WASHINGTON -- Oklahoma Congresswoman Mary Fallin announced on Thursday her support and co-sponsorship of the Fence by Date Certain Act.

The bill, HR 4987, requires more than 700 miles of double-layered fence to be built along border locations in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, according to a press release. It also ensures that sufficient funds are required for the fence and mandates its completion by June 30, 2009.

Fallin's support of the bill was announced shortly after she cosigned a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, outlining her concern over the slow pace of border fence construction.

“The endless flow of illegal immigrants across our southern border is a threat to our national security, our economy and our culture,” Fallin said in a statement. “The American people understand this, even if our leaders in Congress do not.

“Every year voters in Oklahoma and all across the country ask the government to secure our borders, and every year they are let down by a federal bureaucracy that seems unwilling to act. The solution to illegal immigration is complex, but the need for physical barriers is clear.

“The Fence by Date Certain Act will prohibit the kind of legislative tricks and bureaucratic foot dragging that we have seen in the past. By June 30, 2009, a fence should be in place along our southern border.”

Thank you Rep. Fallin. I wish more on your side of the aisle w/b on the correct side of this issue; especially considering yet another murder of a Border Patrol Agent just this past weekend in AZ. The specifics in that case illustrated that a physical barrier may have prevented the agent's death. That brings the total # of BP agents killed up to 16 since 2000.

Ok AM no border fence tax. So why don't you offer to go down to the border and help build the fence? That would cut back on the costs so the government would not need a tax increase to pay for it.

Thank You Rep. Fallin. We've been waiting and waiting for this fence to be built - the double-layered fence that we have been promised. We Want The Fence Now! Thank You for listening to and representing the majority of the American Citizens. If only we had more elected officials like you in each state; as you may know, we don't have them representing us in Arizona.

20 years after the Berlin Wall, will german politicians need to come over here and tell us to to "Tear Down This Wall!"?

Thank you so much for sticking up for this great country and demanding this fence be built. We need more folks like you who see that this country is on the way down fast. BUILD THE FENCE!

Unfortunately a fence will never work, the illegals will just continue tearing holes in it. BUT: if you declare "open season" along the border and offer a $1.00 per head bounty you won't have to pay for a fence built, and they'll stop coming.

Rep. Fallin is another example of why we need term limits in Congress. She is listening to the people and appears to want what is best for the country. "Established" politicians want what is best for them- through lobbyists- that is why Kennedy, McCain, Bush, Clinton, Lindsay Graham, Pelosi, Reid and others are ignoring the people and want amnesty for illegal aliens and essentially open borders for America

I don't know if we will ever have open borders #10. You don't hear Canada wanting that. In fact, they don't due to the socialized medicine. They tax the very things that the medicine will be needed for later in life. If you don't have the vice, you won't be paying the tax. Healthcare is just one reason Canada doesn't want open borders. Healthcare for our citizens should also be why we don't want open borders with Mexico.

let's hope you are correct #11- open borders are and would be a catastrophe for us.

The same lame-brained politicians I named in #10 seem to want a European Union type situation for the Americas. I hope the Canadians are too smart for that- but I fear our politicians would be sucked right into it- with the US footing the bill for every under-developed country which joined the "union"

Why did this state vote her in? Agree with #10. Why does't Rep Fallin introduce the illegal bill now in effect in Oklahoma. Have you not noticed that the illegal immigrants are departing from this state. Who will build this wall? Probably the illegal immigrants or better yet have all the politicians construct this fence. It will make our tax dollars work for you.

As I have stated before, the fence would not be necessary if the laws were enforced by the Federal Government. Also if the employers hiring them for cheap labor were fined properly, there would be no reason for them to be here and our unemployment would immediately drop. If the jobs disappear, so will they. It is a sad state of affairs when the States must pass laws that should be upheld be the Federal Government.

Way to go Mary is right! Our money down the drain. Make it a 30 foot wall, and watch the boom in 31 foot ladders. Another politician, another few billions out the window, or through the wall.

Fire them all, arrest and deport , then lock them out for good....

Everything they have tried at the border has worked. In the two areas where double-layer fences have been built, San Diego, and Yuma, they have reduced illegal immigrants down to a trickle. In the Rio Grande Valley, the jailing of border crossers has also slowed down illegal immigrants to a trickle. The vehicle barriers in the Yuma area has also reduced the number of vehicles attempting to cross to just a few. So, everything works, they just need a lot more of it.

To #19 Vote Dem - you have never heard the old saying have you, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt". It is pretty obvious to most of us here where you stand on this issue. It is all of America that will be crying, not just the right. When these illegals take your job and we change our language to Spanish and tell you that you can't get medical attention because the hospitals are broke, it will all of us who are crying.

The border solution is totally clear, crystal clear. Send the Marines, the Army, and the Air Force to the border and blow anyone trying to cross over into a million pieces. All it would take would be a few incidents of this and word of mouth would spread like wildfire. I can assure that no illegals would ever cross again.

if the libs don't want a fence, we could just use a minefield at the border- bouncing bettys are very effective in stopping unwanted traffic

Vote Dem, why don't you use the liberal Democrat method of solving the problem and just talk to them. Why not read them a bedtime story in the desert south of Tucson. The Republicans tried to build the fence, but the Democrats want to give these people citizenship instead?? WTF??? Mary Fallin is one of a few lawmakers with a pair that is willing to do what the majority of America wants done! It is liberal idiots like you you that want to give away everything we have to a group of illegals that think Mexico is the greatest country on earth??? WTF???? When your Democratic friends raise your taxes and take away your social security benefits to give to the illegals, maybe, just maybe, your microscopic liberal brain may see the light.
