Slaying of girls shocks town
The two were shot after going for a walk Sunday, the Okfuskee County sheriff said.

The two were shot after going for a walk Sunday, the Okfuskee County sheriff said.
WELEETKA — The slayings of two girls along a rural road near here has left Okfuskee County Sheriff Jack Choate Sr. searching for answers.
The bodies of Taylor Dawn Paschal-Placker, 13, and Skyla Jade Whittaker, 11, were found Sunday afternoon along County Line Road, which separates Okfuskee and Okmulgee counties. They had been shot.
"What reason could a person have to kill an 11- and 13-year-old girl?" Choate asked. "There's no reason for that."
"For any kid like that, any child, it's such a needless waste" of life.
No one has been arrested in connection with the deaths.
By Monday afternoon, residents were leaving flowers and other mementoes as a makeshift memorial to the girls at the site where their bodies were found.
The longtime friends lived in the outskirts of Weleetka, more than two miles northeast of the city. They attended the rural Graham school district, Choate said.
Their bodies were found along the west side of County Line Road, about three-fourths of a mile north of Coleman Road, the sheriff said.
Each girl had been shot several times.
Choate said the girls' bodies were found by Taylor's father, who had gone looking for the pair.
However, family members told The Associated Press it was Taylor's grandfather, Peter Placker, who found the bodies.
Choate said the Okmulgee County Sheriff's
Office contacted his department shortly after 4 p.m. after receiving a 911 call.
Skyla was visiting the Placker home when the girls decided to go for a walk "as they often did," Choate said. Their bodies were found about 30 minutes later.
According to Choate, Skyla's mother called the Placker home and said she would drop by to pick up her daughter.
At that point, the sheriff said, Taylor's family went looking for the girls, and their bodies were found about one-fourth of a mile north of the home.
"I can't describe coming up on it," a sobbing Peter Placker told the AP as he tried to remember walking up on the scene. "I did it once, and I can't do it again."
Skyla was the carefree adventurer, the girl who walked barefoot almost everywhere and rode her bicycle down endless dirt roads, said her grandmother, Claudia Farrow. Where she went, her many cats followed, along with her pet goat. Skyla wanted to become a veterinarian, Farrow said.
Taylor was a big-hearted girl who rescued helpless turtles crawling in the middle of the road and wanted to become a forensic scientist, like on the TV shows, said Peter Placker, who said he raised Taylor like she was his daughter even though he was her biological grandparent.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called in for help in the case. Choate said authorities combed County Line Road for evidence Sunday and again on Monday.
The sheriff said some clues have been found and that his office has come up with possible suspects. He would not elaborate on any evidence found, nor would he say how many suspects are involved.
Choate said authorities still are trying to determine if the girls were killed by someone driving a car along the road "or whether someone just walked out of the woods and shot them."
"We're not eliminating anything at this point," he said, as the OSBI and his deputies continued their search for more clues or possible witnesses.
Choate asked that anyone with information call his office at (918) 623-1122 or the OSBI at 1-800-522-8017.
Their killings have shocked much of the area's residents, he said.
"Murders are rare in this county," Choate said, noting the last homicide there occurred nearly three years ago.

To the familys of these two little girls I am so very sorry for your loss and I so hope they find who did this so not only you can have the answers but the whole world, we so need to get people like this caught and put away so they can not hurt anyone else like this...

i am sorry for the parents and families of these little girls.
there is no excuse for this.
the problem is deaths have been reported numerous times
past bixby and kiefer in counties along i75 and i40.
related, i do not know. muskogee, leonard mountin.
every day, no, one a year is too many.
drugs are bad down there the dea and osbi burn marijuana
every year.
a small town, a small school. two girls not bothering anyone.
it sounds a lot like two little boys in arkansas mentioned in the
book the clinton chronicles. they were found on a railroad track.
the parents deserve anwsers, so does this state and community.
people pull off dirt roads all the time off main highway,
spiit up drugs, illegals, i hope it is not that. this has gone on
for over 20 years. close to county lines, each county says the
other is in charge.
there is no excuse for this. children cannot walk in rural
oklahoma. there is no excuse for drugs or gangs either.
i hope they find out what happened.

Stories like this kill me. I feel so badly for the family. This is senseless and a complete tragedy.
As liberal as I may be, this is one of those times when I call for vigilant justice.

This is so horrible. I feel so terribly for this family. More and more, it seems there are sickos in our society who have absolutely NO regard for human life. There were some random shootings North of there on 75 hwy about 2 months ago. Someone was taking potshots at vehicles as they drove by on the highway. I wonder if this is related? Absolutely terrible. Our prayers go out to these families.

Sounds like violent video games and easy access to hand guns may be what happened here. People living in a dream world where they can squeeze off a couple of rounds into to innocent people without even thinking. Their repeated killing training has worked wonders.
God help their families and God help us stop this horrible problem.

Fred .... your comments don't hold water. There are a lot of people that play video games, even violent video games and they don't commit crimes, also people kill people, guns don't kill people.
I find it odd how people blame the government, guns, religion, etc. for the reasons of people killing other people. The blame should go to the people that do the killings. Every person is responsible for their own actions.
My condolences to the families of these beautiful young girls.

First of this is a tragedy 2 innocent girls killed long before they even began to live. Mar, some has to load bullets into a gun put it in their hand and squeeze the trigger so it is people who kill people. The gun does not fire on its own. Oh you also have to aim the gun at your target. Do the guns in a gun store start shooting at you when you walk in. Now don't take it the wrong way, Japan has tough gun laws and look what happened there some sick person drove his car into a crowd of people and got out and started stabbing people. We do need some kind of to have people to get a license to own a gun after all you need a license to get married, you have register your car get a license for the car and to drive it, you get a license to fish and hunt you need to a license for almost everything except to own a gun something is wrong here. I do know you need a license to carry a concealed weapon that is the only type of gun law in this country.

Folks,
the law has some suspects...note that the girls were shot multiple times. Shootings like this suggest to me that it was 'gang' related or 'hate' related. My feel on this one is that they saw something that they shouldn't have and that they knew the shooter.
Also, as for the 'gun stuff' posted here...yesterday, a four year old shot herself in chest at a Sam Club with gun found in grandmother's purse...grandmother had a concealed handgun license....
Go figure
I couldn't live with myself on that one...

Sarge, did you actually 'read' what you typed before you hit 'submit'? Maybe you should from now on. Your comments appear to be directed at Mar, yet Mar was trying to tell Fred the same thing you said, only in a more precise, TO THE POINT, manner.
As Mar said, I agree, guns don't kill people, people do. Fred, not every gun toting criminal has access to or has played violent video games. Video games are a form of entertainment (albeit some are poor sources of 'entertainment' at that) but people make their own choices, video game or not, if they're going to kill someone they sure don't need a video game to show them how it's done. Murderers wandered the streets many decades before video games were ever even thought of...what's their excuse?
Whomever killed those little girls doesn't deserve to live either. I hope they're found and punished severly. This is a situation where I believe in "an eye for an eye".

South Carolina: a four-year-old girl shot herself in the chest after snatching her grandmother's handgun from the woman's purse while riding in a shopping cart at Sam's Club.
I think this tells us what we the people have become. Wonder how many Grandmas and others are "packen iron".
To convict the ones that done this is another matter. If you get a "Califonia type Judge" and a slick attourney this could go on for years. Then to find a jury that will convict (that be the case) is another up hill battle. We tend to cry and wring our hands but do little to make our neighborhood and country safe. look at what happened when Texas Child Protection Services was protecting thoes children at that compond. The Judges said that only 5 girls were being sexually abused.

Okie3, my thoughts exactly. I, too, live in rural Oklahoma, and if I were to hear multiple gun shots, especially when it isn't deer season, I would immediately be concerned for my neighbors and for domestic animals. Unless that was an awfully small caliber gun or had a silencer, somebody should have heard something in a 1/4 mile range--even in rural Oklahoma, there are usually a lot of houses in a 1/4 mile range--and, therefore, somebody should have noticed something. Hopefully, somebody did.

I am convinced the killer is someone local and someone most people know.
The police need to ask local teens who are the weirdos in that area.

My prayers go out to the family members of these two beautiful, innocent, young girls.
It made me sick when I heard that there was another double homicide. My 24 year old niece and 7 month old great-niece were brutally murdered on June 23, 2007.
My great-niece's name was Kya Jade Whitaker and when I read the name of Skyla Jade Whittaker it broke my heart. Those names are not common.
Today is one year since I saw both, Brooke and Kya and the grief is worse now than ever. I never would have imagined last year on June 12th, 2007,when I finished eating dinner with Brooke, Kya and several family members it would be the last time I would ever get to see them and tell them I loved them.
I hope and pray that the person who did this is found and justice is served.
God Bless these two families.

Whoever did this -- the law will be able to identify you because of your animal like appearance -- though I would guess you are a lesser spieces than an animal. When you are found, tried in a court of law, and convicted, my greatest hope for you is that you are put in the most horrendous prison in the United States, with your cell door permanently locked and the key thrown away. There is no mercy for your kind, save that which the Lord gives. You will suffer for the rest of your days on this earth for what you have done to these poor girls. No one has the right to snuff out the life of anyone else just because you feel like it!! To the perpetrator(s), you are the very definition of coward and inhuman. Enjoy your final moments of freedom, the four walls of your jail cell are waiting for you.

It should be obvious. They were being molested by someone they knew (parent, guardian, baby sitter, neighbor) and that person paniced and killed them.
They were not shot, they were executed with shots to the head and chest. Whoever did this got close, they knew him, he shot them in the chest, then as they were down shot them in the head to kill them.
It was not a random crime, it was a murder to cover up sexual abuse and I want that person dead.

Requiescat in pace, gentle ones.
What went wrong? A drug deal interrupted, obviously--the killers then feared exposure as they were known to the girls. But there's another possibility: on a relatively isolated road, the girls may have distrubed a tryst--possibly a homosexual one--involving prominent residents of the area who would do anything rather than face exposure.
Of course, there is the angle covered by other posters--the molestation possibility, in which case the killings were not happenstance but planned with inside information.

hey Tex- please don't blame the family for not being there to walk the girls down the road. These girls were old enough to be out walking on a country road near their home- I mean we all have done it.
I live in the country and many times my kids walked to the lake near our home....when they were about this age. I used to walk the same country roads when I was their age. Evil can lirk anywhere. We can't make our children prisoners..............these people will have to live with this forever..but they are not responsible for someone else's evil deed. Our children are kidnapped/killed at their homes, at school, at the local mall etc. we cannot predict where evil will strike.
Also, we shouldn't be so quick to spout off scenarios....we don't know what happened. It has been said they were apparently not molested. To start throwing wild accusations around doesn't help anyone. The police will need to investigate..they know things we don't. Sometimes people do things without any reason other than they are unfeeling and hateful people. Until we know the whole story we shouldnt make this harder for the family of these little girls.
May God hold them in the palm of his hand. May they have peace and justice.

It is not unusual for children to walk down roads in remote Oklahoma and other states.
