Teen shot during alleged robbery attempt
By Staff Reports
Published:
3/5/2008 2:11 AM
Last Modified: 3/5/2008 2:11 AM
A 15-year-old boy was in serious condition Tuesday night after being shot while allegedly trying to rob a restaurant, and a man was shot in the face earlier Tuesday in what a detective said could have been a parking-lot robbery attempt.
After the teenager was shot about 8:20 p.m. at Ralph's Fish & Burger, 1801 N. Lewis Ave., a second would-be robber fled, police said.
The restaurant's owner told police that he had shot someone who was trying to rob him, Sgt. Virgil Litterell said.
The youth reportedly had a gunshot wound to the lower back. EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells said he was taken to St. John Medical Center.
The restaurant had just closed and an employee had stepped out the front door when two armed juveniles confronted him, Litterell said. While one pushed the employee to the ground, the other entered the restaurant, he said.
When the owner saw the armed youth enter, he drew a gun and fired twice, hitting the teen once, "before he could be fired upon," Litterell said.
The other youth ran west across Lewis, dropping his gun in the street, Litterell said.
Police used a helicopter and dogs in their search for the teen who fled. He was described as black, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a slender build and dark clothes.
Earlier
shooting
:
Earlier in the day, a gunshot victim was taken to a hospital from the Brandywine Apartments, 4020 S. 130th East Ave., in serious condition, authorities said.
He and another man were working on a car when a gunman walked up and told them not to move, Cpl. K.D. Williams said. The gunman then shot one of the men in the face and ran north and then west through the complex.
The shooter was described as black, in his early 20s, and about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing black and had his face covered.
The shooting appeared to be an armed robbery attempt, Sgt. Dave Walker said.
Unrelated
robberies
:
Police also are investigating three armed robberies Monday night and early Tuesday. The first occurred about 6:20 p.m. Monday in a parking lot near the 3600 block of South Yale Avenue.
That robber was described as white, in his early 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 170 pounds. A man who was with him was black and in his early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches and 175 pounds.
About 8:15 p.m. Monday, a man was robbed as he was walking near 67th Street and Lewis Avenue.
That robber was black, about 5 feet 7 inches and 150 pounds. He wore a camouflage jacket and black pants and carried a dark-colored semiautomatic pistol.
In the third heist, two young men or teenagers forced their way inside a woman's home at the South Glen Apartments, 5629 S. Quaker Ave., and robbed her about 2:10 a.m.
They were wearing black clothing and black ski masks.
Anyone with information about the robberies or shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS.

Well,
We are talking about gang bangers here...not the most intelligent breed on the planet. Atleast he'll have a scar to brag about while he's eating his chicken and smokin' his blunt.

Okay, okay, NOT forgiving the crimes here, but it seems to me that it is getting worse. Perhaps because the economy is tanking and people can't get by anymore? Milk is $4 a gallon for pity's sake!!!
Or are we not giving them something better to live for than to end up on prison?

Are we all glad our police are patroling railroad crossings? Apparently that's the only safe place in this city.

KJRH reported the teen will be paralyzed from the waist down. Hope no arrest is made until after he is released, if ever - that way the city and county will not be on the hook for his medical bills.

Give those shooters a Kewpie doll and more ammo. Like a local bumper sticker says: Fight Crime, Shoot Back!! Better aiming next time will prevent repeat offenders and tax payers money spent on over crowded prisons.

Lets not forget how are cabdidates plan on getting into office. Corporate backing & entitlement programs. Obama & Hillary will increase entitlement programs for each and every extra kid these impoverished unwed momma's add to their income. P.s. you will not want to go shopping at the 1st of the month . The free handouts will make you sick. Expect more gang bangers every year. They are being paid to multiply. Funny how the politicians don't have bussing into their hoods. They'll grab the votes & wont have to live with the aftermath. We need campaign reform Fast!

So what happened to the one that ran off that the police used a helicopter and dogs to chase? Did he get away? Was he caught, or did he surrender peacefully or something else? FINSH THE STORY! And what about the one at the Brandywine? He just walks up, shoots his victim and runs off? Where are the rest of the details?
Is this a case of poor reporting or poor editing? Tell us TWorld.

How about if Henderson puts up a toll bridge from north to south then he could collect some money for his raise, oh wait there won't be anybody who could afford it they would end up robbing the toll booths but maybe it will keep the thugs on the north side...

These monsters retaliate. I had graffiti on my small business & removed it. One of these punks came in & said I dissed his colors. The police are too busy playing in their fancy new cars with their fancy new rumblers trying out their fancy new electronic tickets on the working people. In low crime areas.
your on your own here. I did however get my 3rd seat belt ticket. I feel safer already. Yee haw Tulsa!

#18 ye freaks like Underwood are far & few between however, these gang bangers are assualting innocent people every single day. We should be allowed to single them out. None of this fear of racial slander. So we can make society safe for the honest working class ethnic groups. They are also living in fear of murderous thugs. Tulsa is ignoring this problem. This double standard bullllll is making our societies dangerous to live in.

#11 anyone with common sense can see that entitlement programs are paying single minority mothers $ to multiply. This is only going to make the gang problem bigger every year. At least the pompous do gooders don't have to see it from the upper eschelon communities. Has anybody seen a public school around here lately. They are now baby sitting services for them. Why can't we hand these poor children the same educations that the Clintons children get in nice private shcools. We should bus a few into their hoods . Give them a tase of their own medicine.

Trust me, the officers aren't playing with their new toys...They really don't want the E-ticket system...The city has just discovered a new way to get more money...By making the officers write more tickets...Queen Kathy cancelled the Feb. police academy that would have put at least 20 more officers on the streets...But as long as she gets her new convention center, city hall and $70 million baseball stadium..who cares about the rest of us...
