Approximately 250 vials of illegal
steroids and human growth hormone linked to a south Tulsa fitness
center and its owner have been
seized in an ongoing drug investigation.
Since December 2007, state and
local undercover officers have investigated widespread steroid use and
distribution at a fitness center formerly known as Physical Edge, 6339
E. 71st St., according to court records filed late last week.
The fitness center recently
changed ownership and is now
known as Hi Octane.
Its owner, Chris Goodman of Broken Arrow, has been named by undercover officers as a major steroid, human growth hormone and performance enhancement drug distributor in the Tulsa area, according to
court records.
Before purchasing the fitness center, Goodman was a member of
Physical Edge.
He is also co-owner of Supplement
Shak stores in Oklahoma City and
south Tulsa. The Tulsa store was
searched in connection to the steroid distribution investigation, court
records indicate.
Efforts to contact Goodman at the
fitness center and the Tulsa store
were unsuccessful Saturday.
Undercover officers have discovered evidence of steroid use at the
fitness center and distribution by either Goodman or other members at
the fitness center, according to court records.
That evidence includes syringes,
bank statements, computer software, cell phone records and financial records belonging to either
Goodman or the fitness center.
A confidential informant has told
undercover officers that Goodman
was "actively distributing steroids"
and that "individuals associated with
Physical Edge often use and/or distribute steroids," according to court
records.
Another man allegedly connected
to steroid use and distribution with
ties to Goodman and Physical Edge
is Keith Koppenhaver, also of Broken Arrow, according to court records.
He has worked as a personal trainer at Physical Edge and is a close friend of Goodman, undercover officers said in court records.
Undercover officers seized several types of steroids, human growth
hormone, insulin and other dangerous, controlled substances from
Koppenhaver's home or property,
according to court records.
He has admitted to undercover officers that he sold steroids and never pays taxes from those sales or the
money that he receives as a personal trainer, according to court records.
He has identified Goodman and a
professional bodybuilder in the
Oklahoma City area as his steroid
suppliers, according to court records.
Efforts to contact Koppenhaver also were unsuccessful Saturday.
Goodman and Koppenhaver are
the most recent people identified in
an ongoing investigation of steroid
distribution in the Tulsa area.
Steroids and human growth hormone have also been seized from
the home of professional bodybuilder Guy Ducasse of Tulsa, according
to court records.
On Friday, Mark Woodward, a
spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous
Drugs Control office in Oklahoma
City, said no arrests have been made
because the investigation is ongoing.
Multiple arrests could be made
within a week, he said.
