TINKER AFB -- Broken Arrow resident Dan Rooney was among two Oklahomans honored by President Bush Friday morning shortly after his arrival at Tinker Air Force Base.

Rooney is founder of The Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides educational opportunities for families of military members killed or disabled in action.

The president introduced Rooney as "the major here, a golf pro, who has served and used his position to raise money."

"Our country is better of because millions of Americans have heard the call," Bush said. "Thank you all for what you do and God bless you."

Bush also recognized Karen Stark of Edmond, founder of the Hugs Project. Stark presented the president with a "cooling tie" -- a polymer infused bandanna worn by military personnel to ward off heat.

Air Force One arrived shortly after 9 a.m. Friday. In his short time at Tinker, Bush addressed the impending arrival of Hurricane Ike on the Texas coast.

"I suspect there's going to be some Texans headed to Oklahoma and I know they will find some good people up here," Bush said.

Bush spent fewer than 10 minutes at Tinker, before leaving to attend a conference at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and a private Republican Party fundraiser at the home of John Crasap, owner of Premium Beers of Oklahoma.

myrha,

I want to thank you for the ultimate sacrifice your family has paid. Regardless of politics, your son is a hero to me and my family. May GOD bless you and keep you, and HE will also assuage your heartbreak in time.

Great questions MYRA and you should be able to voice your opinion. Bush is all about the dollar bill, and his lobbyist buddies that line his pockets. People complain about the Mayor of Tulsa being on a ballpark trust but she gave her own money to the trust. Bush takes money from hard working individuals and place our kids in danger with a patriotic pitch to go after someone that tried to kill his father. SO YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT AND GO FOR IT!!!

I cannot believe he has the nerve to show his face anywhere after the state condition he's placed this nation in. The only people who have ever truly benefitted under his "reign" are the wealthy while the middle class and the poor suffered. I cannot wait for his term to be over! Perhaps THEN this unnecessary war under his own agenda, with untold blood-shed and sacrifice will be over as well!

Commonsense, it's people like you that I wonder who you will gripe about after President Bush is no longer in office. It has amazed me over the last 8 years how much hatred there is toward President Bush, I think you all hate him more than you do the terrorists, Osama Bin Laden, et al. And I think it all started because President Bush beat Gore in 2000! You've never been able to let it go.

Considering the mess he was handed by the Clinton Administration and then being in office no more than 9 months before 9/11 and then Hurrican Katrina, I think he has done a wonderful job. Have I agreed with all his policies? No, especially illegal immigration; has he made some mistakes, yes, after all we are all human (well except for the Messiah Obama), but overall he has done a very good job.

Though I do have to admit it's been a rather boring White House, I mean no BJ's in the oval office and skirt chasing, no hiding of files that miraciously appear, whitewater, travelgate, etc. And of course, having a "Classy and Gracious" First Lady Laura Bush has been wonderful.

It will be interesting to see IF the Great Messiah (and that's a big IF, on the other hand there were idiots out there that put Slick Willie in office twice) wins the election, who you all will gripe about then.

Myrha I cannot fully understand your grief because I have not lost any of my children, however, I lost friends in Viet Nam. Not as many that died over there as can back with life altering injuries, but nevertheless they all made significant sacrifices. I went on through the 70s and most of the 80s asking why. I never got an answer, and it never really goes away. Today I see the daily casualty reports in the TW and wonder if anyone looks. If anyone cares. Personally I have developed a lot of empathy for people, and have become much more liberal in my thinking. I suspect age has had something to do with that also. I would hope you get answers to the questions eating at your heart, but I suspect nothing anyone says will ever really ease the pain or justify what has happened with this country. I hope you find peace.

I am truly sorry to the families of those that have lost their soldiers. However, that is a risk you run when you join a volunteer army.

If you are going to blame President Bush, also blame Hillary Clinton and all of congress men and women who voted to enter this war.

I do wish our troops would come home, however, I think President Bush gets unfair criticism. Other than the war, what is the condition he has placed this nation in? That is not all President Bush, at one point during his presidency, the stock market was at an all time high. What goes up must come down at some point. Also, the president wasn't running all these mortgage companies making the loans and the borrowers taking out loans they couldn't afford. People need to take responsibility and stop looking for some easy person to place the blame on.

Being a president is a double-sided coin. If everything is going well under their administration they get all the credit, if things are in turmoil then they get all the blame. Of course it's like being the CEO of a corporation, a representative to answer questions when the proverbial 'stuff' hits the fan.

Maybe George W. is smarter than everyone gives him credit for, but to me he comes across as a deer caught in the headlights, good ol' frat boy, etc. He stumbles and bumbles through press conferences and appears to have his own vocabulary and this is the guy who was elected TWICE... I don't get it...

anm1135,

you said: "If you are going to blame President Bush, also blame Hillary Clinton and all of congress men and women who voted to enter this war."

i dont blame them, because they were following their leader, who had assured them that he had received credible information that definitively proved that the war was necessary because the terrorists had WMD's.

he either lied about having that information (and there is more than enough motive for him t have lied about this), or the people who gave him this information were not trustworthy (i cant think of much motiviation for Bush's advisors to lie about this, and even if they did, its still Bush's fault for placing un-trustworthy people into advisory positions.)

and as far as the other 'situations' he has placed this country in (besides the war), that would most likely be to the recessive economy we are experiencing. by lining the senate & congress with his felow Repub buddies, adding tax incentives for corporations, and cutting taxes for the richest 95% of the country (which, as we all know, will encourage them to spend more, and therefoe stimulate the conomy, which has CLEARLY happened over the last 8 years) he has crushed the economy, and raised the national defecit to the highest level EVER.

but yes, the story was copied from the Norman newspaper, so you were right on that note:

Thanks for the walls of text, clearly you don't feel represented. In this fair Republic, John McCain is the clear choice for President of the United States of America.

OK, Cory, I'll ask you again the question you are afraid to answer. Are you saying that Bush did NOT lie, and that people did NOT die? There is nothing cowardly about opposing evil when it rears its ugly head in government. What is cowardly is calling another citizen names when they don't agree with your deranged worldview.

Are you too cowardly to answer the question?

Noting the sound of crickets after that question, I'll ask another. How does a liar like Bush honor anyone?

Hmm! Until today, I'd never noticed that the "peace sign" looks like a Chicken Foot, trapped in a circle!
I don't agree with everything President George Bush does, especially concerning the Israeli/Palestinian conflict; but, I'm certainly glad he had the courage to take the battle to the terrorists (including Saddam Hussein), rather than let them continue attacking us here in the United States of America!
THANK YOU, PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH!

GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.!!!

Tulsa Truth, you are pretty good at beating your chest and (once again) calling people names. But you didn't answer either question.

And maybe you could tell us when and how Saddam attacked America. I think almost everyone missed that.

I am thankful for your service. My stepson is a Marine right now (two yours in Iraq already). That doesn't change the fact that we should never have been there. Geroge W Bush has a special place in hell awaiting him for lying us into a war.

Hey all you Bush Bashers out there!!!!! Myrha did not write the article and she did not loose a son in Iraq. That was another Bush Basher that lives south of Norman. Quit being all about the hate for Bush before you read the article. Ohhhhh another Bush hater so you all jump on the bandwagon.

Notice Myrha has not commented that she did not write the article??? It is all about the Democrats can defend their positions so they slam the Republicans.

And all of your congress people Repub and Demo voted to go to war with the same intelligence about WMD's that Bush had.

Are you so stupid that you think Bush actually gathered all the information about the WMD's and then made up lies about it?

Oh, and BTW, they did find WMD's several years ago. And they have linked Iraq with training the terrorists. Thats what our Oklahoma Air National Guard are doing these days. Taking out Al-Quieda bases. Hmmmmm, maybe if you would look at the news instead waking up each day hating yourself so much you have to vent against the President.

But we understand, it;s easier to make up lies and blame others for everything while so you do not have to deal with the reality of the situation.

All in all, we have not been attacked in the US since Bush "attacked" Iraq. Illegal war, Bush;s war, war for oil, or not, it stopped the terrorist attacks on the US and our emabassies and ships. You know the attacks that happened during the previous "regime" of Clinton. The WTC in 93 and the embassies, ships, nightclubs, etc... that Slick Willy would not do anything about.
