Cheney says war on terror is on right track

Vice President Dick Cheney said the Bush administration has left the U.S. better off during a speech Friday in Tulsa. Stephen Holman/Tulsa World

The U.S. is on track in Iraq and Afghanistan, the answer to higher gasoline prices is more oil wells and more refineries, and America and the world are better for the George W. Bush presidency, Vice President Dick Cheney told Oklahoma Republicans Friday evening at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

"When the history is written, it will be said this is a safer country and more hopeful world because George Bush was president," Chaney said.

The vice president spoke for about 20 minutes during a kickoff banquet for the Oklahoma Republican Convention. The biggest portion of the speech dealt with Iraq, Afghanistan and terrorism.

"Our strategy is the right strategy," he said. "The only way we can lose is to quit."

About 35 protestors gathered at the corner of Second Street and Boulder Avenue, about a block from the hotel entrance.

After staging a mock war crimes trial and chanting "Impeach Cheney" for several minutes, protestors ended their demonstration by walking past police barricades toward the hotel.

Seven protestors were cited, but no one was arrested.

In my opinion, Dick Cheney is a war-mongering terrorist.

People would have thought this about the Vietnam War: ""When the history is written, it will be said this is a safer country and more hopeful world because John and Nixon were US Presidents."

Our safety in the USA has no connection with Bush's and Cheney's Iraqi war. We lost that war before we even started it!

Start a war that will never end and of course, the only way you lose is leave.... Come on people!!!! The three sects in Iraq hate each other and always will. Mark my word, we will either never leave and our troops will always be getting killed or when we leave, within six-months they will be killing each other in a dirty civil war!!!!!

Wake up people!!! You have been duped !!!

The ONLY reason bush was re-elected in 2004 was the brilliant
strategy by karl rove to instill fear into the American people.
And, enough of them took the bate – hook line and sinker.

Rove over exaggerated the idea that gay marriage was going to be
legal in the USA. The fearful and religious zealots bought into it.

It is not odd that we have heard NOTHING about gay marriage
since the 2004 election.

The only plan that Cheney had is on track and that is the blood of our soldiers making him huge profits from oil.
I hope I live to see the day when him and GW are brought up on war crimes.

Since it is no longer illegal to be openly gay in the United States (and no longer illegal to have in-private same-gender consensual sexual activity, too) and all law-abiding Adult American Citizens are supposed to have equal rights under the law of the United States Constitution, it is actually unconstitutional to deny equal marriage rights to gay and lesbian couples who want to be legally married.

It's still amazing how the American people bought that tiny Iraq was a threat to us after United Nations inspectors and spy satelites searched for months for wmds and found none. The invasion of Iraq was bloody murder!

I wonder why "Tricky Dicky" came to Tulsa, must be something connected to OIL.

Dicky's no different than you or I, he wants as much as he can put his arms around. Trouble is, we elected him & "the Moron" to be our leaders. Both of those scoundrels are in the "oil business", our BAD!

Terrorism is NOT being restrained, Terrorism is being PACIFIED. When the newspaper's are full of thousands of terrorist's obituaries, Terrorism is being restrained. Those culprits are right here in the USA, right here among us. When they are given orders to do their jobs, life will be very bad in America.

If we were really "AT WAR", Terrorists would be rounded up & put into "Intern camps", just as the Japanese were...

Cheney & Dubya couldn't invent the USA, even with all of their servants. They grew up in America & thrived, but they have no clue what that idea was about.

Dick Cheney has a daughter who is openly gay and in a committed relationship with another woman who is a lesbian. She is the biological mother of a boy, too.

Richard Nixon was called "Tricky Dick," too. It is a play on the nickname "Dick." It has no connection with male sexual anatomy. A Tricky Dick is a person with the name Richard who cannot be trusted because of his tricks.

Karl Rove is the architect of all that ails us, and Dick Cheney's Haliburton funds the architecture.

01-20-09 can't come soon enough; Cheney and his ilk will be history but history will hopefully be honest about him and them. It won't be pretty. But neither will the next 100 years if McCain is elected; he'll be directinr our war policy from the grave, since he's so excited about another 50 or 100 years in Iraq, while Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Ladn fester in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I wouldn't be surprised if Halliburton, Cheney's official former employer for whom he was the CEO, gives Cheney all the money (after January 19, 2009) he would have received as his regular salary if he had not become Vice President.

Halliburton is making a humongous profit from the war.

#16 YO Joe, YES Dick Cheney will get all of his money from Halliburton the day he leaves the White House. He has a "Deferred Compensation Plan" that pays him his full salary (which was guaranteed no matter what happens) and any Bonus's or Profit Sharing. He'll be a very, very, very rich man it's just too bad he earned it with the Blood of Our Soldiers.

I would say and I have said, "George W. Bush is a 'Muppet' type puppet controlled by the Bush Adminstration and one of his controllers is Dick Cheney.

Bush can't speak unless someone puts words in his mouth (or in his ear or on a printed page). I would like to see him hold an impromptu press conference where he did not know in advance what the questions would be. I have noticed that he stutters a lot recently. Jon Stewart of the "Daily Show" has noticed that, too.

The simple fact is the war in Iraq was not authorized by the United Nations - it is a war of aggression. Cheney and Bush are war criminals for this. They have also admitted to authorizing torture. The Unisted States is now considered the greatest threat to world peace among a majority of the worlds citizens. The only way to restore the image of our country is to uphold the rule of law; this administration must be impeached and then sent to the Hague for trial.
