OKLAHOMA CITY -- The son of a state lawmaker who has condemned homosexuality as a worse threat to the U.S. than "terrorists or Islam" said Friday he wants it known that he is "straight and not gay."
Jesse Kern, son of Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said information purporting that he is gay, which has appeared on several blogs, is damaging to himself and his family.
Kern, 31, said he feels the media has a responsibility to seek out the truth, then report it.
Kern, who said he is affiliated with the Des Moines School of Metaphysics, said that he chooses to be celibate, but he is not homosexual.
"First of all, no one's sexuality is anyone's business. It is not even my mother's business," he said. "I practice celibacy to give to my God," he said.
Kern said metaphysics helps teach him such things such as concentration, which has helped him keep focused with all the adverse publicity surrounding his mother's comments.
Kern said his mother's comments apparently were taken out of context. He has not chosen to listen to the audio version that has been disseminated widely throughout the nation.
Kern's views differ from those of his mother, although he applauds her for standing up for what she believes, and thanks his parents for his good upbringing. His father is a Baptist minister in Oklahoma City.
He said the purpose of sex is reproduction, and it is the function of the animal body.
"But we are more than animals, and we can use sex for a tool of deep relationship with another person."
Kern added that what is more important than whether it be a relationship with someone of the same sex, is that there "needs to be honor in any relationship whether it is a straight or gay relationship."

SALLY KERNS FOR GOVERNOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Justification of sin is just that and probably most of us have been guilty of it at some point in time in our lives but it doesn't make it right; it's still sin. If anyone is committing homosexual acts, it is sin just as robbing a bank is sin. Rape is a sin. Lying is a sin; no matter how great or small the lie. We can all justify our actions but it doesn't change the fact that sin still exists in the world and that we all commit sin. The bottom line, we all need Jesus and his forgiveness.

Is it really any of your business what kind of live style someone else chooses to live as long as they’re not dangerous threat to society? If someone chooses to be gay it is no lesser of a crime than it is for you to be a close minded bible banger.
wouldnt you like to know

#2, No we all dont need Jesus & his 'forgiveness'. Some of us arent Christian & dont subscribe to your views on 'sin & forgiveness'. Some of us know we are to hold ourselves accountable & that every action we send out, comes back to us in the end, if we send out good, good returns, if we send out bad, it returns. Some of us believe it returns threefold.
Not everyone needs a myth to make them live a good life.

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that it upsets him when people sin. But, more than that, I believe that if Jesus were on earth today, homosexuals are people that he would spend time with, eat dinner with and minister to. I know that he would show them love. Which, unfortunately is more than I can say for his followers.
The Bible is about the power of love in the face of sin and hatred. I'm sorry for the way Christ's followers have represented him on this earth.

It's about time that we went back to the word of God. Homosexuality is evil. We should be able to sell our daughters into slavery. Shellfish is an abomination.
Amen.

I Corinthians 14:34,35 and I Timothy 2:10-12 tell us that women are to NEVER usurp authority over a man and to NEVER be in authority, but to remain in silence. So why are so-called Christians on this board encouraging Sally Kern to run for a political post directly opposite to what the Bible tells her to do? THAT'S CALLED SIN...AND SIN IS SIN!! Instead of running for governor or remaining a representative, she should quite all positions of authority. According to the Good Book, that's man's work! What does the Bible say is woman's work (Titus 2:5): keepers at home, good, and obedient to their husbands. To do otherwise, my friends, is going against the Bible. And that, my friends, IS SIN!!

You all are brainwashed. Sin is disrespecting God and others and gay-bashing is disrespecting others. Stop being hypocritical and stop listening to homophobic fear-based lies. If one of your ministers told you to do something you KNEW was wrong or illegal would you do it? If you really read Christ's message you would know that the mean-spiritedness you are showing others IS a sin, and the worst kind.
Not Homophobic

The Bible also says the smell of a burning bull is pleasing to the Lord, but it sure pisses off my neighbors. Sally Kern should quit spewing hate, and hiding behind religion as justification for her backward views.

our heart goes out to Jesse kern for being dragged into this discussion.
he certaintly has our sympathy with a baptist minister for a father and
a mother who is more that a loose cannon.

I am a christian and not ashamed but it makes me sick and mad when people try to tell people how to live their lives and quoting the very few scriptures they know. It would be a much better world if we treated EVERYONE with dignity. I don't care if you're gay, straight, celibate, platonic or a prostitute. My dad (rest his soul) use to say 6 months minding your own business 6 months staying out of everybody else's will keep you busy all year long.

New testament ......Men with Men
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
OLD TESTAMENT…KEEPING IN MIND THE BIBLE CLEARLY SAYS…I AM THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER…I CHANGE NOT…
Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination…………………….
Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them……………
No question about what the bible says.....
Heterosexual Sin
kerns comments should have been inclusive of all the destructive sexual sins. Heterosexuals seem to think they have one up on gay population.
Just by the sheer numbers, heterosexual sin if far more destructive to society than homosexual sin ever will be.
Our society has been devastated by the "heterosexual sin" of pre-marital sex, abortion (murder), rape, adultry, divorce, prostitution, incest, pornagraphy, sexual abuse, and sexually transmitted diseases.
So while one group is pointing the finger at a very small segment of society-
we are ignoring the results of the horrendous morals of a large part of our crumbling society. Our families are in crisis. And pointing the finger at the gay population will never solve our problems.
We cannot change what we do not acknowledge.

Since we are going to ignore law and instead place the bible as our rule book for living in America, then in addition to all of our high-minded remarks about homosexuality we should also take immediate action to end legal divorce.
God, jeus, the pope and the holy ghost are all opposed to marriage and consider it an unforgivable sin. Why do we allow our government to sanction a sin as foul as divorce? How dare we spit in God's eye this way!
Stop being so predictably red neck and short sighted and get rid of divorce - and while you are at it birth control of all kinds.
Are heterosexuals that stupid that they think the homosexuals will be the only ones to face god's wrath?
How could you foolish people of god allow divorce to happen?
I guess I understand now how you could be gullible enough to believe that terrorists are going to get you...you people will believe anything....good luck!

"God, jeus, the pope and the holy ghost are all opposed to marriage and consider it an unforgivable sin."
Make that "God, jeus, the pope and the holy ghost are all opposed to DIVORCE and consider it an unforgivable sin."

It is so considerate of all of you, to make judgments taking the burden off of God's shoulders. I'm sure Jesus is so overloaded He is as pleased as punch to have you throwing all these stones in his name. When do we get to send them to re-education camps? Then we can send the Jews, Mormons, Catholics, etc. Then we'll be a free nation again. Free from all this we judge sinful.

The 1989 convictions on the Oklahoma court information site is for another person with the same name. Sally Kern's son would have been 12 years old in 1989 since he is 31 today.

It's amazing how some of you think you have the right to judge people based on your own religion, while at the same time defying everything in Jesus' teachings. You guys use the Bible to justify your hatred and call others on their sins. Fred Phelps is hardly an isolated case. This is so sad.

This just shows how far the gay community will go to put their agenda out their. I'm getting tired of them flaunting their perversion in our faces. Sally Kern is right!

@Ranch Hand, Owasso
Point taken.
Generalizations of any kind aren't very helpful.
