OKLAHOMA CITY -- More than 1,000 supporters of state Rep. Sally Kern cheered on the outspoken critic of homosexuality Wednesday at the state Capitol.

Kern said she stands by her remarks, noting that God loves all people, regardless of their sins. She said the problem is when sinners do not strive to change, although she did not directly refer to homosexuals.

"Let me tell you why I will not and cannot apologize for my comments," said Kern. "First, I believe God's word. When God calls something a sin, then that tells us it's a sin."

Kern, who spoke for about 10 minutes, used the word God more than 20 times during the Christian "Rally for Sally."

The event opened and closed with a prayer and the crowd occasionally answering "amen" when Kern and others spoke.

Kern has been criticized nationally after remarks she made in January stating that homosexuality is a greater threat to the United States than terrorism and Islam.

Her comments made to a group of Republicans were recorded without Kern's knowledge and then posted on the Web site YouTube. The remarks prompted criticism from gay and lesbian groups across the country.

The rally was organized to show the lawmaker she had supporters like the Oklahoma Family Policy Council.

Kern became tearful during her speech, saying she, too, was a sinner and had a hard time believing supporters' compliments that she was being brave and courageous.

Power to the heterosexauls; it is about time we stood up for our rights!

Really? There are only 1000 homophobic people in Oklahoma (or OKC)? I thought it was the 'open-minded' person who was in the minority. Regardless of what she thinks personally, she should not have made those comments out loud and as a representative of MY state. If she wants to spew hatred at her own dinner table, that's her prerogative, but Sally Kern has no right to speak as though she's speaking for Oklahoma. She's really only speaking to her own ignorance and homophobia.

What rights, Diane? The right to marry, have children (adopted or otherwise), share health insurance? I don't know a time when heterosexuals have NOT stood up for (and rightfully demanded) their rights. Only now, the rest of the people are standing up for their rights too. A person who happens to be a homosexual is born, not made (who would choose such a hard life), and nothing they do infringes upon your 'rights.'

You'd feel differently if the state (and it's representatives) came to your house and told you how you lived YOUR life is wrong. You'd demand that you had rights, as you should. Why are homosexuals any different?

#1, what exactly are the rights you are standing up for?

The right to make boneheaded remarks like gay folks being more dangerous than terrorists?

The right for 1000 knuckleheads to be in one place to support their knucklehead hero?

Good lord why are you people so scared of gay folks?

Homophobia? I don't know about everyone else, but I have nothing to fear from homosexuals or their lifestyle. Just because I believe homosexuality to be immoral and against nature does not make me fear homosexuals. Just because I agree that the homosexual agenda is a credible threat to the fabric of society does not make me afraid of homosexuals. Nor does it make me a bigot or a hate-monger. I have friends and relatives who are homosexual and we are free to disagree with each other.

What I DO fear, hence my moniker, is the virulent, venomous, hate-filled, liberal minority backlash that I know I will get for daring to suggest that the WASP-Hetero-Male actually has value and a voice!

Its great when one person can say such bad things about one group of people and have a rally to support it. I think the Nazis did the same thing with Hitler.

Only in backwards Oklahoma.

1000 is nothing compared to the millions of emails and voice mails this thing got from normal folks who are anti hate pro american. What is pro american....you know that every body... white, black, christian, jew, islam, homo, hetro, female, male. Pro american has no face religion or social lifestyle. It's all about Choice. The issue of abortion is lies on the same venue. I'm against it; however, what my neighbor does is her business. And if she choose to do it, it should be done on her nickel. Same with this Kern biz...she should be using her own funds to protect her family from the crazies not my taxes for hired guns.

Kern is a representative of the people in her district...she has her opinions like the rest of us... however, she shouldn't abuse her office for personal platform. Shame on her costing oklahoman taxpayers $$ for extra security in addition to the lawsuits she is incurring from this fiasco.

And what exactly is the AGENDA of the 1,000 people who went to the capitol today? (I'm anxious to hear the news reports as I'm sure not all 1,000 are there to support Oklahoma's answer to Adolf Hitler.)

Why is it that Sally has her panties in a bunch over "the gay agenda?" So gay people offer financial support to the political candidates of their choice. What's the big deal? There's not a politician in the U.S. who has not received $$$ from one group or another. The gun lobby, pharmaceutical companies, auto makers, even the religious right ... THEY all financially support the candidates of THEIR choice. Why shouldn't gay people do the same thing?

Why doesn't Sally Kern do some REAL work? Isn't that what we're paying her to do? She's an international embarrassment!

I can't wait until the next election when it'll be "So long, Sally!"

If you read the report, it says "more than a thousand."

Took time off from their jobs? My guess is that they don't have any to begin with. Perhaps if Sally Kern would work on REAL issues like unemployment instead of fantasizing about gay terrorists, they would have jobs!

There is no proof that Hitler was gay. There is some question as to whether or not he was bi-sexual. Get your facts straight before spouting off.

Hahahahaha, number 11 is priceless! It sounds like a facetious comment, but I guess in Oklahoma you can never tell, haha. However, if it is serious, as a "liberal elitist" I obviously disagree. Gays are not a threat and should have full and equal rights and women should have equal rights to men, including serving in public office. However, if Ms. Kern wishes to be a true and consistent Christian, she should resign and return to the home, her right to choose not to notwithstanding.
