The city is looking for 100 volunteers to work with Tulsa firefighters on Wednesday to clear debris from power lines and weatherheads at homes struck by the ice storm.

The efforts will help PSO assess damage to homes and clear debris so electricians can make repairs to weatherheads and reconnect homes to the power lines.

Volunteers will meet at the parking lot of the Mabee Center, 81st Street and Lewis Avenue, at 8 a.m. Wednesday, where firefighters will organize them into teams and dispatch them to areas hardest hit by the storm.

#1: What kind of assistance does she need? Have you check into shelters or churches?

If your meter or weatherhead has been damaged and an electrician needs to repair it before you can receive power, call 1-866-789-8898 Operation Power Up! Hotline. A licensed electrician will be assigned to come repair it for you at no cost to you.

If you can tell by looking at this point that the meter or pipes are pulled out from the house, are laying on the ground, or any other immediate damage like that, please call in and get her scheduled for an electrician to come fix it for her at no charge to her - the city is covering it through this program.

I hate to sound this way...I really feel for the lady mentioned in #1...let me know if I can help, but.....why is the mayor asking for volunteers? Does everyone realize that the federal money for disaster assistance goes to the city to spend as they see fit? Is anyone holding Mayor Taylor accountable? I really doubt it!

Volunteers are special folk and their hearts must pump blood differently through the brain. Blessings on each one. I could write you a book on the joy of what volunteering does in bringing Hope to others.
