School faces a revised lawsuit

Tim Brooker

Two former ORU professors file a new version that adds and drops names while getting more specific.

Former Oral Roberts University professors Tim Brooker and Paulita Brooker filed a new version of their lawsuit Friday, adding and subtracting people they are suing.

In the new version, they no longer are suing ORU Provost Mark Lewandowski, but they added as defendants the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association and individual members of the governing boards for ORU, Oral Roberts Ministries and OREA.

The ORU board members who are listed include Chairman George Pearsons, the executive committee minus university founder Oral Roberts, the business regents, and Associate Regent Michael Cardone Jr., who has been an associate regent at least since 2000. People who resigned from the board since the lawsuit was filed Oct. 2 are included:

Lindsay Roberts, Creflo Dollar, Jesse Duplantis, I.V. Hilliard and Benny Hinn.

Oral Roberts Ministries and OREA directors are listed as John Doe(s) and Jane Doe(s).

The Brookers’ legal claims and arguments remain the same in the latest version of their lawsuit, although they now specify which defendants are facing which accusations, including breach of contract/wrongful discharge, slander, negligence and more.

A gag order issued Jan. 11 prevents parties in the case from talking about the lawsuit outside of court.

In previous versions of the lawsuit, the Brookers accused Lewandowski, ORU’s top academic administrator, of playing a part in wrongfully causing Tim Brooker to lose his job.

In November, Lewandowski came out against Richard Roberts remaining as president, a position former plaintiff John Swails said he supported. Roberts resigned Nov. 23 but has denied wrongdoing.

Swails settled his portion of the case after a day of mediation Jan. 10 and was rehired by ORU.

A $70 million offer for ORU from businessman Mart Green and his family is largely contingent on whether ORU can settle unspecified litigation, according to an ORU press release this week.

After the professors filed their suit, two ORU students and a former ORU accountant each sued the school. Nothing has happened in those cases in court since November.

Best wishes for the future of ORU !
Although, it will take many years to recover its reputation.

I'm calling it.....Dr. Mark Lewandowski will lobby to be the next president of ORU. That's what this move was all about. With his name no longer on the lawsuit, he's got to be thinking that with his great experience in "righting several ships" in big business that he is a frontrunner for the job. He knows that his good buddy and local businessman, Rick Fennimore is on the new board of trustees and will definately nominate him to the search committee. My guess is that that even though he tried to distance himself from Richard Roberts, because his name WAS on the original lawsuit, he will be affiliated with the Old Regime and thus overlooked to lead the university.

And the whole sordid mess continues...but under a judges gag order. Bright light will never shine on this bunch.

ORU certainly doesn't want its dirty laundry out in public. There has been heavy pressure on the plaintiffs to settle this quietly, including a Tulsa World editorial!

Why have the plaintiffs refused to settle? Perhaps they will insist on taking this to trial so that the whole world can know the full details of what was going on at "God's University."

I am not convinced ORU is "God's University."

I'm afraid that God has not been well represented much of the time if this is His university. If it had really been "God's University", wouldn't it have been called that? Or at least GRU (God and Roberts University).
It's my opinion that by the time that university was built and opened, Mr. Roberts was much too powerful in his own eyes to give that much room to God in the matter. Oral Roberts and Money ruled the day........and as far as I can tell, it hasn't changed much in the Richard Roberts saga. Maybe the university will be renamed: RRU--Richard Roberts University.
Then the Roberts kingdom will be kept in its rightful place....above all.

I have only posted on in these articles one time. So here goes my second post.
------
I am sitting in my home dying from an incurable inherited disease. I can not work and I can not get insurance, and I can not qualify for Medicaid. I am trying to disability and they keep turning me down.
---------
Most of you fight over things that will never matter. I just wish Mr. Green would help me get health care instead of baling out a university that in the end does not matter. At least when I die I will not hurt anymore.
-----
I leave one thought with all of you. You will never take things to heaven with you. You will only take souls.
----------
As Check It Out once said, I doubt any of you will even read my post or care. That is fine, because most of you could care less if people like me exists.

Lewandowski hasn't a chance, (1/26/2008 8:02:00 PM)
Colleges & universities do not choose for their President, a Provost who grandstands the way Lewandowski did. He wrote that letter to the Board of Regents, giving it to the media first. His "ultimatim" cost him any & all opportunity, or potential to become President of any institution of higher learning. When it comes to a President, academia wants professionalism & a good fundraiser that can get along with all sorts of people, not dramatic grandstanding. JMO, but a professional one.

#13 Lew hasn't a chance - "When it comes to a President, academia wants professionalism & a good fundraiser that can get along with all sorts of people, not dramatic grandstanding. JMO, but a professional one."

But ORU doesn't want to be part of academia, and the hayseeds that enable it certainly don't want that.

From what I have read on these boards the past few mos, they want:

A "special" Charismatics-only holding pen for their toys/children

Theological purity among the BOT, favoring Pentecostalism/Charismania

"Students" who never learn anything except for how to jibbajabba on Tuesdays and Thursdays, who only wear certain clothes, only read certain materials, only screw a certain way, and only love a certain way.

None of these things has ANYTHING to do with academia.

In short, they are like the village whining that everyone else has a fiddler on the roof, but their little Pentecostal corner of the universe doesn't.

The manner in which you speak & write demonstrates that you do not know very much about higher education, or professional criteria.

Read # 16. There is no other way to answer this person. Your use of words (ex. stupid) is not effective, either. Refer to #17.

It should be a federal crime to give desperate people false hope, as the Roberts, Bakkers, TBN, Robertson, Hinn, Dollar, and the rest of these crooks have.

Corinthians 6:1-8 definitely instructs believers to not go to court against one another. If we do we only demonstrate that Christians are not capable of forgiving each other and what message does that send to the non believer.

If you get a chance, check out the movie called "Time Changer"
A christian sci-fi with a great insight into the "church of today".

What are the two greatest commandments according to Christ?
Matt 22 "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, soul and mind" and then he goes on to say, the second greatest is like it, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Matthew 18:15 - But if thy brother sin against thee, go, reprove him between thee and him alone. If he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. ------

According to the lawsuit - it sounds as though the Word of God was not taken into consideration.

-------------------------
From news source:
The lawsuit alleged Dr. Swails and Tim and Paulita Brooker were forced out after they reported ORU's involvement in a local political race and 'gave regents a report alleging moral and ethical problems' of Mr. Roberts and his family.
