Read the final version of the Green family's proposal.

The Oral Roberts University board of regents voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the final proposal and donation from the Green family, ORU announced Wednesday.

A new board of trustees will become ORU's governing body in seven days, when ORU files its new bylaws and articles of incorporation with the secretary of state, according to a press release.

The deal, which includes a $62 million donation, is still largely contingent "on whether the university can settle outstanding litigation," the press release said.

Three former professors filed a lawsuit in October, claiming wrongful termination. Two of those professors, Tim and Paulita Brooker, are continuing with that lawsuit; John Swails settled his portion of the case and was rehired by ORU.

Two students and a former employee also have sued ORU and its officers.

ORU spokesman Jeremy Burton did not have any information on what is happening in the cases.

Last week, Cornell Cross, one of the students suing ORU, said he expected to work toward a settlement.

ORU officials praised the agreement between the university and the Greens, according the the press release.

A SETTLEMENT?, (1/23/2008 1:29:55 PM)
Cornell Cross expects a settlement?! That case should be thrown out of court by the judge! If they settle with him, it won't be for much, then Richardson gets his 1/3. I hope Cross enjoys his 666.66, because that's all that will be left of his settlement.

Rumor has it that RR got a "very large" severence package to leave. Now, that stinks if true because he has already had access to more money than he should have.

What are the chances of the name of the school being changed?
IMO it needs to be done.
What are the chances of RR & LR and family being moved off the compound? I'm not familiar with the layout, but IMO
it needs to be done.

If they even consider changing the name of ORU, then it needs to be closed, because it wouldn't be ORU anymore.

1) change the name 2) get rid of those stupid looking hands. 3) kick RR & LR to the curb in a hurry. They created all this mess, they need to be homeless, hurting and begging for a change.

Great step in the right direction - best wishes to all.
Unfortunately, under richards leadership the university has suffered severely and it will take many, many years to restore its reputation.

#2 That is all it is just rumor other words it is not true. Happy! #5 It is not a compound I can show you a real one if you like but where they live is not a compound and also it has been proven that the house that RR lives in is privately owned, that ORU does not own it but leases/rents it for university use. So by law they can not make RR leave only the rightful owners can. I don't understand the legal stuff behind it, but it has been proven in legal papers that ORU does not own all of the houses and that even includes the one RR is in they are just leasing the houses and land, if I understood the legal wording. And yes I know what was printed in documents and newspaper reports but after all of that was written and after the court appearance and before the judge put the gag order in place that was one of the things that was corrected. Even though it was not made public, I think that was because after that the gag order was put in place.

#6 It has already been said that they are not changing the name, so get over it. They are not getting rid of the hands and no they are not stupid they stand for something special (God & prayer). RR & LR did not creat this mess this mess was created long before RR took over as President grow up. Also they are hurting and no they don't need to be out begging, apparently you have never been homeless unfortunately I have and no one should be homeless and begging. No one should beg for anything and that is not the way God's love is.

Rock on ORU! Time to move forward, for students and staff alike. That's what ORU is all about, it's an educational facility. Thank you God for intervening and making provision for students and alumni to fulfill the call on thier lives.

Thank you to the Green's, Thank you to BJD for stepping in a very uncomfotable spot and seeing it through. Thank you to those who have had to endure the wrath of bringing the changes necessary. It's spring time coming, with new life and new hope.

ORU faculty, students, and BOT have my best wishes to overcome the legacy that they did not perpetuate. The unanswered questions will eventually be addressed in "book deals" and court papers as interest in this "ongoing saga" continues. Let's all hope that the university is not going to have to continue to carry the additional "baggage" that these reports contain. Whatever happened was due to individuals entrusted with a stewardship severely flawed!

Looks like after all these years Oral Roberts got the millions. Remember years ago when he said "GOD would take him home to heaven if he didn't get it" Now that ORU has it they can all go somewhere but I don't think it will be Heaven.

I got dinged b/c I posted this info earlier. So, the first 7-day period is up on January 29th and the second 7-day wait will be up on February 5th. And the second 7-day period is dependent upon the lawsuits being settled. Very interesting.

OR dies they will change the name unless it is in the Articles of Incorporation in such a manner that it can never be overridden.

A couple of points. If true that ORU does not own the houses in the "quasi" compound I can almost guarantee that they did pay for them. There is a sweat deal in there somewhere for the occupants. In line with this, the $6.5 million Beverly Hills ORU home was not "legally owned" by ORU and, according to reports, the owner was listed in California records as a Tulsa attorney. ORU did, however, pay for the home. BTW - this home was purchased when the COF was going down the tubes. Nothing like breaking out the champagne while letting about 750 employees go down the tubes. But, that was standard operating procedure at the time.

I see no reason for the name of the university to be changed, and would be suprised if it was.

I'll personally be very disappointed if all the lawsuits are settled and the general public finds out almost nothing about whether or not the original accusations were true or not.

However, I will now add some pro-Oral Roberts comments because I consider myself "fair and balanced," although sometimes "out in space" as my no-name friend from other articles has noticed.

Oral Roberts did convince the ORU Board of Regents to take $6.5 million out of the Endowment fund and buy and remodel a luxury home for him in California.

However, when Oral was still doing crusades, there was a "love offering for Brother Roberts" on the last day of multi-day crusade, and insiders claim that Oral got over $1 million in personal income for at least three years straight. It might actually have been a loophole at that time that he didn't have to declare it as income either, it might have been tax-free.

Anyway, at a later date, when he became President or Chancellor of ORU, he settled for an initial annual salary of $15,000 and put 1/2 of his personal wealth in trust for his children and the other 1/2 into the ORU Endowment fund.

So although it still wasn't completely kosher, what he took out of the ORU Endowment fund for his California luxury home was, to a large extent, money he himself had put in years before.

This doesn't smell as bad as if he had just taken out. I can't say I'm thrilled with it, but it is better than what I originally thought.

I learned this little tidbit in the 5th book I have read on this topic since all this started, "Oral, A Warm Portrait of a Man of God," by Wayne A. Robinson, a one-time ORA/ORU insider. (The others were, "Ashes to Gold," by Patti Roberts, "Give Me that Prime Time Religion," by Jerry Sholes, "Oral Roberts, An American Life," by David E. Harrell, Jr., and the novel, "Spellbinders" by Harold Robbins, which was not specifically about Oral only, but about TV Evangelism in general.

START OFF WITH TRANSPARENCY

The major terms of the new agreement should be published.

Why published? This is not a court settlement, nor is there any grounds for keeping it sealed.

The "new" ORU can start of on the right footing by the BOT publishing the main points of the agreement.

What were the financial terms with the Roberts?

Is there any deal to suppress evidence or illegal, actionable wrongdoing, if such is found on the part of previous leadership and admin?

(In other words, is "a cover-up deal," part of the agreement?)

Let's face it. This is a transfer of authority from a highly-corrupt, secretive, wastrel, free-spending, loose-with-the-truth regime

What promises id the new BOT have to make to get them to turn loose?

Let the BOT of the "new" ORU keep their promises of transparency by publishing an outline of the agreement.

This would be a good way to put the past behind.

To not do so would be to keep speculation alive about what kind of pay-off the Roberts received, and if it include an agreement to not disclose actionable illegal acts that might be uncovered once the new ORU has access to records?

Everyone wants this over. Such an openness would bring closure to this sordid affair.

The failure to address these important issues will only continue the cloud.

Get it out in the open ORU, and move on to new things.

Guys, read the article! It says that ORU has accepted the terms and conditions and will accept the money, but the money is still contingent upon whether or not the lawsuits can be settled. I guess we just have to wait and see who settles and who doesn't.

You know what? The bible says,"vengenance is mine saith the Lord, I will repay". In God's perfect timing things that were done in secret will become known (LR's affairs). It looks like RR and LR got away with it. They only appear to have gotten away with it by the world's standards. They are getting away with nothing according to God's standards. What goes around comes around and it will in this case also.
