Planned Parenthood fundraiser to feature karaoke, cocktails
By Staff Reports

In case you needed a reason to have a midweek cocktail, Planned Parenthood is offering you one.
"Cocktails for the Cause: Karaoke and Condoms," a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Club 209, 209 N. Boulder Ave.
In addition to signing up to sing your favorite karaoke song, the event will showcase a new safe-sex fashion statement: Proper Attire, a new line of prophylactics designed to encourage women to feel more comfortable carrying and buying condoms.
"Some women are embar rassed to purchase and carry condoms," said Nancy Kachel, president/CEO of PPAEO, in a recent release about Proper Attire. "With its trendy feel and fashionable packaging, women have the opportunity to be both safer and fashionable." Available in a three-pack for $6, Proper Attire will be sold at boutique shops and exclusive hotels.
Admission for "Cocktails for the Cause" is $25 per person, which includes two drinks, karaoke, snacks and door prizes.
For more information, call Club 209 at 584-9944. And for information on ordering Proper Attire in Tulsa, call Planned Parenthood at 587-1101.

Planned Parenthood is a good idea, but doesn't seem to reach the teens, those who need it most!

I agree Tony, although the problem is they are not really allowed to reach the teens directly. Can't contact them in the schools, but PP does a good job trying to get their names places the kids go.
They are a remarkable organization.

nothing like raising money to plan to kill more unborn babies. the tulsa world acts like there is a reward for how many unborn babies they can get killed.

FOUNDER OF PLANNED PARENT HOOD
MARGARET SANGER
Eugenics and euthanasia
Sanger was a proponent of eugenics, a social philosophy that gained strong support in the United States in the early 20th century. The philosophy claimed that human hereditary traits can be improved through social intervention. Methods of social intervention (targeted at those seen as "genetically unfit") advocated by eugenists have included selective breeding, sterilization and euthanasia. In "A Plan for Peace" (1932), for example, Sanger argued for:
A stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.[13]
Sanger promoted the idea of "race hygiene" through "negative eugenics," an attempt to reduce the fertility of "dysgenic" groups. Sanger considered the unchecked multiplication of the "unfit" to be "the greatest present menace to civilization."[14] She suggested Congress set up a special department to study population problems and appoint a "Parliament of Population." One of the main objectives of the "Population Congress" would be "to raise the level and increase the general intelligence of population."[15]
Sanger saw birth control as a means to prevent "dysgenic" children from being born into a disadvantaged life,

That's a neat venue, b/c if a few guys & gals hookup after a few drinks and someone accidentally gets pregnant, they/she can get a quick abortion referral from Planned Parenthood. God bless PP and all the wonderful work they do.

Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect society where parents educate their teens about sex. I'm glad Planned Parenthood is available to young people who don't have as many options.

C'mon everyone. PP is much more than this. It's a needed educational organization that's definitely helping our community. Stop with the stupid anonymous remarks.

SHAMR AND DECENT MOROLS
, (4/2/2008 2:52:47 PM)
You stupid people. Education is NOT the answer.
Bring back some decent morols to this country and some shame, that is when you will see a difference in the unwed pregnancy rate.
Handing out condoms?????
You have got to be out of your mind.
Teach these women that it is wrong and a sin to have sex out pf wedlock. Old fashioned??? You bet your sweet biddy it is, BUT IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!

I beg to differ. While teaching morals and advocating abstinence is always a good idea, if you look at the stats on it, it's not working. Schools that teach abstinence only programs are not seeing a decrease in the promiscuity in their schools. It's ignorant to assume that everyone that is having sex is "stupid" and "sinning." Also, Planned Parenthood is not simply an organization that passes out free condoms and gives abortions. If you actually looked into the work that they do in the community, you would realize that you are sadly mistaken and that Planned Parenthood benefits everyone, not to mention one of their biggest programs is family planning aka advocating for sex and pregnancy AFTER marriage. Please people, check out your facts before you start bashing a helpful organization in our community. What have YOU done lately to help out?
