TU wins inaugural tourney
Performing before a raucous Reynolds Center crowd, the University of Tulsa basketball team defeated Bradley in the decisive game of the College Basketball Invitational's best-of-three final series.
Ben Uzoh scored 17 points and Jerome Jordan totaled 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Golden Hurricane prevailed 70-64.
The game was witnessed by a standing-room-only audience of 8,455. It was the 40th sellout in the 10-season history of the Reynolds Center. When the final buzzer sounded, TU students stormed onto the court.
TU rallied from a 16-2 deficit and trailed 34-28 at halftime.
With 14:42 left to play, TU took its first lead of the game when Uzoh drove the baseline for a layup that barely beat the shot-clock buzzer. With 2:24 remaining, Hurricane guard Rod Earls gave his team the lead for good, connecting on a left-corner 3-pointer that made it 60-59.
Capping his third season as the Hurricane coach, Doug Wojcik directed 25-14 TU to 15 victories in its last 19 games.
The CBI championship is TU's third postseason tournament title. The Golden Hurricane captured the NIT championship in 1981 and 2001.

We are so proud of our Hurricane! We've been so close all year - all their hard work and commitment have paid off. It's a tribute to our good kids - they are great kids, wonderful student atheletes! Love it!

After the 65 NCAA touney teams and the 48 NIT teams, TU's hard work finally pays off. They will always be remembered as the first team to win the CBI and the next trivia question will be "What is the CBI?"

I don't know why anyone would bash TU for winning this tournament. I can only assume they are OU or OSU fans, but I am an OU fan and still chear for TU. TU is no threat to OU or TU, so why be down on them? Making fun of TU or chearing against them is kind of like making fun of kids with down syndrome.

I am an OU grad and avid OU fan but I was born and raised in Tulsa and wanted to go to TU but instead went to OU and I love watching Tulsa Football and basketball. This basketball team journeyed a long ways this year to be champs of anything and the last time I checked only three teams finish the year with a win and TU is one of them. Way to go Hurricane and I'll bet next year you go to the NCAA.

Congrats to the Golden Hurricane! This is a strong victory for Tulsa basketball and part of Oklahoma college basketball as a whole becoming stronger and stronger.

#98????? Only 40 teams won 25 or more games this year. Even if the CBI faulters, years from now seeing 25 wins will be all that matters. It will look as good then as it does now. Congrats TU! (From an avid OU fan)

Congratulations to the Golden Hurricane! I'm one of the many OSU fans and alumni who appreciate good sports in Oklahoma, regardless of who's playing. I see a bright future ahead for TU. Way to go!

I'm not quite sure what angle to take with that one. There's an obvious joke there.

Most of the fans of college and university sports teams have never even been to school beyond high school. No college or university was ever started solely for the purpose of having intercollegiate sports teams.
--
These fanatics who claim to support college sports teams are usually not even interested in what really goes on in the academic areas of those colleges and universities.
--
I have listened to team members of college/university teams who talk like they haven't even attended high school and don't even have a very good command of Standard American English.

Oh boy. I can hardly wait to see the responses to that last one. Where did that come from?
Good job, TU! I'm glad there was a full house for the game.

Onomatopoeia obviously loves putting down kids and their accomplishments. Hopefully he has none of his own and has no plans of having any. I would feel sorry for any kids of his...

#12 - You write like you are an educated person, but if some of your statements reflect your true beliefs, maybe not. And this is written by a TU alum who is ALSO a sports fanatic.

Oh, it's okay to be a fanatic of your alma mater. I am not against collegiate sports. When I was in both undergraduate and graduate school, I did attend most of the football and basketball games and that was mostly because I had friends who played on those teams.

Yes, I have a BA in Education and a MEd from Northeastern State in Tahlequah. I even taught in public schools for several years.

Who's the loser Kevin, a bunch of teams that want to keep playing or someone like you who leads such an insignificant life that the only way you can feel good about yourself is to try to minimize a fine accomplishment by a great group of student athletes? You sir are the loser.
