'Major D-League announcement' to be made in Tulsa today
By Staff Reports

Last Modified: 7/31/2008 9:18 AM
A news conference featuring Oklahoma City NBA chairman Clay Bennett and general manager Sam Presti has been scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Downtown Doubletree Hotel.
NBA Development League president Dan Reed will also be in attendance for what is being called a "major D-League announcement."
Tulsa has a team, the Tulsa 66ers, in the D-League.
Oklahoma City will have an NBA franchise for the 2008-09 season after a settlement announced earlier this month between the Seattle SuperSonics and the City of Seattle.
The settlement calls for the team's owners, Bennett and his Professional Basketball Club LLC, to pay as much as $75 million to the city in exchange for the immediate termination of the SuperSonics' lease with its former arena.
The team, which has not been named, will play at the Ford Center.

I don't know what this is, but if they want a new arena, they can't have it!

They shouldn't call them the Oklahoma Thunder. They OKC taxpayers are paying for a lot of the things it took to get the team to OKC. Thus it should be called the Oklahoma City Thunder (or whatever).

According to the lease agreement between the team and the arena, the team must be called "Oklahoma City" whatever. However, I think this is extremely idiotic on part of the city leaders. For this team to succeed here, it will need support from all over the state, including Tulsa patrons. For that reason alone, they should call it "Oklahoma" whatever to prevent alienating some potential attendees.

Call it OKC, as bad as they are going to be; I don't want to be associated with them anyway.

I imagine that all the announcement will be is that the Tulsa team will be the D-Leage team for the new OKC/OK team.

It would be nice if the team name incorporated the entire state, however they will be playing exhibition games at the BOK Center and regular season games in the future. I am glad that Oklahoma is getting a team and I will support them regardless.

I don't think the announcement is that Tulsa (Bixby) will be the OKC D-League team. That has already been announced. Unless they feel some reason to show their faces in Tulsa and make a big deal out of it to show that they care about us! Ha!

OKC team/Bennett is buying the 66ers. this is good news for tulsa. also, i bet tulsa will be seeing an orlando magic vs. OKC (whatever) exhibition game in the new BOK arena. Bennett buying the 66ers makes it more possible for OKC to come here to Tulsa i.e, dancer visits, mascot visits, players sent down, major NBA events here. This is their way of reaching out to Tulsa.

OKC forked over all the money, so it should be OKC. I heard they were going to purchase the Tulsa-66ers. When the hornets was here it said OKC & Tulsa still went to the games. The thing about Tulsa they are so jealious of OKC now , and they always one something for nothing.

People, they will have "Oklahoma City" in their name, it was decided a long time ago by Mick Cornett and Clay Bennett.

There is nothing "major" about any announcements regarding the D league
