Sources: Tulsa will play Arkansas in football in 2008
By Eric Bailey, World Sports Writer

Tulsa will play at Arkansas during the 2008 football season, sources said on Friday afternoon. The game is scheduled for Nov. 1 in Fayetteville.
The Golden Hurricane has completed its nonconference schedule for the upcoming year. Tulsa opens at North Texas on Sept. 6 before playing home games against New Mexico (Sept. 20) and Central Arkansas (Sept. 27) in the renovated Chapman Stadium.
Arkansas will replace Texas Tech on the TU football schedule. Army was supposed to return a home-and-home game to Tulsa, but Army canceled its return trip and paid Tulsa a buy-out fee to cancel the contract. TU officials didn't release the amount Army paid.
The TU-Arkansas game will reunite Gus Malzahn and the Razorbacks. Malzahn spent one season as the Hogs offensive coordinator before leaving to take the same position at TU in 2007. His Golden Hurricane offense led the nation in total offense.
Arkansas will be led by coach Bobby Petrino, who will be in his first season at the school after taking over for Houston Nutt.
It will be the 71st meeting between the schools, and the first since 2003. Arkansas leads the series 51-16-3.
Tulsa's 2008 football schedule
Sept. 6 – At North Texas
Sept. 20 – New Mexico
Sept. 27 – Central Arkansas
Nov. 1 – At Arkansas
Conference USA opponents
Home – Central Florida, Rice, Tulane, UTEP
Away – UAB, Houston, SMU, Marshall
NOTE: Conference game dates haven't been released.

Arkansas could be missing its 2 best players if they both decide to go pro. McFadden and P. Jones. Aslong as TU can get a good replacement from Smith, and McFadden, and Jones both go, then that could be a game TU could defiantly win. Arkansas isnt having a top recruiting class this year, Missouri is taking all there recruits.

Katana, What recruits are Missouri taking? I haven't heard of Mizzou taking a single UA recruit. You need to check UA's commit list again.

Broyles told us fans that his "experts" told him Gus's offense won't work and then said during the Cotton Bowl the spread is the future I guess TU setting all kinds of records changed his mind. I want all the Nutt huggers to finally shut up when Malzahn lays it on Arkansas bad defense. You can get Pat Jones, Reggie Herring, and Keith Burns to all coordinate that defense and Gus will tear them a new one. I love the Hogs but hate, absolutely HATE all the Gus bashers and Nutt lovers. I hope the people like Pat Jones who were against Gus at Arkansas and for Nutt and crew will finally shut up.

Tulsa was obviously afraid of getting blown out by Texas Tech. What cowards to back out of their commitment to play Tech. Hope Arkansas rips Tulsa a new one for this move.

And sorry Tulsa.. No shot at a win. And we're having just about a good recruiting class as anyone..
Go Hogs!

Hey Petrino lover, if you're counting on your incoming recruiting class class to win this game for you, you're screwed. If none of your upperclassmen can get it done what makes you think these high schoolers are going to be any better. (And yes, I know Tulsa had significant contributions from freshmen this year.)

It's hilarious to see those five TU fans bash the Hogs. Unfortunately that's pretty much the entire TU fan base for most seasons.

Tulsa, the powerhouse of C-USA.
What a laugh.
There isn't one player on Tulsa's roster who would win a starting job at Arkansas. Arkansas' scout team players could win starting jobs at every position on Tulsa's team. Malzahn is a genius, and his offense will make the game interesting. But don't kid yourselves.
Arkansas may not have top 10 recruiting classes every year, but their athletes are SEC caliber. Tulsa's are NOT. And Mizzou is not, nor will they, steal a single recruit from Arkansas.
This should be an embarrassing beat down for Tulsa. And everyone will expect it to be. Arkansas is supposed to win, so they have everything to lose. That's why Tulsa is playing at Fayetteville and UA will probably NEVER go to Tulsa. Arkansas doesn't ever go to ULM or LA Tech, or Troy. No big-time teams do home-and-home series with lower-tier competition.
Besides, UA has home-and-home series with Texas starting next season, and aTm in 2009. This UA-Tulsa matchup is just to fill a hole in both teams' schedules.
I bet RRS is packed, though. I know I will be there.

Hey get real. Little full of yourself aren't you? TU shouldn't schedule anyone not willing to play in Tulsa. As for your comment about "no big-time teams do home and home with lower tier competition...I suggest you do a little research because actually MANY do. OU-TU is one example. It IS to fill a hole in the schedule however but TU should have found someone willing to play in Tulsa. I believe that up until this Arkansas game, all TU opponents have a home and home agreement. Army being the latest exception.

Uh, Get Real...
I guess you are saying that OU isn't a "big-time team" since they did a home & home (well, 2-1, but they still came to Tulsa)? Try smoking a pig instead of something else next time.

OU Homer writers here can only report negatives about the Hogs. When the TW was class and competing with the Tulsa Trib we got good coverage. No question that the SEC is Bigs and makes the lack of coverage even comical. TU is develping as much as a mid-power can become a power. The big question for the Hogs is how quickly Petrino can convey his system and get a quality quarterback. Certainly the Hogs could have used a quality player and individual in QB Paul Smith.

Jim from Lubbock, Lawless is long gone. Hopefully there will be more than "sources say" tomorrow to clear things up. On this one, I hope Bailey got it way wrong because if not, TU's integrity just took a huge shot and will make scheduling OOC even more difficult.

Umm..Arkansas fans, mainly Chris from San Diego, maybe you should re-check your recruits. In most rankings your not even in the top 25 recruiting classes. Rivals has your 08 class as 22, and some of your commitments (Marcal Robinson, have changed from a commitment to a soft verbal, witch means he can change his mind) there are a few other previous commitments who had backed out, when they heard of the new situation, with the staff, and returning players.
Also, how can you say that Missouri/ BIG 12 recruits cant match up with Arkansas/SEC recruits when Missouri beat you guys rather easily 38 to 7. Face it UA fans, you guys got a few good lucky recruits (McFadden, and Jones who was from Tulsa) and had two good seasons. Now you'll go back to being the bottom feeder of the SEC. You have the 7th best class in the SEC behind LSU, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, S.C., I cant wait til see next years UA team. You might beat TU, but you'll have a crappy season.

Always get a kick out of TU fans who whine about Arkansas refusing to play in Tulsa. There are so many Arkansas fans in Tulsa and there so few actual TU fans, that a game between the two at Skelly would be like a Razorback home game. Might as well play it in front of 75,000 instead of 40,000. Everyone makes more money and Arkansas wins anyway.

Arkansas plays Utah State on November 1st. Is the Tulsa game a day-night doubleheader? Get your facts straight. Also, Missouri has not taken ONE of Arkansas' commitments, the guy that said "Missouri is taking all there (their) recruits" is lying.

It cracks me up how full of themselves Arkansas fans are.
Arkansas will not play a home and home out of conference because they think they are above it. It's not like they win national championships EVER, or even the conference on a regular basis. Yet still the fans think they are a top program.
Sorry, but Arkansas is not. And honestly, I don't see them becoming one any time soon.

I can't believe that Tulsa will also give up a home game with Tech scheduled for 2009. I'm sure Arkansas won't come.
