Staff Sgt. Jason Brown's father is from Cartwright.

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- An Army Special Forces soldier with Oklahoma ties was killed by a burst of small-arms fire while trying to capture an al-Qaida leader in an Iraq town, the military said.

Staff Sgt. Jason L. Brown, 29, was killed early Thursday during a combat operation in Sama Village.

Brown of Magnolia, Texas, was a Special Forces engineer sergeant assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, an Army post along the Kentucky-Tennessee border.

Brown was killed instantly by small-arms fire while attempting to enter a building during an operation to capture an al-Qaida leader in the village, according to a release from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

Brown enlisted in the Army in 2003 and was on his second combat tour when he died, the release said.

Brown is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Gomez, of Cypress, Texas; his mother, Rosemary, and his father, James, of Cartwright, Okla.

It breakes my heart every time i hear about another life lost and the heartache that the families and loved ones are having to deal with in this war that is so wrong and uncalled for. You might say well, our soldiers have volunteered to fight, yes they volunteered to defend this country, but not to fight the kind of war that our leaders have ordered them to fight. I, myself have a husband serving in Iraq with the Oklahoma National Guard. I pray daily for the soldiers and their families. I do not agree with this war or anything about it, but I fully support our troops and their families. I am so tired of being lied to by this country's leaders. I just hope that soon our country will have leaders who are not afraid to do what is right and good for our country, who do not go into office with their own agenda, but realize they were elected to serve the people. It just concerns me to think that maybe there are no more people like that in this day and age.

Has Saddam been "disarmed" yet? That was the stated objective... right? So US troops can quit the illegal occupation and claim victory. God forbid their ego's get bruised or anything.
