OKLAHOMA CITY - Outspoken state Rep. Sally Kern was turned back by security Wednesday morning when she arrived at the Capitol carrying a pistol in her purse.

Kern, R-Oklahoma City, was nearly as surprised as security when a camera spotted the small handgun when her purse rolled through the camera-equipped conveyer.

The lawmaker, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, said she routinely removes it before entering the Capitol, but just forgot this time.

Kern said she asked security if she "could put the gun up." She returned to her vehicle, left the weapon there, and returned to the Capitol for a meeting.

The lawmaker was not arrested.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Chris West said, "We tell security to use their heads," and assess this kind of situation before taking action.

Way to go Kern...Thank you for doing the right thing. You hva e concealed carry permit and we all forget sometimes. I am glad there will be no further trouble. I am sorry that it got posted here, for this really isn't even news. It's also a shame that some here will make a villian out of you for this.

If you walk into a government building with a weapon, its news. If you're a state Representative, it makes it bigger news. This stuff is reported all the time. As far as the "ridiculous nonsense" this section will likely be flooded with? Well, Sally should know a thing or two about spouting ridiculous nonsense.

I'm curious. Why would someone who always says God is REAL, all knowing and on her side....and works in the here and now need a gun anyway???

I agree this is hardly newsworthy. This woman is already a horrible excuse for a human being who needs no further villification to secure her place in Hell, but a little more ammo is always appreciated.

It's good to know this woman's packin' though, just in case one of them-thar homosexuals tries to convert her...

It would have been just horrible if she had shot herself.

This one is too funny...Does she know what to do with it??

I still can't believe they have her 'employed' down there. Do they every now and them do kick out psychological tests to government employees? I just hope she doesn't go Postal.

Oh My Gosh. You don't think that is why she was sneaking a gun in do you? That is close to Edmond where "going postal" got its name. I have been to the Memorial at the Edmond post office it is beutiful. Those poor people who lost their lives. Yes, they must beef up security with this Kern woman and do a psych test. Edmond is North of OKC on the way to Guthrie. We went to the Memorial on a beutiful day, like to day. Poor Silly Kern, I hope she hasnt been over come with voices from God or her dog.

I think it's cool she had a gun.

I like guns. I like the second amendment.
I'm glad to hear that Kern also believes in the right to bear arms.

Cops like people with concealed carry permits. They know the trouble they have to go through to get one. They know they spent good money to get one. They know they are honest, good people.

btw, all that even though I think ALL gun control, including carry permits, are unconstitutional.

This was not her first offense. Earlier this summer she did the same thing. I think it is great the she has a weapon and is licensed to use it. However lets talk fair play If you or I was to try this we would be arrested the FIRST time not to mention the second. We would also loose our permit.

Now I am all for Guns and our rights. Such as the open carry petition for our state. That is the real issue that needs to be addressed.
