ORU issues

For more:
Read the latest ORU stories, view the lawsuit and other documents and watch slide shows and video.
Here is a look at key issues in the Oral Roberts University controversy:
Finances
: During the past 14 years, ORU has reported only two years when revenues outpaced expenses. During that time, former President Richard Roberts repeatedly claimed the university was reducing its debt and gaining financial strength. ORU’s current debt is $52 million. An accrediting body and an independent audit have recommended reforms, which ORU’s board of regents claims are under way.
Ministry vs. university
: For years, operations of ORU and its ministry arm, the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association, have been intertwined. Regents say they are working to separate the two entities, actions the IRS and the independent audit have recommended. Records show 14 of 15 key trustees oversee both entities.
Politics
: A key claim of a lawsuit by three former ORU professors involves political activity.
The suit claims Richard Roberts, then ORU’s president, ordered students in ORU’s government program to work in the mayoral campaign of Randi Miller.
Nonprofit entities are barred from such activity and ORU was investigated by the IRS.
Transparency
: Businessman Mart Green has promised ORU a $62 million gift if it reforms its practices, including providing more information to faculty, students and the public about its operation. Green has proposed that ORU’s regents share power to make important decisions with faculty, staff and others. Meanwhile, ORU has refused to release numerous records, including the independent investigative report and letters from the IRS.

my cousin lives about 10 houses away from R & L house. She said she knows someone who services there and he told her that Lindsay is mean and hateful to him and the help working there. What a Christian example of walking in love. She is very demanding and forceful from what he told her.

Something Positive And Uplifting:
Jesus came and died to set the captives free. Even now, scales are beginning to fall from people's eyes, and they are seeing Truth. Though they are, and will be, in sorrow and grief discovering the apostacy they have partaken in, soon that sorrow will become joy, knowing they have escaped the very pits of hell itself! More and more will be delivered and set free from the heresy and lying signs and wonders movement that has invaded the church.. Those who are truly called and chosen are waking up as if from a deep sleep, a nightmare.. They are being set free from the deception and delusion, i.e. witchcraft, that has been allowed to infect their very souls. God is here, and is bringing His children out of the hands of the wicked... the rest of you will follow these men straight into acceptance of the lawless one foretold to rise. But for those who's heart is only towards God, who want nothing more, we will escape. The rest will be chasing the delusion, the signs and wonders.. Time is running out.... History is barreling to it's conclusion.
Now judgement has come to the pulpits, next it will hit the pews. I'm already cleaning my house, have been for some time now. One thing I do know... if your preacher is telling you we are about to enter into the most supernaturally powerful time christianity has ever seen, or some such jargon... you better run like the wind! Get out of there! No signs will save you, only FAITH in the Word!
You are about to see God seemingly remove His hand of protection and presence off of us. You will cry out and not see Him, this is the season we are entering. My prayer is that even when I don't see Him or feel Him, that I will have enough Faith to still believe. This is the test.... God is sifting the hearts and souls of men. I know He's real, He doesn't have to give me a thing, I have His Word! Heck, that's all I need! Whatever comes, I'm determined to finish my race! Please say an honest prayer and ask God to reveal the hearts of the men you look to to lead you and teach you, the ones your hearts are so open towards to recieve from, and also to reveal any wrong doctrine you may have recieved, then listen to what God tells you. It's okay to mess up and get off the path, we all do it. What's not okay is knowing the truth, and then denying it to keep following a lie. Yes, it is hard to admit you were wrong, but it's something you just have to go through, repent and also forgive yourself. I still work on that one lol
For those who defect out, there are many great resources and groups out here for you, to help you through the pain and get you through to the other side.
Nothing will stop what's to come... those who think they can fight it are very blind and have been lied to, and are lying to others.

Rev Billy and Paula Lee
, Avenue of Blessings, Tulsa (12/26/2007 11:15:41 AM)
I and the Board of Regents of ORU would like to thank all of our partners and friends who have sown into our ministries this year during 2007, the year of fulfillment.
May your dreams come true, may all you’ve asked for come to pass, and may your life be fulfilled to the fullest.
.
I also want to thank those of you in particular who sowed your lucky $77 offering into our ministry in 2007, the year of fulfillment, completion, overflow, and blessing. Remember, you’ve sown into good ground, and you can expect a good harvest of blessings, increase, and favor from the seed that you’ve sown.
.
Don’t forget, be sure to sow your $88 offering at the first of the New Year; remember, 8 is the number of new beginnings, and 2008 is the year of new beginnings, favor,
promotion, and blessing.
.
Send your final 2007 offering today to seal your favor, fulfillment, completion, overflow,
and blessing for the year 2007; otherwise, you might not get it and your breakthrough might not happen.
.
Also, if you send your lucky $88 offering at 8:08am on the first of year, I want to remind you that your setting yourself up and positioning yourself for a *double* impact of blessing, favor, and promotion in the year of new beginnings. Let’s go for the double in 2008! Together we can do it!
.
And for those of you who send an offering of at least $888, in combination with your first fruits offering for 2008, you’ll receive our special “New Beginnings” scripture- blessing- ark- of- the- covenant replica with scripture verses you can confess each day as you pray over your promotion and increase in order to seal your New Beginnings Blessings.
.
Maybe you’ve been through some things in the past; maybe you’ve been through some tough times. I understand. I’ve been there. I know how you feel. But I want to tell you today, that this upcoming year is the year of New Beginnings, the year of blessing and favor, the year that will begin a new season and a new cycle of promotion and increase for you in your life, your family, your finances, your job, your health, and your relationships.
.
And don't forget to send your special Valentine's offering on Feb 14th to secure your blessings with your special someone.
.
Don't forget in March, sow your special St Patty's day offering and watch how favor comes upon you and your family.
.
Most importantly, sow your extra sacrificial Easter offering in April; this is perhaps one of the greatest offerings you can give during the first half of 2008. Why? Because when you sow into the resurrection you are declaring that you as his chosen child will experience favor, blessing, anointing and empowerment into your life and a resurrection of those things which are needed in your life. A resurrection of family, finance, health, and relationship issues that will bring the anointing, favor, and increase to you and your loved ones.
.
So send your final year end offering of $77 today, and don’t forget to send your $888 offering at 8:08am on the 1st of the year, and be blessed as you watch your blessings of favor, increase, and promotion take place in the year of New Beginnings!
.
And until then, may you be blessed with the joy and peace of the blessings of the season of the holly days, and may the greetings of the season be yours as you are blessed in abundance. Holli Happy Days!

-------------
The only way to prevent the BOR from tossing Green and removing ORU's last, real chance for renovation and recovery is to prepare a class-action lawsuit against the BOR and individuals --- and their ministries ( if legally permitted ) -- on grounds of breach of fiduciary duty.
--------------
--and call a news conference with TW , with copies of the proposed lawsuit, announcing it WILL be filed if the BOR rejects Green's offer.
-----------
-- and asking for an injuntion to prevent any alternative the BOR chooses to take effect until the case for Green
is heard.
----------
I'm not an attorney and don't pretend to know the legal niceties, but strategically, something like this should be do-able and is about the only thing to stop them from
deep-sixing Green and ORU for their oan selfish reasons.
-------------
How on earth could any "creative financing" be better than outright elimination of debt?
--------------
In purely financial terma slone --- putting aside any question of who is "best" suited ---should be compelling, easy-to- understand grounds for why Mart Green is best.
--------
If the argument sticks to that and avoids he debatable "who's best for ORU" stuff, it would be far easier for a judge to understand.
---------
That would force the BOR / Mckoen forces to "cash-match" Green to stay in the game, and since they;'re talking about "creative financing," I'm betting they can't match Green's cash.
---------------
But, it;s really up to those in a position to do so,--- alumni, others -- to organize and get something moving while there's still time.
People like Bill from Brownwood, alum and atty.
----
Down the drain with Green will be ORU's last and best chance to make it.

BOR Update:
"GREEN-LIKE" CHANGES
'GREEN-LIKE" Financial package
WITHOUT THE 'UNCERTAINTY' OF Green
What I'm hearing confirms what
"Go, Titans, Go Green Country"
has posted.
The BOR is split, but strongly coming out in favor of a hodge-podge that will be "sold" as "Green-like changes, with a Green-like package of financing, but without the 'unknown' of Green.
--"Unknown" meaning -- he wants a wholesale cleaning of the BOR.
--They do not want that.
This will be "sold", pushed hard, as "reformist" when it is in reality more of the same.
The BOR faction backing this is the "stand-pat" faction which knows they'd be swept out in any meaningful changes.
--They fear any major changes would be seen as an indictment of their previous stewardship as members of the BOR, with possible legal consequence down the line
-- in either existing, or future, lawsuits.
In effect, they're covering their posteriors.
They also represent the thinking of RR, who seems to be hoping for an on-going, non-administrative tv "face of ORU" role under the new regime.
(Which would justify socking ORU with some of his TV expenses.)
There is a belief this can be sold to alumni and donors as a reformist "new day' for ORU

how in the world did these smart, educated, experienced 'regents' fall asleep in the board room and let a university fall into 50 million dollars worth of debt is beyond me.... what were they afraid of ...
i wish to God some study would be conducted to detirmine the contributing factors that led to such irresponsibility....and more studies to detirmine how such folks could maintain their images of respectability in light of certain embarrassment....
even these preachers that left the board know that 'distance' from scandal means safety... scam artist televangelists didn't get to the top of the game by not knowing how to perfect the con....

tired of all the gossip
, tulsa (12/30/2007 9:31:53 AM)
By definition, GOSSIP = idle talk or rumor, esp. about the personal or private affairs of others
Question: "What does the Bible say about gossip?"
Answer: First and foremost, God considered gossip to be such a serious matter that He included the avoidance of it as one of the Ten Commandments. "Thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Exodus 20). When you repeat something you heard from someone else, or share a story where you're not 100% certain the facts are correct, or even share information about another person that will only bring them harm and not good, you are bearing false witness against them. Since the second greatest commandment is "Love your neighbor as yourself," you would be breaking that one as well by gossiping. Would you gossip about yourself to others? If not, then why commit that act against your neighbor?
In the book of Romans, Paul reveals the sinful natures and lawlessness of mankind, stating how God was pouring out His wrath upon those who were rejecting His laws. Because they had turned away from God's instruction and guidance, He gave them over to their sinful natures. "They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them" (Romans 1:29b-32). God still does the same today. Many reject Him and His word, so He allows them to be ruled by their sinful nature and depraved minds.....
(to read the rest of the article, google "got questions + gossip + bible"
The Bible is clear that gossip is wrong. All the "he said that she said that she is..." is wrong even if there is some truth in the gossip. If you have never spoken to someone and they have never been rude or mean to you, then you cannot state as fact that someone is mean or rude or anything else. Gossip is a sin just like lying and cheating and being hateful...it all separates us from God. Remember that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...we all need to be redeemed and forgiven.

I do not believe in conforming to a set of principles that have been purposefully maligned for the benefit of those enforcing the principles.....
Let me rephrase...i am expressing my outrage....my outrage is based on my personal expectations of what I feel Christian leadership should model to the world....for me to be quiet about it equates to my acceptance of it.... i care enough about it to let it disturb me....i am still formulating a constructive means by which to express my outrage
calling my outrage or discussion "gossip" has no effect on me.....similar if someone calls my outrage or discussion "judgement"...my ourtage and discussion has no guilt or shame in it, therefore it can not be silenced as if my conscience would object...
I am not a dog....I am not a "good little christian".... I am not a lowly human being who has no right to express ....
for too many years I was a Christian who swallowed everything that was forced down my throat from the pulpit....it is much better for me if I speak up....because I believe what I say makes sense....
Once I hear other people calling for radical investigation, radical honest (what a concept) radical transparency, then I won't have to say anything....then I will shut up
Let's just say most of my non-christian friends tease me about my faith....like I'm some kind of simpleton....well, having stuff like ORU scandal on the news just gives them justification...Why should I be embarrassed about God because some fool got caught manipulting the masses in the name of Jesus....
Gossip ...NO.......
Demand for accountability......YES

To: Jack Evans.
I believe your analysis is missing a few key points. McKoen’s plans is a financial restructuring that among many other things shifts Citiplex and its associated debt into a separate entity to shield the University from debt load. This is solid financial advice and I would be surprised if Mart Greens proposal doesn’t include the same thing.
I also would be surprised if Green’s proposal (which hasn’t been submitted) includes paying off all the debt. Instead, it will likely be a combination of pumping up the endowment, shifting debt off the balance sheet like McKeon proposes and covering more immediate operating expenses. I don’t know why so many people on this blog are so freaked out about the BOR turning down Green – Green has not yet submitted a plan to turn down and although everyone else on here is convinced the BOR is self-serving and aiming to destroy the University your speculations are absurd. How can anyone propose a class action to force the BOR to take Greens money when you don’t know what Green is proposing? What if he proposes something that is bad for the University? Nobody has seen the proposal so there is no reason to say it’s good or bad.
Over the years a lot of Board members have resigned or been pushed out because either they wouldn’t rubber stamp the Roberts or they asked for more information then the Roberts would hand out - like a University P&L. I admire the board members that walked away, but I also have a lot of respect for SOME of the members that have stuck it out and tried to help the University in more settle ways. I am particularly proud of our few ALUMNI board members, the guy from England and the new chairman - they are all doing an awesome job turning the ship around. In any organizational crises you can always spot the rats because they flee the singing ship (note the former board members). I don’t think any of the changes that are underway would have been possible if MH was still chairwomen.

Additionally, I don’t know why people keep talking about the university not making it. Between land, buildings, citiplex and the tv stations the univeristy assets have to be worth well north of $200M. The only way $50M in debt would sink it is if an idiot was in charge and that has been resolved.

Rev Billy and Paula Lee, Avenue of Blessings, Tulsa -- Who are you to guarantee specific returns on "Lucky" $77/88 offerings? There's no magic number for blessing, like your $888 offering at 8:08 AM for a doubly-blessed return portion, or whatever. Giving to further the Kingdom of God is not like buying a holy scratch-off. You don't give financially to pay God off for that "special someone." You don't give for a "St. Patty's Day" blessing. An Easter offering is not to "prove" that you trust God.
People give because it's a blessing to give. People give because God asks it of them. People give because of the burden on their heart and the eyes of their understanding being enlightened. Shame on you for attempting to manipulate. Shame, shame on you.
