Sally Kern's son denies reports he is gay

Video: Listen to Sally Kern's controversial speech.

Complete coverage: Oklahoma legislator's anti-gay comments stir hostile reaction :: Kern cites support from GOP :: OSBI reading Kern e-mails :: Local gay organization denounces Kern's comments against homosexuality :: Anti-gay remarks blasted

Vote in a poll: Would you sign the petition to have Sally Kern removed from office?

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The son of a state lawmaker who has condemned homosexuality as a worse threat to the U.S. than "terrorists or Islam" said Friday he wants it known that he is "straight and not gay."

Jesse Kern, son of Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said information purporting that he is gay, which has appeared on several blogs, is damaging

to himself and his family.

Kern, 31, said he feels the media has a responsibility to seek out the truth, then report it.

Kern, who said he is affiliated with the Des Moines School of Metaphysics, said that he chooses to be celibate, but he is not homosexual.

"First of all, no one's sexuality is anyone's business. It is not even my mother's business," he said. "I practice celibacy to give to my God," he said.

Kern said metaphysics helps teach him such things such as concentration, which has helped him keep focused with all the adverse publicity surrounding his mother's comments.

Kern said his mother's comments apparently were taken out of context. He has not chosen to listen to the audio version that has been disseminated widely throughout the nation.

Kern's views differ from those of his mother, although he applauds her for standing up for what she believes, and thanks his parents for his good upbringing. His father is a Baptist minister in Oklahoma City.

He said the purpose of sex is reproduction, and it is the function of the animal body.

"But we are more than animals, and we can use sex for a tool of deep relationship with another person."

Kern added that what is more important than whether it be a relationship with someone of the same sex, is that there "needs to be honor in any relationship whether it is a straight or gay relationship."

Justification of sin is just that and probably most of us have been guilty of it at some point in time in our lives but it doesn't make it right; it's still sin. If anyone is committing homosexual acts, it is sin just as robbing a bank is sin. Rape is a sin. Lying is a sin; no matter how great or small the lie. We can all justify our actions but it doesn't change the fact that sin still exists in the world and that we all commit sin. The bottom line, we all need Jesus and his forgiveness.

#2, No we all dont need Jesus & his 'forgiveness'. Some of us arent Christian & dont subscribe to your views on 'sin & forgiveness'. Some of us know we are to hold ourselves accountable & that every action we send out, comes back to us in the end, if we send out good, good returns, if we send out bad, it returns. Some of us believe it returns threefold.
Not everyone needs a myth to make them live a good life.

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that it upsets him when people sin. But, more than that, I believe that if Jesus were on earth today, homosexuals are people that he would spend time with, eat dinner with and minister to. I know that he would show them love. Which, unfortunately is more than I can say for his followers.
The Bible is about the power of love in the face of sin and hatred. I'm sorry for the way Christ's followers have represented him on this earth.

I Corinthians 14:34,35 and I Timothy 2:10-12 tell us that women are to NEVER usurp authority over a man and to NEVER be in authority, but to remain in silence. So why are so-called Christians on this board encouraging Sally Kern to run for a political post directly opposite to what the Bible tells her to do? THAT'S CALLED SIN...AND SIN IS SIN!! Instead of running for governor or remaining a representative, she should quite all positions of authority. According to the Good Book, that's man's work! What does the Bible say is woman's work (Titus 2:5): keepers at home, good, and obedient to their husbands. To do otherwise, my friends, is going against the Bible. And that, my friends, IS SIN!!

If one of your ministers told you to do something you KNEW was wrong or illegal would you do it? If you really read Christ's message you would know that the mean-spiritedness you are showing others IS a sin, and the worst kind.

New testament ......Men with Men

Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
OLD TESTAMENT…KEEPING IN MIND THE BIBLE CLEARLY SAYS…I AM THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER…I CHANGE NOT…
Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination…………………….

Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them……………

Heterosexual Sin, (3/14/2008 1:22:01 PM)
kerns comments should have been inclusive of all the destructive sexual sins. Heterosexuals seem to think they have one up on gay population.
Just by the sheer numbers, heterosexual sin if far more destructive to society than homosexual sin ever will be.
Our society has been devastated by the "heterosexual sin" of pre-marital sex, abortion (murder), rape, adultry, divorce, prostitution, incest, pornagraphy, sexual abuse, and sexually transmitted diseases.
So while one group is pointing the finger at a very small segment of society-
we are ignoring the results of the horrendous morals of a large part of our crumbling society. Our families are in crisis. And pointing the finger at the gay population will never solve our problems.
We cannot change what we do not acknowledge.

Since we are going to ignore law and instead place the bible as our rule book for living in America, then in addition to all of our high-minded remarks about homosexuality we should also take immediate action to end legal divorce.

God, jeus, the pope and the holy ghost are all opposed to marriage and consider it an unforgivable sin. Why do we allow our government to sanction a sin as foul as divorce? How dare we spit in God's eye this way!

Stop being so predictably red neck and short sighted and get rid of divorce - and while you are at it birth control of all kinds.

Are heterosexuals that stupid that they think the homosexuals will be the only ones to face god's wrath?

How could you foolish people of god allow divorce to happen?

I guess I understand now how you could be gullible enough to believe that terrorists are going to get you...you people will believe anything....good luck!

Before you negate my views because you want to assume I MUST be gay to feel this way, I am female, married to a wonderful man, and I have 3 sons.

It seems to me that far-right Christians are much more dangerous to society and guilty of "infiltrating" positions of power, "brainwashing" young children, and condemning others than the Gay community is.

In this situation, the Gay community is preaching respect, compassion, and understanding for mankind. Christians, on the other hand, seem to be spewing venom and teaching hatred of others, which I find somewhat ironic.

As pointed out by many, contradictions in the bible abound (is it turn the other cheek or an eye for an eye?). Terminology changes over time. We say "wow he sure was smokin'!" meaning he was moving really fast, but taken literally it would mean he was actually on fire or smoldering. If Christians cannot concede that there is much room for interpretation in biblical teachings, then they lose credibility and appear as extreme and illogical as fundamentalist groups of other belief systems (who shall remain nameles) which you so oppose.

Let your God be the judge and follow the instructions in your sacred book - judge not, lest ye be judged.

Peace.

What I don't understand is, why does Sally Kern (and why do so many other Christian Republicans) think that homosexuality is all about sex? There are such things as homosexual virgins and celibate homosexuals. And those sorts of homosexuals would be doing nothing wrong, according to the Bible, since homosexual sex is the only thing that it condemns.

And even if a homosexual does have sex, does that really negate what Jesus says in Matthew 22:39? No, it does not. We, as Christians, are called to love our neighbors and our enemies (Matthew 5:44), so I don't see how or why you could justify hatred at all, if you're a Christian.

I have had many homosexual co-workers, friends and acquaintances . Some behave just like anyone else and their sexuality is their own business. THEN there were the ones that made you want to die of embarrassment because their behavior was so over the top. It's that behavior that causes such an uproar in society.

I am a Christian and truly believe that we should love everyone as Christ did. I try hard to follow the theology of "love the sinner; hate the sin" and believe you must develop an honest relationship and be led by the Holy Spirit before approaching the subject of anyone one else's sin. Remember, in God's eyes sin is sin. Gossip, lies, it all fits. But also as a parent I feel I have a responsibility to insulate my children from the over-the-top sexual behavior that is prevelant in our society today - whether it be homosexual or heterosexual.

Oh, Jesse Kern might be in the closet as far as his sexual orientation was concerned. I denied being a homosexual as far as the general public was concerned before March 12, 1984. That was the date I left Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to California.
--
But, if my parents had been asked if I was gay or homosexual before November 1988, they would have said "No." It was during the first week of that month that they found out I was gay.
--
When I was in the US Army down at Ft. Polk, Louisiana, I had gone on sick call because I had a bad case of the flu. The medic at the battalion aid station thought I was just malingering and he set up an appointment for me to go to Mental Health Services. The social worker who did the intake asked me a whole lot of questions which did not even have any connection with having the flu. One of those questions was about having same-gender sexual activity. I answered "No" because it had no connection with why I went on sick call in the first place. The social worker said that there was no reason for me have been sent to his office in the first place since I did have the flu.

In regard to that court case, the age of the Jesse Kern is not listed.

In my own experience, I have found that the ones with an agenda to push are the right-wing Christian fundamentalists. They seem to forget (or ignore) the fact that not everyone in America is a Christian who believes that the bible is the word of God. If one doesn't believe as they do, they are the first to condemn and villify.

Sally Kern did not only offend gays and lesbians, she offended the followers of Islam. Islam is NOT a threat to this nation. And neither are gays and lesbians.

She also clearly stated that not all religions are equal. I would like her to expalin which ones are superior and why.

If her comments were taken out of context, as she claims, let her produce them in their entirety.

She can believe whatever she wants to believe. But as an elected official representing a multi-cultural and ethnically diverse constituency, she has no right whatsoever to say the ignorant things that she did in a public forum. Doing so was an abuse of her platform.

I hope the good people of Oklahoma will see this twisted and stupid woman for what she is and vote her out of office.

If she were truly Christian, she would beg the gays and lesbians and their loved ones to forgive her for the hurt, pain, anger, and confusion she has caused with her hate-filled spew.

Internet sites and blogs are buzzing with comments from people all over the world who find Kern's actions repugnant.

While she claims that she will not apologize to the millions of gay and lesbian people she has insulted, she certainly owes the people of Oklahoma an apology for casting your state in such a negative light internationally. She has not served you well.

She is a disgrace to Oklahoma and to this nation.

Shame on her!

My husband was a homophobe when I met him. He changed his tune after I asked him which of the following he'd prefer if our son turned out gay: that our son (an only child) be a successful and happy gay adult or a miserable man pretending to be someone/something that he's not. Any real parent wants their child to grow up to be happy and healthy. We don't have to agree with their decisions (if you so choose to believe that homosexuality is a choice - why anyone would choose to be gay is beyond me) or how or what they do, but their happiness and well being at ANY age should be a parent's number one priority. Maybe all of those screaming about the Bible need to recall that Jesus loved ALL the children and didn't discriminate.

What a lively "discussion".

What's really sad is that I have to list my name as "J" because of fear of physical retribution from so-called Christians to myself, family and property (it's happened before). I'm a Christian myself, but am open-minded (that DOES NOT mean I believe in a free-for-all on morality) but, that I believe in "live an let live". Because I believe in God, I also believe that I am responsible for my OWN actions and that I alone will answer for what I do / have done. I also follow the teachings of Christ and do my best to love my neighbors, gay, straight, transgendered, Muslim, Jewish or otherwise. I've met plenty of Christians who make me lower my head in shame for how they act towards others and say they do so in Jesus' name. You will never win hearts and souls with hatred.

It's obvious this issue will not go away. I am not ashamed to be Christian and follow God, but like to bumper sticker says "SAVE ME FROM HIS FOLLOWERS". Like one person commented, I too am ready to move from this state.

Of course, the answer(s) are: The majority of "straights" don't have same-gender sex! The ones that do "are not considered straight; they are considered to be "zig zag" people.

They also can not biologically produce offspring with their "life" partners.

According to the licensed and certified mental health professionals whose expertise is in the field of sexual orientation, a closeted homosexual can rightly say, "I am not gay."
--
That's because, in spite of folks using "gay" for anyone thought to be homoexual, closeted homosexuals are NOT happy with their sexual orientation.
--
If Jesse Kern is exclusively homosexual in his sexual orientation and yet he is in the closet as far as his family and general public is concerned, he can get by with saying "I'm not gay" since he is not happy with his sexual orientation.
--
Someone who personally knows Jesse Kern's actual sexual activities, even though he might claim to be chaste, might just decide to out him.
--
All J. Kern is saying in regard to his being celibate, literally speaking, is "I am not legally married." Oh, it is quite amusing that he belongs to a non-Christian organization.

The Bible's authors do not say same-gender consensual sexual activity in private is wrong. But, it does say that same-gender sexual activity in places where pagan fertility gods are being worshiped is wrong. Such activity is only literally or even figuratively mentioned found in Leviticus 18: 22 and 20:13 and Romans 1:27.
While Romans 1:26 is often assumed to women having sex with each other, the real truth is that Paul considered it to be against a woman's nature to be a heterosexual prostitute and even worse to be one serving a pagan god.

All of the other Hebrew and Greek language scriptures assumed to be anti-homosexual don't even have any connection with homosexuals in the first place.

It is intolerance that killed people in the Murrah Building - it is intolerance that killed people on 9/11 - it is intolerance that caused the Tulsa Race Riot. Kern is every bit as embarrassing as her son is gracious, but Oklahoma, unfortunately, is really a sheltered harbor for her sort of bile and flagrant misinformation. I stay here in OK. and talk about loving-kindness and compassion, but it is exhausting and it starts to feel futile.

Hannah - I am Athiest so don't assume that I believe that it is wrong because the Bible says it's wrong. I don't promote my Atheism but I don't care if people need to "commune" with a supreme being for comfort and guidance.

The following is my opinion. Doesn't mean I hate. The gay lifestyle and HIV killed my brother in 1994. I loved him but did not condone his lifestyle, just like I did not condone his alcoholism.

That gays and lesbians have to constantly lobby the government and the general public to "mainstream" the lifestyle, makes it plain to see that that in all societies, the majority see it as deviant behaviour.

There are many humans that exhibit deviant lifestyles, i.e., murderers, rapists, pedophiles, cannibals, those who find feces and urine erotic, the list goes on and on; many of those are also heterosexual. People who participate in those lifestyles also claim that they were born that way and did not choose to have those feelings. Many pay their taxes, have jobs, etc.

IMO, it is because the "genetic hardwiring is fouled up" and some can be treated and some can't. Each of these lifestyles represent a small segment of the population and each segment were bred by heterosexual parents, married or not, through natural conception or in vitro. Due to the laws of nature, it still took a male and a female to reproduce and perpetuate humanity.

While homosexuality is currently not viewed as extreme as other deviant behaviour, many homosexuals find it difficult to "come out" because they are not accepted by many others. I have never known a heterosexual have to "come out" because it is generally accepted normal behaviour in most socities. Because homosexuals have lobbied very hard for normalcy, many heteros have become more accepting.

It amazes me to see how the media buys in on the pro-sodomite agenda. Those that don't come to Christ on Gods terms are doomed. The bible says that hell is reserved for the fearful and unbelieving. The lost hell deserving sinner doesn't see his sin as God does. By that I mean that he doesn't see the seriousness of his/her sin. Revelation 21:8 says "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Sodomites are idolators. Now I didn't give you my opinion or interpret the verse in Revelation, I simply typed it. God said it. God doesn't change. Mal. 3:5 God said that if a man lie with another man as he lieth with a woman, it is an abomination for both of them. If you can read these verses, but dont' agree with the word of God then it's not because you hate me, it's because you hate God. And even then that's a form of Gods judgement upon you. Absolutely nobody dies of any disease just because they are gay. And not everybody who has contracted HIV will die either. There are folks who will die of natural causes who had been infected with HIV and live a long life because their style of healthful living helped them to live longer.

My late partner, Ed, who passed away in March 1991, did have HIV in his system; but, that virus had no connection with his death. Apparently, as a child he had contracted PML, a virus which affects the brain, which will not show up as long as the person infected with PML has little or no stress in his life. I did not have any connection with the stress in Ed's life and he had been infected with HIV in 1981 about 3 years before I met him.

Tell that to the families that are confronted by this deviant behavior in public. Take Mohawk Park for example. These freaks troll the park looking for anyone who might be willing to join in their perverted sexual needs. Go in one of the Port-a-Johns sometime. You will find that they are completely filled with various things luring people to hook up and have freak sex. Tell this to the guy who was riding his bicycle on the trail at Turkey Mountain when he was confronted by a young naked man asking if he could perform homosexual acts for him. I challenge you to walk the trails sometime and notice the tossed away under garments, bedding and even mattresses. Homosexual activity is deviant conduct; the same as a peeping tom, pedophilia, prostitution, bestiality, etc. and should not be treated as acceptable social behavior. Our laws are not perfect but are the closest thing to preventing complete pandemonium in our society. Life rarely seems fair to anyone but what has happened to sacrifice for the good of the whole? Homos want to live their lifestyle and force it to be acceptable regardless of whom or what it harms or destroys; using excuses like they can’t help that they were born with the desire. The real truth is that, even if, they were born with this abnormal desire they want to change it to be accepted as normal and that is what all this posting is about. They cry haters to anyone who disagrees with their mission. And shame on all of you who have been sucked in to this “everyone has the right to what ever personal choice they make” that is a load of crap. We are moving toward a society of self-centered individuals that care first for themselves and then maybe for someone else. It’s like you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. So Bush is a liar or what?

Thank you! It is the time for American people to stop promoting the hateful things against gay and lesbian people! American people must accept to follow and abide the equality rights and protection between both groups: be peaceful, respect and share the freedom/liberty between straight people and gay/lesbian people. Love each other! God tells us in the bible! Do love your neighbor!

If American people disagree with the statement from the bible saying "love thy neighbor!' then it proves my argument the bible has too many conflict words! Becoming Church State that return back to the Medival Time will creates the terrible wars! Bad idea..

Lets have the peaceful world: respect, love, support and protect each other to share the freedom/liberty under the equality rights between gay and lesbian people and straight people too.

American people have the choice to make!

I have a right to say it. Your state and the rest of American states must grow up and starts to learn and love each other with both groups: straight people and gay/lesbian people. I respect and love straight people. I respect and love gay and lesbian people too. We are in the freedom countries should promotes the human rights and equality! American people and your state needs to learn how not to hate with each other! If you live in Canada, and you said that some hate things against gay and lesbian people, FYI, you can be charge under hate crimes law that will sentence you at least 10 years in the prison. That does apply to the religious leaders too! You need to go back to Grade 1 and starts to learn it again! Sorry!

What is the matter with you? Are you so angry that Canada is so much better country that have the social and liberty agenda where we have the best human rights protection under the equality that applies gay/lesbian people and straight people, strong economy- no budget deficit, and freedom/liberty to live and share with each other! And American people don't have the same opportunities? Oh poor you!

Oh! The bible says: love thy neighbor, are you telling me that the bible is fake? Can you clarify for me? Thank you!

Contrary to popular belief, the truth does not change its contents to suit the preferences of the observer. I have known homosexual people. In interpersonal interaction, very few of them outwardly display any psychotic tendencies. I am sure that Joseph Mengele was the same (however you spell his name). I am sure that he could personally interact just as well as most anyone else—all while he was doing horrible damage to untold numbers of people. Just because someone is nice to you does not mean that their practices are not evil and wicked and dreadfully harmful—both to themselves and others. Just because they do not see the truth for what it really is does not mean that it is not the truth. Just because you don't like it does not mean that it is not true. The truth does not change its contents to suit the preferences of the observer. The truth is the truth whether you like it or not. The truth of the matter is that homosexual practices are harmful, evil, wicked, and perverse—no matter how nice the perpetrators seem to be to you.

I'm not gay, nor do I advocate a lifestyle based completely on sexual preference, but I am not the one to pass judgement. Second, none of you are lily white. Celebrating homosexuality is bad for society, and puts kids at greater risk. (Why has the average "coming out" age for youth plummeted? -- because the pro-gay pop culture is celebrating this destructive lifestyle. To listen to a good CWA interview with Kern, go to the website of Americans For Truth (Google it). #205, of course you don't want another San Francisco in Oklahoma. You wouldn't know if one of your cities became wealthy, beautiful, and filled with intelligent and creative people. You'd all have to move to Amarillo, I guess. If they'd have you.

I'm glad that you like your home state. I'd rather it be that way, because the alternative might be that you'd want to move to, say, Seattle, which trails San Francisco only slightly in the percentage of households composed of same-sex couples.

I understand that our losing basketball team is about to move there, at least for as long as the owner is required to park it until he can achieve his actual goal of putting it in Las Vegas. Have fun with those taxes; better you than us. But do us a favor: Send us your gay people. They'd be welcome here.

Jack Williams, Seattle (3/15/2008 5:47:23 PM)
Oh, yeah, #205 and the rest of you Okie idiots: Did you know that it was the U.S. government itself, and specifically the Department of the Navy, that was responsible for making San Francisco so gay? They did it by dumping freshly-discharged gay sailors there.

Now, when I lived in a small town in the Midwest, I remember someone saying nasty things about how San Francisco was filled with f*ggots, blah blah blah, just like #205. I turned to the dude and said, "Hey, why do you think that is? Do you think it just might be that they move to places like that because of the way they're treated here?"

I do understand that the heterosexual majority in Oklahoma hates gay people and wants them gone, dead or both. Your state has always been the single most anti-gay state in the country. From an early age, I recall reading story after story about the most brutal crimes committed against homosexuals there, and the refusal of local authorities to lift a finger.

I drove through Eastern Oklahoma about 25 years ago, and it was beautiful. But I knew where I was, and I kept going. I feel sorry for progressive people of any variety who have to live there, and I admire them for sticking it out. That said, if I were to meet a gay person 25 or under there, I'd tell them that Job #1 should be to get the hell out of Oklahoma, sooner the better.

The legislator's comment remind me of a long-ago conversation I had with a guy in a gay bar in Kansas City. He was telling me that his dream was to find a guy and settle down together on a side street in the suburbs and just live their lives.

I told him to move out of Kansas if he was going to do that. These people hate your guts, I told him. It's nothing personal, but most of these despise gay people and they'd just as soon see you dead. I always felt bad about what I told him; it was a depressing conversation and he was taken aback by my vehemence.

Maybe I should interject here that I'm not any sort of flamer. One group of people who knew me kept trying to set me up with women even after I let them know the score. They just didn't want to believe it. The guy I was talking to wasn't someone you'd pick out as gay, either.

But you Okies who consider any hint of homosexuality offensive just don't get it. The issue isn't that people want to dance naked in the streets. It's the daily social lies that get to you, like never referring to your partner as such in casual conversation even when you've been together for 20 years.

It's a long list, and after a while you start to think that maybe you'd like a little more respect. In some parts of the country you can get that respect, but obviously not in hillbilly country.

So, when I hear stuff like Sally Kern's speech, I have a number of reactions. One is, "Oh, yeah, same old Oklahoma. What else can you say about the corrupt home of Oral Roberts University and the gigantic praying hands, anyway?" Another reaction is anger, because, like it or not, there are gay people there and this is America and law-abiding citizens don't deserve this.

And I feel vindication about what I told the guy in Kansas City, but I find no joy in being right about it.

Proud Canadian, your heart's in the right place, but I'm afraid your understanding of the U.S. constitution is less than comprehensive. The original document never mentions freedom, and the word "liberty" appears once, in the preamble.

In the amendments, of which there are 27, freedom is mentioned once (in the first amendment), and liberty is mentioned twice, in the fifth and fourteenth amendments.

Oddly enough, the word freedom never appears in the Declaration of Independence, and liberty appears there only once. And now that we're on the subject of those documents, I might note that neither document ever declares the U.S. to be a Christian nation.

In fact, in the original constitution, the only time religion is mentioned it is to forbid its use in determining someone's fitness for public office. The Declaration of Independence acknowledges the existence of a "Creator" and asserts that this Creator endowed us with certain inalienable rights, among them being life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Christians have been lying about the relationship of church and state in America. Among their lies is to portray the founders of America as Christians, when in fact they were not. They were Deists, believing in God but not that Jesus Christ was God or savior or that God actively determined individual fates.

The Deists believed that the Bible was not the direct word of God, and many of them considered it barbaric for its violence. They were adamantly opposed to the mixing of church and state, having seen the ill effects of that in Europe.

Of course, your average Okie understands none of this. Your average Okie is an ignorant hillbilly who hates the very principles on which the United States was founded, and is willing to lie, cheat, and steal to uphold his illusions.

--
A few years back, when an openly gay senior was being graduated from Jenks Senior High School, the commencement was held in the ORU Mabee Center.
--
Because of that, Phelps family clan were on the sidewalk on the Wal-Mart side of 81st Street across from ORU and one of them even had a sign which said, "ORU F-A-G UNIVERSITY." They not only held a demonstration at ORU, they held them at Jenks High School and the Jenks Public School Board, too.
--
They have even held demonstrations at Charles Page High School in Sand Springs and at a church there where the mother of an openly gay young man attended. The pastor of that church was not even pro-gay.
--
The local newsmedia outlets around the country were basically ignoring all of the Phelps clan's demonstrations. And, because of that, Phelps and his gang of homophobic terrorists decided to get public attention by picketing at funerals of service personnel who had been killed in Iraq. Yes, they have signs which say "F-A-G ARMY."

Gays and Christians must get along. I have a gay nephew and am honestly worried about him. We would never say angry things concerning him. It just makes me angry that immediately the public start putting down Christians, also.

There is no such thing as a homosexual lifestyle. There are no militant homosexuals in Oklahoma either.
The Muskogee VA Hospital's Tulsa Out Patient (Medical) Clinic and Mental Health Center does not discriminate against veterans who are openly gay.
--
I don't personally know any gay person who has lived in San Francisco and is now living here in Tulsa.
--
There is no such thing as homosexual disease. HIV originated with heterosexuals and gays initially contracted HIV from bisexuals who had had sex with women.
--
Every AIDS symptomatic disease can be contracted by a person NEVER exposed to the virus called "HIV." It has been proven that HIV has existed in the USA since the 1950s. Former US Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop wrote in a magazine for Charismatics, "We have always had AIDS." And he added words to the effect of "We just did not know what to call it."

Mam, If you want to visit Canada come to Calgary.
People in Calgary are very nice and like America and Americans.
Alberta has statistically speaking MORE OIL than Saudi Arabia
All the timber country, all the mineral mines. all the wealth of Canada. We also have the FAMOUS CALGARY STAMPEDE
RODEO. Our cowboys compete with the USA at the world finals.

Calgary is like Tulsa was back 30 years ago when Tulsa was the OIL CAPITOL OF THE WESTERN WORLD.
We have to support those welfare cases in Toronto.
You come to see us in Calgary .
WE ARE CANADA!!!!!

THE USA OIL COMPANIES AND CALGARY WORK TOGETHER
There are many Americans in Calgary ,Alberta.
Good luck sweetie and may GOD BLESS THE LOWER 48 STATES OF AMERICA.

"The first recognised cases of AIDS occurred in the USA in the early 1980s (more about this period can be found on our history page). A number of gay men in New York and California suddenly began to develop rare opportunistic infections and cancers that seemed stubbornly resistant to any treatment. At this time, AIDS did not yet have a name, but it quickly became obvious that all the men were suffering from a common syndrome. "

Sally needs the lords "forgiveness" just as bad as the "sining" homosexual for judging others. She needs to learn that her bible-thumping ways were a thing of the past and she will find that she will soon be all alone on this subject. As time progresses, people change. You may take this back a couple decades to integration. Although two totally different subjects, your lovely "religious" representatives of state were imagine this against the whole idea....soon they realized it was a battle that could not be won and thereafter gave in. I feel the same will happen on this subject of matter. I am no activist, however I believe in treating all fair and allowing the one person that matters to judge me for the good I have done....not the "wrong" based on southern bible-belt beliefs.

Canadians do not discriminate against any one because of race, religion or creed. [WE DONT HAVE ANY ISSUES OF THAT SORT IN ALL OF CANADA]
YET
A few years ago Canada almost broke up into different countries
It was a giant issue in Canada.
Calgary works, our people have a strong work ethic
Toronto will not work.
Even today Calgary is 35% short of a work force and those lazy
people in Toronto will not come and get a job and help themselves or their country. Welfare is their proffesion.
That is a Candadian thing!! lol

Sally Kern is an irresponsible BIGOT. She is condoning hatred and discrimination based on her narrow views and opinions. He book is not LAW, it is OPINION. Her words are dangerous because they incite violence against gay people. She is an accomplice to attacks and murder, which she should be fearful as a "sin", as she believes. If she is right about hell, she will be meeting there after death for spreading hate and violence against other human beings.

But if ye forgive not their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses. If you feel like I'm trespassing on you because of my sexuality that has nothing to do with you, maybe you should follow the good books lesson, Maybe you should let God do the judging of me, I don't stand in judgment of you and your life, when the gentiles were trowing stones at the harlot Jesus stopped them by saying which one of you have such a clean life that you can judge this women! His example to us here is we don't have the right judging each other, he told us to love thy neighbor as we love ourselves, I am your neighbor! you cannot pick and choose out of God word what you can through around! LORD FORGIVE ME. I AM A VILE SINNER!

I know in your HOLY WORD in Deuteronomy 14:9-10 you tell me not to eat shrimp. You tell me it is an abomination and that you hate me for it. I know you said you'd send me to hell for eating shrimp. I AM NOT WORTHY! LORD LET ME BURN FOREVER IN THE LAKE OF FIRE!

But, luckily, Jesus has forgiven me...I was a vile, VILE sinner when I ate those Oyster Shooters. It's against his word in Leviticus 11:9-12. And worse, yet....I DIDN'T OFFER A MEAT SACRIFICE AFTER I ATE!!! OH GOD FORGIVE ME!!!

Good Christians, have you ever fallen into the terrible sin of eating seafood? If so, please please contact me, I need support. I don't want to go against God's word. Also, how do you find time to kill lambs every day to pay for your sins? GOD MUST HATE ME BECAUSE I ONLY DO IT TWICE A WEEK!!! There are more references to eating shellfish as a sinful act than homosexuality, so it REALLY must be a terrible thing!

OH GOD FORGIVE ME! I AM SO UNWORTHY OF YOUR GOODNESS! PRAISE YOU FATHER!

Bring all of God's law unto the heathens and the sodomites. We call upon all Christians to join the crusade against Long John Silver's and Red Lobster. Yea, even Popeye's shall be cleansed. The name of Bubba shall be anathema. We must stop the unbelievers from destroying the sanctity of our restaurants.

Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Deuteronomy 14:9-10 says:
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

Regarding some elements of God's Laws and how to follow them:

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev.21:20 states that I may ! not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of cloth. May we stone them - or simply burn them together with the farmland and clothing?

Anyone who believes that homosexuality is inherently wrong should be the ones who get's checked because bigotry is what's evil about this conversation. Homophobia is a hazzard to all who live in this world because homophobia is oppressing tolerance and acceptance to all of us who are different, either in perception or in fact. As for her son, good for him for being celibate but I can't decipher his sexual orientation based on accusations or perceptions. More importantly, who cares if he is or is not gay! I would hope his mother, a State Senator (a representative of America), would accept her son as God intended him to be. I know my parents accept me as how God intended me to be....and I'm gay.

Dear Mrs. Sally Kern,

I just wanted to let you know that I have heard what you said! I am completely in shock, though I shouldn't be, that you went on the tirade that you did about the "homosexual agenda" is ruining our country.

First off, I would like an explanation about what the homosexual agenda is? Being gay myself, I have no agenda other then to be apart of this society without fear of being beaten up or even killed for who I am. I did not choose to be gay. Why would any individual choose to be picked on, punched and ridiculed daily for simply for who they are? I did not choose to be gay, but I will celebrate it! If you would take a moment and please tell me what the agenda is so that I can fully understand the depth of your ignorance on this subject. If you are not gay, then how on earth would you understand how a gay person feels?? How dare you say that gays are infiltrating city councils! Gay people, just like any other groups of people, have every right to run and be elected for any office that they are qualified to be in! Substitute gay for black, Jew or any other group and you can see just how offensive your statements are! I don't know if you watch or catch the news, but I would like to point out two cases where people like you have truly hurt people. Though you did not cause these situations, your words heard by others make them feel that hurting gay people is okay! These two incidents are:

1) In Oxnard, CA, Lawrence King, a 15 year old student was shot to death. His alleged killer was also a student at the school. Lawrence simply asked the other student to be his Valentine. The next day, this child murder pulled a gun and shot Lawrence in front of other students then handed the gun to a teacher! All Lawrence did was be himself and now he is being buried! Do you truly think that this is okay?? I certainly hope not!!

2) In Fort Lauderdale, FL, Simmie Williams Jr was killed Feb. 23, 2008 was shot and killed simply and only because he was gay. The police are investigating the crime as a hate (read killed because he was gay) based on words that witnesses say were exchanged before the shooting! Killed simply because he was gay! Again I ask, do you think that this is okay?

Gay children all over this country are growing up in fear of their lives because of this "abnormal" hatred towards them! These two young men were killed simply because they were gay and for no other reason! I can not for the life of me understand why you decided to say that gays are more detrimental to this country than terrorism! Gay children are killed by terrorists every day simply for being who they are!

Again, though I doubt you will respond, what is the gay agenda? If it includes trying our hardest to stop these senseless acts from occurring, then yes, there is a gay agenda! Gay people do not want to "recruit" children. I, for one, have never once known another gay person to try to get children to come to the gay side! I am in a monogamous relationship with the same person for the past four and half years (longer then many straights have been married). We love each other, just as you and your husband Steve love each other! All we want to do is be able to rent or buy a home together and grow old together with the protection of laws on our side! We are not out here trying to break up your family, so why condemn me and my family??

I am saddened by your lack of understanding for what it truly means to be gay! I am a Christian, attend a Christian church, and in my church we are taught that God loves us for who we are. He will not turn us away because of what we wear, how much we own, or who we love! If all people are made in God's image, then I too, as a gay man, have been made in his image!

I only ask that you take the time out of your busy schedule to respond to me and what I have said! I hope that you realize that it is words that do inspire people to do things! Look at Hitler and what his words were able to compel people to do! Words do hurt, and just because you didn't pull the trigger, you haven't

Wow! Poor thing. His parents did a number on him. It all makes sense: his mother knew he was gay from a very early age, so instead of helping raise the most well adjusted son she could, she brow beat him with the Bible, made him think he was a pervert, he went to a Baptist college, confused, thinking that all gays were perverts, so he started acting like a pervert (just like Larry Craig), and now he's turned his back on the Baptist Church and has become a psychological mess. It's really unfortunate that people like Kern blame they gay children's troubles on homosexuality, when the reality is they could raise well adjusted gay children with dignity and a sense of self worth.

Just like straight people trying to pay the bills, braces on our kids teeth, dog's shots, property taxes, car tags, cutting grass, planting tomatoes and onion sets, getting to church as often as possible, working full time while in college again and paying over $3.00 a gallon for gas. When the Gay's aren't ou destroying people's reputations here is what they are really up to.

1972 Gay Rights Platform (Gay Legislative Agenda)

Demands:

Federal:

1. Amend all federal Civil Rights Acts, other legislation and government controls to prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and public services.
2. Issuance by the President of an executive order prohibiting the military from excluding for reasons of their sexual orientation, persons who of their own volition desire entrance into the Armed Services; and from issuing less-than-fully-honorable discharges for homosexuality; and the upgrading to fully honorable all such discharges previously issued, with retroactive benefits.
3. Issuance by the President of an executive order prohibiting discrimination in the federal civil service because of sexual orientation, in hiring and promoting; and prohibiting discriminations against homosexuals in security clearances.
4. Elimination of tax inequities victimizing single persons and same-sex couples.
5. Elimination of bars to the entry, immigration and naturalization of homosexual aliens.
6. Federal encouragement and support for sex education courses, prepared and taught by Gay women and men, presenting homosexuality as a valid, healthy preference and lifestyle as a viable alternative to heterosexuality.
7. Appropriate executive orders, regulations and legislation banning the compiling, maintenance and dissemination of information on an individual's sexual preferences, behavior, and social and political activities for dossiers and data banks.
8. Federal funding of aid programs of Gay men's and women's organizations designed to alleviate the problems encountered by Gay women and men which are engendered by an oppressive sexist society.
9. Immediate release of all Gay women and men now incarcerated in detention centers, prisons and mental institutions because of sexual offense charges relating to victimless crimes or sexual orientation; and that adequate compensation be made for the physical and mental duress encountered; and that all existing records relating to the incarceration be immediately expunged.

State:

1. All federal legislation and programs enumerated in Demands 1,6,7,8, and 9 above should be implemented at the State level where applicable.
2. Repeal of all state laws prohibiting private sexual acts involving consenting persons; equalization for homosexuals and heterosexuals for the enforcement of all laws.
3. Repeal all state laws prohibiting solicitation for private voluntary sexual liaisons; and laws prohibiting prostitution, both male and female.
4. Enactment of legislation prohibiting insurance companies and any other state-regulated enterprises from discriminating because of sexual orientation, in insurance and in bonding or any other prerequisite to employment or control of one's personal demesne.
5. Enactment of legislation so that child custody, adoption, visitation rights, foster parenting, and the like shall not be denied because of sexual orientation or marital status.
6. Repeal of all laws prohibiting transvestism and cross dressing.
7. Repeal of all laws governing the age of sexual consent.(What?)
8. Repeal of all legislative provisions that restrict the sex or number of persons entering into a marriage unit; and the extension of legal benefits to all persons who cohabit regardless of sex or numbers.

Why would anyone want to repeal the age of consent laws?

Why indeed!

It's the breeders that are ruining America. Why should my jobsite offer onsite daycare? If you're going to bring children into this world, stay at home and raise them. Do not, I repeat, do not drop them off at a daycare provider. It's your child, you raise him/her. Women should be barefoot and pregnant, and making a meal for the family, not running for office. If you can't afford to stay at home and raise you child, you shouldn't of got knocked up. It's your problem, not society's.
And why is it that so many "straight" people are cheating on their spouses? Breeders are to blame for the downfall of America.

What an ignorant woman! It's sad how people who claim they are Christians take Christian doctrine out of context and use it for their own agendas. We have more important things to address in the US than a few gay couples who want to marry. Let organized religion decide who can marry in their church and let the state decide who can marry. Marriage is only a contract granting property rights to each spouse. How same sex rights to property and insurance can bring the "downfall" of society is ludicrous.

The bill requires public schools to guarantee students the right to express thier Religious viewpoints in a public forum, in class, in home work and in other ways without being penalized. If a student`s religious beliefs were in conflict with scientific theory in response to an exam question, the student`s incorrect response would be deemed satisfactory, according to this bill.
the school would be required to reward the student with a good grade, or be considered in Violation of the law. even simple, factual information such as the age of the earth ( 4.65 Billion years ) would be subject to the student`s belief, and if the student answered 6,000 years based on his or her religious belief, the school would have to credit it as correct. science education becomes absurd under such situation.

I know many of you have been reading the hateful comments and just all out direct threats of violence posted on this message board and become discouraged, disheartened, sad, scared, etc. But to you I say, DO NOT GIVE UP!!! Although it may not seem so just by reading this page, but attitudes and opinions are changing every day and there is hope. But we need to keep the conversation going now more than ever. We cannot let this die without a fight and we need to continue to push both Kern and our own Representatives, Senators, and the Governor for action to be taken. I have seen first hand the violence that such bigotry can fuel. But I’ve also seen how leading by example can change the hearts of many that you may not expect. It is more important to embrace and befriend those who speak against us and we must remain aware that many of their opinions and beliefs are based on falsehoods and generalizations, but we cannot blame them for that as they just don’t know any better. Many of them have probably never come in contact with a gay person (at least not to their knowledge) and have seen only the images that are perpetrated by television and the media. We must continue to celebrate who we are and not allow the ignorance of others dictate what WE KNOW TO BE TRUE. And the truth is that love is love…period. And across the country, things are changing and when my generation takes over, things will change even faster. We are on the verge and we must not forget that…take a look at these posts again and focus on the fact that a very large majority of the hateful comments posted were, in fact, posted by the same handful of people over and over. Here's my letter that I sent to Ms. Kern:
------------------------------------------
Dear Ms. Kern:

Your educational profile show's you to have a B.A. degree in Sociology, which is defined as (because evidently you were not paying attention):

Sociology (from Latin: socius, "companion"; and the suffix -ology, "the study of", from Greek , lógos, "knowledge") is the scientific study of society, including patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture.

And you have had certification as a Teacher, no less!

You are a pathetic example of a human being, let alone an American citizen. And you should certainly not be a lawmaker. You may have a right as a private citizen to hold such bigotry in your heart, but I think your 'god' would be none too happy with the evil toward others that resides in that cold place.

There is no basis in SCIENCE for the ugly, vile and hateful comments that you so willingly shared with others. Homosexuality is nothing other than a SCIENTIFIC anomaly which occurs in a sizable percentage in virtually every species on our planet (please, read a science book).

Bigotry has no place in government and neither do you.

Very truly yours,

Bigotry and hatred most likely live in all of our hearts and it's our duty as Americans to stand up for and defend the disenfranchised and misunderstood whenever that evil rears its ugly head.

We even stand up for an inbred hillbilly's right to believe a book of fairy-tale nonsense, be it Harry Potter or another Book.

If God is looking down upon us, he or she is on our side of 'right and wrong', not some made up nonsense written by primitives to control their tribes that is has always been and continues to be used to defend and extend hatred.

And, by the way, I think God would be a little more concerned and angry with us for murdering over 700,000 Iraqis (besides killing just shy of 4,000 of our own soldiers and mutilating 100,000 of our own people) for a personal vendetta (Bush Jr's) and for oil. (and I lost my sister on September 11th, so I do fully read and investigate how far out of control our own country has strayed from the ideals of 'freedom and justice'.

Homosexuality is nothing more than a statistical anomaly which occurs in almost EVERY species on the planet! There's NO Mistake, it's just a VARIATION (not a deviation, which would indicate some sort of choice being involved).

The American Psychiatric Association REMOVED it from their list of disorders WAY BACK IN 1973!!! (that's 35 years ago for those that may be slow in math)

And the this week:
The American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) has issued a position statement supporting the legal recognition of same-sex civil marriage while opposing discrimination against same-sex couples.

No disease here, except mental issues from reading a Book written by primitives to control their tribes.
