Sally Kern says she is a 'warrior for Judeo-Christian values'

NORMAN — An Oklahoma lawmaker who has said homosexuality poses a bigger threat to the U.S. than terrorism claims she is a "cultural warrior for Judeo-Christian values."
Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, told members of the Cleveland County Republican Club Tuesday that being a conservative means supporting religion and morals in government as strongly as cutting taxes.
Quoting George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and others, Kern said the Founding Fathers expected U.S. government and society to be directed by biblical principles.
"I am not saying everyone has to be Christian; this is not a homogenous nation," Kern said. "What you have to be is someone who believes in a Judeo-Christian ethic, in other words, in knowing there's a right and wrong.
"Not all lifestyles are equal; not all religions are equal," she said. "Was I saying all people are not equal? Heavens no; we were all created equal."
Kern repeated her opposition to gay marriage and homosexuality, though the lawmaker said she supports people's individual rights.
She got national attention this year when she said the homosexuality agenda is "the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam."
Democrat Ron Marlett, 59, of Warr Acres, is challenging Kern for the District 84 House seat. Marlett has said he wants to represent all the district's residents "equally with no discrimination as to race, religion, gender or sexual preference."
Kern, who is running for a third term, walked to the lectern on
crutches and said she's dealing with bulging disks and an irritated sciatic nerve. She started by explaining how she, a schoolteacher and minister's wife, became a state representative.
"I expected to run and lose, and then be a better government teacher, but I won," Kern said. "My Lord made it very clear to me that I'm a cultural warrior for Judeo-Christian values."

What about The Family Research Council (FRC),a Christian right non-profit think tank and lobbying organization? The founder of this group( James Dobson, focus on the Family) is part of the same Prince family that used their power (lobbying) and money earned as a high powered christian organization to become known as Blackwater World Wide, the biggest mercenary group in the world that we the USA pay to protect us from all the people that dont believe the way we do. Blackwater is a security company that does the same thing our soldiers used to do but at over 1,000$ a day for the common agent.
"Blackwater is currently the largest of the U.S. State Department's three private security contractors, providing a total of 987 contractors. Of the 987 provided, 744 are U.S. citizens. At least 90 percent of its revenue comes from government contracts, two-thirds of which are no-bid contracts. Blackwater Worldwide is currently contracted by the United States government to provide security services in the Iraq War.
On September 16 2007, Blackwater employees in Nisour Square, Baghdad shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians, at least 14 of whom were killed "without cause" according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. No charges have been laid."
So I guess it just depends which end of the gun you are on as a Christian and what office you hold and how much you can run your mouth in the papers and on the news.

Kern is the worst kind of representative. Fix the roads, fix our schools, fix the corruption in our state... I cant remember the last time I saw a gay person in the news for killing mass amounts of people or taking down our way of life. Focus on the real problems instead of living in the problems of your own mind !!
I was listening to a person talk the other day about Obama and she was saying " I didnt know the inside of black peoples mouths were black and so is the palms of his ( Obamas) hands." This is a person that talks about God and conservative values all the time but claims to not be racist. People hide in their so called moral values because talking about the color of the inside of a black persons mouth was a racist remark. She laughed during the remarks as if she was making some sort of joke that was funny. I just dont get it.
Kern is the same way with her moral police. Ive been involved with a couple of different denominations in my life time and from the pulpit to the congregation the morals were enough to make me leave. Adultery, child abuse, theft, drinking and drugs, spouse abuse.... then they stand up and pass the plate, communion, preach, pray, lead music, give concerts all while "Praising Jesus name and thanking him for His forgiveness." As far back in recorded history Christians have been mounting wars and killing in the name of God. History has proven time and time again that even though we live in a civilized society that Christians will start a war or kill a group of people that doesnt fall into their line of thinking. Who exactly is the terrorists again? From Catholics to Christian Kings and Govts killings have been and are still being done.

It's people like Sally Kern who perpetuate the image of Oklahoma as a backwater, hillbilly haven. Her comments seem to indicate that she is an ignorant, fearful, hate-filled old lady. What in blue blazes is she doing running the state?

She can't handle gays, a segment of the population. That's not something to brag about or support. She needs to get voted out. It makes me wonder if those who voted for her will vote against her in the next election. I wouldn't want to see her teaching government either.
I'm agnostic. Sally Kern is exactly the reason why I think religion can twist the mind of a person to believe or do anything to others.

What a sad set of posts. Satan must be jumping with joy at the good work his helpers are doing today in the name of 'freedom of speech'.
I had to check twice to make sure that I was not on the Sacramento Bee's web site.

Kerns quite clearly doesn't know right from wrong. Her complete lack of knowledge of the Bible and the misinterpretation she spews forth is giving venom to the knuckle dragging rednecks of the state. Sally is showing the state of Oklahoma and the world that she is not mentally well.
Sally it's time to deal with constructive issues. How about an energy policy??? Maybe that wont get you the attention you seem to lack though ... but you would be doing your job is you attended to the states business instead of stewing in your circle of fear.
Please get some professional help and remove the demons that are causing you so much termoil Sally.

chase: the separation of church and state is often misrepresented. the law was made so that the state didn't influence the church (such as it did in england and corruption followed). if we get right down to it, our country was founded on christian principles. by your logic, we shouldn't even be allowed to be a country. where would that leave us?

You left out that the christians have doomed all of the other religions to hell. How lucky the christians are that they picked or had foisted upon them the 'correct' religion. Isn't it amazing that god is going to discriminate against the true majority population of the planet?

There are many "christians" in our area. Few Christians. The Bible I read says to "make it an ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your hands". Work with your hands...probably intended to be both literal (at times) but also figurative. Christians should be emphatically politically ambiguous...and instead of spending our time trying to pass "moral" laws and agendas, we should spend our time just loving people, with indiscriminate compassion. That's really all we should be doing. Redemption of this broken world isn't going to come from "christian" politicians passing "christian" laws...it's going to come from Christians volunteering at battered women's shelters, and loving runaways and orphans, and working at homeless shelters, etc. Redemption always comes from the bottom up...not top down.

To all of those who say they believe in Jesus: Now is the time to stand. Get in scripture, find truth, and change your world. You don't have to go to Africa or Asia to tell people; you don't have to go to South America to show people. We need to breed truth in ourselves so we can breed it in others. Let your light shine. This is not a battle about homosexuality. That's just one fronts of the war. This is a battle for peoples' souls. This is a battle for eternity. I have been convicted by the Truth of God in this. Let's get ready for battle.

I'm really concerned about Silly Sally. I think the same problem that is irritating her bulging disks and irritated sciatic nerve has somehow made it into her brain causing her think believe God is personally speaking to her. I hope she gets help for her dillusions. There's no telling who she will go after next.

thanks for the clarification, but i didn't write that, i was simply stating i agreed with the statement that someone else made. and whether homosexuality is a "lifestyle" or an "orientation" is completely irrelevant to me. the point is everyone deserves to be treated with respect no matter what their sexual preference is.

We're not even in the minority though...
That 79% is people who SAY they're Christian, i.e. they know they're not Muslim, they might not ever go to church, or read a bible, but they're from a America so they must be.
A much more accurate number would be the 40% who go to church regularly.
Or, that 79% of Americans believe openly gay individuals should be allowed to serve in the military.
Or that 57% of Americans believe gays should be allowed to marry or have civil unions.
Just because you all go to church doesn't mean they're all hate-mongers like you. Some of them, apparently, can think for themselves. So it looks like yes, the bigots are a minority.
More to the point, does that even matter though? What's right isn't necessarily the most popular choice. Rights for women, black, integration etc were all very unpopular and vehemently opposed by "Christians" in the 20's, 50's and 60's, why should we think we'll have to do anything but force the right choice down your throats again. Grow up.

What is a Christian???
There are many Christians in the United States. I consider myself a Christian but not a "Christian" according to some of these posters!!
Here lies the paradox when you have an elected representative who Wishes to USE religion with politics.
Piligrims came to this country for in order to have RELIGION separate from STATE ISSUES.
Mrs. Kern needs to review the constitution and American History and so do some of the posters.
P.S. There are many different BIBLES out there too. Please don't spew something that others DO NOT Want to HEAR or Understand. If they did, they WOULD ASK.
Your blend of christianity is altogether DIFFERENT than another's variety of IT.
