They reportedly fall short of making actual death threats against the anti-gay lawmaker.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is sorting through nearly

7,000 e-mails that were sent to a state lawmaker after she said homosexuality is a bigger threat to the United States than terrorism.

Comments by Rep. Sally Kern, recorded several weeks ago but placed on the Internet site YouTube only late last week, have caused a national outcry, resulting in more than 500,000 hits on the Web site.

A fellow lawmaker contacted the OSBI on Monday and suggested that agents go through the e-mails, some of which might be threatening, OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown said.

Kern said Monday that she had not received death threats. On Tuesday, she said, "It's changed," but she did not elaborate.

Brown said Tuesday, "There are a lot of e-mails to the representative that say, 'You ought to die,' rather than, 'I am going to kill you.'

"I wouldn't characterize them as death threats," she said.

But Brown said OSBI computer analysts are working to find the senders and that some might be interviewed to assess their intent. She said it's possible that the OSBI will refer some to district attorneys for prosecution.

Three OSBI agents are reviewing the e-mails and listening to telephone calls received by Kern, whose husband is a Baptist minister.

Kern said she has spoken to Republican groups about four times in recent weeks about what she calls the threat of homosexuality to the nation.

In the audio, Kern noted, "The very fact that I am talking to you like this here today puts me into jeopardy."

Kern said no society that has embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades, "so it is the death knell of this country," she said.

She asserted the government wants to indoctrinate children as young as 2 into thinking that homosexuality is OK. She also contends that several city councils across the country have been taken over by gay people.

Kern said someone must have secretly taped her comments and then given them to the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, which bills itself as the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender political action committee.

An audio presentation of her comments, which she said were greatly condensed, showed up on the organization's Web site before being placed on YouTube.

Chuck Wolfe, president of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, made public on Tuesday an open letter he sent to Kern.

"What you said was not okay, but that's not because most sensible people disagree with it," Wolfe wrote. "It's because your words give aid and comfort to those who would hurt, maim and even kill people who are different from you . . . ."

"Just this past fall, Steven Domer, a 62-year-old gay man was brutally murdered right in your home state of Oklahoma," he wrote.

Authorities believe that Domer was strangled Oct. 26 by two members of a white-supremacist group who targeted Domer because he was gay.

"The point of the Victory Fund's releasing your speech was to draw attention to the fact that even elected leaders like you are saying some nasty and potentially dangerous things about your fellow citizens," Wolfe wrote. "Our mission is to elect people to counter your hate and bigotry with honesty and courage."

Gov. Brad Henry said Tuesday that he doesn't think Kern's remarks represent Oklahoma, "and I would just urge all public officials in Oklahoma to cool the rhetoric."

"Think before you speak, and be respectful of all people," Henry said.

I know there will be a flood of comments, but....she has the right to say what she feels, and maybe it's best because then her incredibly small mind and heart are exposed for what they are.
I hope I live to see the day when this would be unthinkable instead of just distastful.

#1, I haven't heard it put so well in a while. And, at least she gets to see that her spouting hate isn't just abstract personal judgments on the lives of others like she thinks, but that she's offending actual people. Even if she's not forced to resign, its nice to know this is at least a hassle for her.

Sounds like she's grandstanding. She admits there were no threats, but she's asking for an investigation. What a loser.

Well, well, there were no ACTUAL death threats, but that's what hit the TV news and newspapers when this hate story broke. I wonder who lied to the press about this? Oh, that's right -- lies don't matter if there's an "R" after your name -- at least, it's worked for Bush/Halliburton/Cheney/Blackwater so far.

She should have to pay the full cost of the OSBI investigation. There's no way she could ever pay the cost of her damage to the image of Oklahoma.

What a supreme embarrassment to our otherwise wonderful state. We need to band together to show the rest of the nation that this type of overt bigotry and discrimination is not what Oklahoma is about, and not what Oklahomans represent. Does Oklahoma's constitution mirror the US's in that the House of Reps can choose not to allow a member to represent their district? Someone should make a motion to have that vile woman removed.

Actually, Citizen, the state House GOP delegation gave Kern a standing ovation instead of removing her. They have likewise damaged the reputation of our state.

Kern got the press she wanted. She knew all the conservative Christian Republicans would rally behind and attack on gay rights, and the icing on the cake was alleging the gays were threatening to cause her harm. What a rallying cry for narrow minded, self righteous, bigots. Rural Oklahoma politics at its best.

She's entitled to her opinion. Period. How many times have the so-called tolerant left said that conservatives should die for their beliefs? Go to any leftist liberal website like Daily Kos or the Huffington Post and read the crap the people who claim to be tolerant spew.

Not only does she as an elected representative of the people want to spout her opinion, she wants to manipulate the press to look like a martyr for it. She gets to have her cake and eat it too. Wonder what this investigation is going to cost the taxpayers of Oklahoma?

Wonder, if the situation were reversed, and gays made up a majority of the state, would she be on such a rant? Probably not; she'd probably cater to her largest constituency. Anything to stay in power.

Of course she's entitled to her opinion; one can just hope that the next elected representative of the people who opens his or her mouth with an opinion can express a reasonable and educated one. Oh, I forgot, we can't even expect that from the White House, so why should any state house be different?

The Internet has spread the word about this creature masquerading as a politician. so that those of us in eastern Canada can also be disgusted by her comments.

Seems to me that the Oklahoma City Bombing was performed by a terrorist who was not a homosexual, but who caused massive tragedy to your state and the whole United States.

Here in Canada, this woman would be loudly ondemned for making such hate-inciting statements.

Article I. All men [not women] are born free [define free] and equal [except those with slightly different skin pigments], and have certain natural [hear that gays], essential, and unalienable rights [not to be confused with illegal aliens]; among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying [only when approved] and defending [don't ask don't tell] their lives [excluding capital punishment] and liberties [liberty as decided by the popular/majority]; that of acquiring, possessing, and protecting property [Native Americans ignore this section]; in fine, that of seeking [where's Jim Crow on this one?] and obtaining [except through political processes or courts – that’s cheating!] their safety [hate does not exist so why should it be a crime?] and happiness. [Best that we all ignore this last part, after all we have a lot of medaling to do in others lives.]

In the Monday article "Oklahoma legislator's anti-gay comments stir hostile reaction," it was stated:
"Kern said she has received more than 3,000 e-mails and hundreds of telephone calls since her comments were posted online. She said a few supported her comments but that most condemned them and that some contained death threats and obscenities."
--
Now the OSBI has proved she lied about the death threats.

Oh, there are a lot of ignorant folks, claiming to be Christian, who support her hatred and they have been doing a lot of gay-bashing in earlier releated Tulsa World Articles.

The comments about homosexuality aside--she states that ISLAM is a HUGE threat to our nation. How can a public official who is to represent all people, and must protect the religious freedom of all her constituents--make a comment that clearly shows discrimination against someone else's religion? That comment alone--that ISLAM IS A HUGE THREAT TO OUR NATION--should result in her removal from her position. If she made this same comment about blacks, wouldn't it be the same? Homosexuality is not protected by law like religion and race, so you can't really bust her on her homophobic language--but her comments about others' religions, in my opinion, means that this evil, evil, closeminded thing needs to go.

Kern admitted that she tried to get a law passed BECAUSE OF the gay-straight alliance groups, and that shows her intent very clearly: that she intends to legislate her own, personal religious views. This is directly contrary to the First Amendment. This woman either needs to retract her statements, or she needs to be REMOVED from office.

Why doesn’t Oklahoma give the land back to the Indians? It seems they knew how to run it better than the white man.

The official Muslim Bible, aka Koran or Qaran, etc., does state that infidels, meaning anyone who does not practice Islam, should be put to death.
The Christian part of the Bible, the New Testament, says nothing about killing those who do not believe in Jesus.

You guys make a lot of great points about the radical homosexual agenda of wanting to be equal. It got me thinking of the biggest threat of all, gay marriage. Here are the reasons why we must never allow such an un-American act to be recognized.

First, Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

Second, Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

Third, Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

Fourth, Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

Fifth, Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

Sixth, Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.

Seventh, Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

Eight, Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.

Ninth, Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

And Finally, Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
