A man was shot in the leg Thursday after exchanging gunfire with someone who apparently was trying to rob his brother.

The man who was shot went to a hospital, but his injury was not life-threatening, Officer Leland Ashley said.

The shots were fired just before 11 a.m. after a man who was fixing a flat tire outside his home in the area of 5900 E. 30th St. was approached by two men, one of whom pointed a gun at his back, Ashley said. He started yelling at the men, and his cousin and his brother -- who was armed with a gun -- came outside the house to help him.

Shots were exchanged, and the man's brother was shot in the leg, Ashley said. The assailants then ran away.

Police are searching for the two men, whose descriptions were not available. They also are continuing to investigate who fired the first shots and how many shots were fired.

Del City man dies in turnpike chain-reaction crash

One person died in a multivehicle accident that shut down part of the Turner Turnpike in Oklahoma County for nearly three hours Thursday morning. Harold Wayne Odell, 56, of Del City was pronounced dead at the scene about six miles east of Interstate 35, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The series of crashes began just before 7 a.m. when Odell's 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, which was eastbound on the highway, went out of control and was struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer rig. Both vehicles then went over a median barrier and into the turnpike's

westbound lanes, where the Lumina struck a 2007 Mazda sedan, troopers said.

A westbound 1996 Dodge pickup, driven by David Brinkley, 24, of Henryetta, was struck by debris from the concrete barrier wall, the OHP reported. Brinkley and the truck driver, Daniel Arthur Lewis, 51, of Bethany, reportedly were not injured.

Linda D. Blanton, 54, of Chandler, the driver of the Mazda, was flown to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City with internal and external injuries. Her passenger, Breana Miller, 30, also of Chandler, was treated at the hospital and released, troopers said.

Everyone involved except Odell had been wearing a seat belt, the OHP reported.

While the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed, westbound traffic was diverted off the turnpike at Chandler and eastbound traffic was narrowed to one lane. All lanes of traffic were reopened by 10:15 a.m., the OHP reported.

Police: Woman steals boyfriend's bail from city desk

Police are looking for a woman who is accused of raising $450 bail for her boyfriend by stealing money off the desk of the Wagoner city treasurer.

Carla Turner, 37, and Roy Wilson, 39, disappeared after Turner bonded Wilson out of jail, authorities said.

Authorities said Turner took $17,000 in checks and cash off the treasurer's desk between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Police recovered a bank bag, including about $14,000 in checks, from a mail drop across from City Hall.

Mayor James Jennings said about $200 in cash, in deposit books that weren't opened, also was recovered.

Wilson had been in jail for fighting.

Why was the comment section removed on the first article that came out on the top brief above? Could it be that the TW and 1 or 2 big mouthed complainers don't like people asking too many questions about suspect descriptions in crimes like this one? Yes, I believe that is the case. There has been a rash of these robbery-shootings in mid-town the past several months and when it was pointed out that the perpetrators are always black a couple of crybaby squawkers started shouting about people "who bring race into these things". Of course, shortly after that the comments all disappeared. The truth of the matter is, nobody is "bringing race" into anything - its already there. Blacks, rather black males age 17 - 26 (1.3% of the US population) are committing about 60% of ALL violent crime in America. If anyone doesn't see a problem there that needs addressing I have some delta swamp land to sell you. If it were young whites who were causing this sort of problem and mayhem to society what do you think the media reaction would be? Bringing race into it indeed. Those self-hating marxist imbeciles ought to be ashamed.
