Marine Corps reservist won't be charged in Midwest City flag rescue
By Associated Press

MIDWEST CITY -- A U.S. Marine Corps reservist won't be charged for ignoring police requests and wading into a protest to rescue an American Flag.
Ray Adam Modisette, 20, said he was reacting to a war protester who was stuffing an American flag down her pants.
Midwest City Assistant City Attorney Randal Homburg said he thinks there are grounds to prosecute Modisette for an act of civil disobedience, but he said that at the request of police, he's declining to file charges.
Modisette of Shawnee was arrested Friday afternoon on a complaint of interfering with official police process.
"We believe the act was emotional and not really deliberate," Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. "It caused us to take action, but we hated to have to do it."
Modisette was leaving Tinker Air Force Base in his car Friday when he saw the protester with the flag. He said he turned around and headed for the crowd to get the flag. He was handcuffed after ignoring several requests by officers to move away from the small group of demonstrators from Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan.

I wonder if these are the freaks who protest soldiers' funerals because the US "supports" gays?

Way to go Adam! So many of our own citizens disrespect the flag and the country it stands for. They assume it represents the governemnt or military, but that is untrue, it represents us as a whole. When these desecrations happen we should all be incensed at actions like those of the protester.
I think this is the same group that was in Wagoner, Oklahoma, last year and were walking on the American flag in protest to a fallen soldier during his funeral procession.
My personal opinion is that if you don't respect our flag, then you don't respect me and you should leave this country.

Yeah, those Westboro Baptist Church folks are the exact same who protest soldiers' funerals because of their hatred and bigotry. Apparently they don't see the irony in dishonoring the flag of a country that allows them free speech. In most of the other countries in the world, they would be arrested, prosecuted and potentially executed. At least this Marine certainly understands and appreciates that.

Mr. Modisette ( I apologize for not using your rank, it was not mentioned in the article) thank you for your continued service to our country. If the DA had attempted to prosecute, I doubt any jury would convict.

If they come and protest at our soldiers funerals and our military bases, why don't we protest at their services? If we let them do stuff like this then the government won't do anything about it, but if we let it known that we're not going to stand for it them maybe something will be done. More people like this Marine should stand up for our right. Our right to bury our soldiers with out their hatried making a painfull moment worse. Bless this Soldier and all the soldiers who are fighting for our rights

It seems that the Westboro church is no longer a church but a political action group. It therefore should lose it's tax-exempt church status. So should all it's employees.
We have a concept of "separation of church and state" in this country. The State doesn't try to run the church, and, in concert with the "golden rule" -- do unto others as you would have them do unto you, it would seen reasonable that the church not try to run the state. The government has done pretty well honoring its part of the tacit agreement. It's time the Westboro political action committee do the same.
The job of a church is to instill the moral values upon which we can base our own decisions. But, when the church begins to dictate those decisions rather than let us make them ourselves, it is stepping out of its roie as teacher and into the role ruler. It is this mentality that is causing so much unrest in the Middle East. The insurgents are just such people. A few "spiritual leaders," who, I'm certain believe they're right just as the leaders of the Westboro church and similar organizations in the US, have so failed at their jobs as "spiritual leaders" that they have set themselves up as political pundits. As such, they feel they have the right to dictate political actions -- and their followers are dumb enough to follow them.
We have another concept in this country -- treason.

Yes, these are the same freaks:
"...the small group of demonstrators from Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan."
This is the same group that protests funerals of our troops who are homosexual.
According to Wiki, the group also condemns the following:
"...lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people (LGBT), Roman Catholics, Muslims and Jews, as well as populations it believes are supporting the forementioned groups, including Swedes, Canadians, Irish, British, Mexicans and Americans."
Bravo, U.S. Marine Corps reservist Ray Adam Modisette!
A job well done!
You are a credit to your country!
People who disrespect the flag are lower than dirt.
People who protest outside a military base should be sent to Iran.
People from the Westboro Baptist Church would best be served if they all opted for euthanasia.
P.S. - I don't care if we have homosexuals in the military...if they are willing to lay down THEIR life to protect OUR freedom, I SUPPORT them.

These loons have been protesting funerals of gay people for several decades, screaming at the family members that their gay son / daughter / wife / husband is now burning in hell. They have been doing this for a very long time and have only received condemnation once they began protesting at soldiers' funerals (it is not just gay soldiers.. they protest any soldier's funeral because they feel that the US should be punished for "condoning" homosexuality).
What we need is a law that prevents protest at any funeral, regardless of who the deceased is.

How can you tell he's on the LEFT or RIGHT? I don't think that's the issue here. Stupid is stupid, and he is stupid.
Typical right-winger has our kids over there fighting and getting killed on a daily basis. But do they care how many come back in body bags? No. Just so long as it's not THEIR kids.

Actually, the sexual orientation of military personnel killed in Iraq has nothing to do with Fred Phelp's and his almost all Phelps clan membership Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka holding demonstrations at those military funerals.
--
In spite of the fact, that it is still illegal to be openly gay and even sexually active as a homosexual in the United States Military, Phelps' gang of cult of terrorists just got mad at being ignored by the local and national news media (newspapers and TV news shows) when holding demonstrations a funerals of those who died of HIV-AIDS and at Pride Celebrations; so, they decided to hold their anti-"f-a-g" demonstrations at non-civilian funerals instead.
--
They have held a lot of anti-gay demonstrations here in Tulsa since June 1998 when a former Oklahoma KKK leader turned Charismatic preacher invited Phelps and gang to come to Tulsa to protest the Tulsa Diversity Pride Celebration held at Veteran's Park.
--
Since then, they have also held demonstrations at churches in Tulsa, Jenks and Sand Springs. And they have picketed both the Sand Springs and Jenks High Schools. They held a demonstration in front of Wal-Mart across from the ORU Mabee Center when Jenks High School had its commencement there because a boy being graduated was openly gay. All of those demonstrations made the news in Washington, DC and elsewhere, but Tulsa's news folks completely ignored them.
--
One of the signs they held up when they were at Oral Roberts University said, (using spelled out word here) "ORU F-A-G University."

The US Code for the Flag does not cover stuffing the American Flag down into one's pants.
. . . . But, it states that the USA Flag must not be printed or sown onto an article of clothing worn by non-federal government employees. Only certain federal employees who wear uniforms may officially have a flag sewn onto the top of a sleeve on the uniform.
. . . . It also states that civilians can only wear Flag lapel pins on their clothing.
. . . . And any American flag put on a vehicle must be on a staff attached to the right front fender and nowhere else on the vehicle.
--
Added note here: The Westboro Baptist Church even has a "godhatesamerica dot com" website. Just change the word "dot" to a period and omit the spaces on each side of the period.
--
It is most of the Fred Phelps family who hate America. There needs to be a way to deport them.
--
The State and local goverments have not created any laws which will prevent the Phelps terrorists from holding demonstrations at locations where no military funerals take place.

Thank you, Mr. Modisette, for defending the American Flag!
The fact that you defended it from the loonies at the Westboro Baptist Church is just the icing on the cake!
Thank God for the U.S. Marines and the rest of our armed forces!
