has 22 business regents and 18 others who are spiritual regents, associate regents and regents emeritus. Those 18 regents do not have a vote in business and financial matters, according to ORU's bylaws.
The bylaws give Richard and Oral Roberts wide authority on spiritual matters, including the right to veto decisions by business regents on such matters.
Richard Roberts' wife, Lindsay Roberts, resigned as a spiritual regent of ORU following the lawsuit.
Following a regents meeting Nov. 27, Pearsons announced the university would take steps to split the ministry, Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association, from ORU.
Pearsons said then that Richard and Oral Roberts would not have any role in business decisions involving ORU.
Richard Roberts remains as CEO of the evangelistic association. Although the two are separate nonprofit entities, 14 of the 15 key officers and trustees of the evangelical association are also listed as key officers and trustees of ORU, records show.
The ministry spent most of its $12 million in revenue last fiscal year on its weekly television shows, direct mail and other outreach efforts.

Both Jerry Savelle and Jesse Duplantis are what I call "opening acts for Kenneth Copeland.

How can they separate ORU and OREA/ORM when the same folks are on the boards of both?

I think that some of these regents that are resigning, are realizing that they just don't have the time or inclination to put the time needed into being a regent at ORU, & that someone else may have a better committment to the school. Nothing more, nothing less.

or could it be that this is the next sign it is beginning to fold on itself?
-
creflo's spiritual father is kenneth.
and jesse and jerry are close friends who are close to kenneth who is dedicated to oral. not a good sign for the old guard.

i dont know about creflo and his coming issues.
but i think jesse's split is one with kenneth, it is more meaningful, i'm sure kc approved it, but still. its looks shakey to me. only time will tell. it had to be a very difficult decision for both men, jd and kc.

Oral taught these guys the 'seed faith' doctrine years ago. They now run their ministries just like Richard Roberts ran ORU. Seed Faith has morphed into selfish greed, justified by eligious doctrines. Autocratic to the max. Dollar, Hinn, DuPlantis... Copeland and Savelle could be next.

it just doesn't cry out the, 'stand and fight' mentality that you would think it might, especially from jesse.. definitely a slight change in direction of the wind. this thing is bigger and farther reaching than we can even know right now. mo.
if the bor members are beginning to cut and run, what does that say for the individuals in general? are you telling me, the only reason they became regents was for the benefits. i know this is silly, but how many more regents have kids that are or will be college age coming up? forgive the meaningless bantering.

I read an article on the internet that said M. Hickey had resigned from the BOR. It was before RR resigned.
I am a bit stunned at the cost of one year's tuition and expenses. Now lets see $30,000.00 x 4= $120,000.00
for a BA degree. That's a lot of money! How much does it cost to go to OSU?

What about God teaching it to them in His word. I don't think Oral was the originator of seeding. Just my humble opinion.

2 Corinthians 9:9-11 (Amplified Bible)
As it is written, He [the benevolent person] scatters abroad; He gives to the poor; His deeds of justice and goodness and kindness and benevolence will go on and endure forever! And [God] Who provides seed for the sower and bread for eating will also provide and multiply your [resources for] sowing and increase the fruits of your righteousness [which manifests itself in active goodness, kindness, and charity].Thus you will be enriched in all things and in every way, so that you can be generous, and [your generosity as it is] administered by us will bring forth thanksgiving to God.

dtaylor,
It's hard to tell. The BOR is now a place where work needs to be done and hard decisions made, not just good ol' boy greetings as it was in the past. I don't think GP is as fun a guy as RR.
All these guys are obvious targets for Grassley. If not already, then later. The less visibility they have outside their Ministry, the better.
They also know that their presence is probably in the way of ORU getting the other $62 million from the Greens.

I use the Amplified to clarify the scriptures. I, myself, only read the KJV when I am at home. I consider it a more accurate translation.

Gail,
I know AMP gets a bunch of bad press, but it reads like a translation. The Lockman Foundation certainly considers it a translation. This is what Lockman says about it:
.
The Amplified Bible is a translation that, by using synonyms and definitions, both explains and expands the meaning of words in the text by placing amplification in parentheses and brackets and after key words or phrases. This unique system of translation allows the reader to more completely grasp the meaning of the words as they were understood in the original languages.

To: qqq & CM: I realize some do consider it a translation, but there probably just as many that do not. I do use it for some clarifications, but I find a lot of people using it solely. JMO

dtaylor - the timing and the numbers of the BOR resignations/lost status are very tellings to me. It's like a stack of dominoes. It IS bigger and farther reaching than we can imagine.
I really hope we get to find out all the details of this debacle. I think ORU supporters need and deserve all the information, not some lame cover-up.

Now it is time for Hinn, Copeland, Jakes and others to "cut and run". It is time for them to stop clouding the young students minds. They should stop USING God.
