OKLAHOMA CITY — Attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service want Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart jailed and fined for failing to cooperate in an ongoing investigation.

The agency is asking a federal judge in Oklahoma City to hold Rinehart in civil contempt of court because he has refused to provide documents and testimony in the probe.

Rinehart maintains he has produced everything requested of him. He also has argued he should not have to answer IRS agent's questions because his answers might incriminate him.

In a separate matter, Rinehart is awaiting trial in Oklahoma County District Court on campaign finance charges.

Like Tulsa County, it sounds like Oklahoma County could do a better job of picking County Commissioners.

Mr Rinehart has every right to withhold the documents the IRS wants if he takes the position that the documents might subject him to criminal prosecution. And the IRS has every right to disallow all the deductions that Mr. Rinehart can't (or won't) support.

And Oklahoma County voters have every right to choose a County Commissioner who pays his taxes like everyone else.

Sounds like Mr Rinehart might get a chance to see homosexual activities in action. Good luck in prison.
