Officials: E. coli outbreak over
The Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove is at the center of an investigation into an E. coli outbreak. AP

An E. coli outbreak that sickened hundreds and killed one man in northeastern Oklahoma is over, state health officials said Tuesday.
Although some newly reported cases have been identified, the last known outbreak-related case was Sept. 6.
At least 314 people became ill as a result of the outbreak, including 65 children. More than 70 people were hospitalized and 17 received dialysis treatment.
Thus far, 1,843 people have been interviewed as part of the outbreak investigation.
All known cases had association with the Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove.
"The spread of E. coli 0111 in this outbreak was directly related to the restaurant," state Epidemiologist Kristy Bradley said.
Health investigators are reviewing results of interviews with people who ate at the Country Cottage to determine the possible association of illness to specific food items. This analysis could take several weeks.
Where available in northeastern Oklahoma, the public may call 211 for more information about the outbreak. Additional information is also on
www.health.ok.gov
.

That's been proven to be not true. Why does the Tulsa World insist on blaming just this restaurant. There are many cases of people who ate there and didn't get sick and many cases of people who got sick that didn't eat there or come into contact with someone who did.

Sorry I said TW but meant the state. They just don't want to be seen as not having a handle on it. The state is not telling the whole truth.

Why don't they just say it...
The Person who carried the virus apparently 'worked' at they place. This restraurant probably paid them cash. No trail. They left..and are working at another place RIGHT NOW!!!
Again...I say it's terrorists. Cheap labor rules!! Only in America Folks!

Only a week or so ago the state health department was saying there were lots of cases they couldn't tie to this restaurant. What's the deal? It seems there's a version of the week club somewhere that keeps putting out different information. I think they just don't know and have decided to blame the country cottage which is most likely a victim of someone being a carrier to the place rather than actually being the source.

So, I wonder if they plan to re-open? And if so, when?
I still think someone brought it in with the intention of seeing just what the outcome would be. Some ag student or science student..?

That dump will not reopen. If they did they would not stay open. The damage is done, the business has gone to Chouteau.

Actually the man who died had been home from a visit to a foreign country for less than 1 week. He was the first to get sick, apparently really sick and he is the one who died.
One possibility is that it was this man who brought E Coli into the restaurant and "shared" it with others using the same utensils to serve their own portions.
Much of the food served there is eaten with the fingers further suggesting it may have come from patrons' own fingers after using the contaminated utentsils.
No doubt the two employees who became ill picked it up and passed it as well.
Once the utensils went through the dishwasher that night (before anyone reported being sick) all traces of the bacteria were gone from the restaurant.
Not stumping for the restaurant - don't eat there - but in this instance I think they were victims as well.

I disagree with breite....It will open again, and be safer and cleaner than ever before! Don't count them out! They are good christian people who run the restaurant and do not deserve your comment!!!

Bluebird48-- Why would you spout off such infammatory, ignorant and perverse accusations, when you OBVIOUSLY do not know the family who owns this restaurant. Do you? Do you? DO YOU????????????
OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!!!!!!! This family has been devastated too! It pains them incredibly to see that people have suffered and become ill "allegedly" from their restaurant. They are wonderful, decent Christian people! They are heartbroken and crushed that this has happened, not just to them but to people they know, children of people they know, and even people they do not know!!!!
I just wish you were intelligent enough to realize how such nasty, baseless accusations hurt good, innocent people. But obviously you do not care, or aren't smart enough to figure it out!
I don't know if you ever ate at Country Cottage, but I hope you keep your ignorant self in Sand Springs because you are not welcome around the good-hearted, sweet people of Locust Grove who love and support the owners of Country Cottage.

These so called "wonderful Christian people" are heartbroken and crushed only because they are losing money. If they REALLY cared they would have taken better care to keep that dump cleaned and hired a better class of servers than the snot wiping losers that were employed there. Good riddance!

Endora, i believe that your right about Prairegirl3. She does not know what she talking about. Chad was not out of the country 1 week before he ate there. He was how ever out of the country 2 months before on his honeymoon. I do not believe it was from him at all. People that I know ate there before he did and got sick. They were proved to have the e coli and spent over a week in the hospital. They were actually in the hospital 2 days before Chad even ate there. And yes what does it say about the catering that they did. However I do agree with people about the owners They would have NEVER wanted this to happen and would have done EVERYTHING in thier power to stop it if only they had known something was wrong.

Thank you for your honesty. My post intention was to make 'mom and pop' in addition to franchise establishments more responsible when interviewing personnel whether they are part-time, full-time, or even volunteers.
Anytime the public is involved. People should take extra care in crossing all 't' and 'i'. It not just having a clean establishment here. We are at WAR you know. People forget this.
Sometimes people do give a drifter a job in lieu of a meal without thinking. I say THINK!!! and then THINK again!!

I know several people from Locust Grove. They all stand by the owners of the CC. They say these owners are BIG donors of money and services to the community. I'm with CR. I'd go there in a heartbeat. I'm sure they will be extra careful in their food handling from now on.
Didn't the Health Department say this was an uncommon strain of e-coli? If so, one of the passers-by could have brought it in.. I too don't think they'll find the real cause.

C.R. Delough, I am sorry I do not have that link. It was a couple of weeks ago I read that he had just returned from somewhere in South America I think. I do not remember his name. Perhaps, if I can find his name I can find the article. Will look.

Bluebird48-- thank you for your humbleness. I just wish people would not fly accusations at the owners because even if it did orginate in their restaurant, who is to say how it got there? It could have been a tained food item, worker, or guest? We just simply do not know. I appreciate your thoughtfulness on this matter. The world would be a better place with more humble folks as yourself.
But I just wish everyone could remember these are real people. Breite-- you could take a lesson! Obviously YOU do not know them either!!! I know this family well and have spoken with them regularly over the last several weeks. They have NEVER ONCE said a word about losing money. In fact, they are not speaking up in public, because they don't feel as though people should feel sorry for them. Although, their lives have been devastated also, they feel it pales in comparison to what the sick people are going thru. In their opinion, the people who are sick deserve all the prayers, not them. In reality, those of us who know this wonderful family know better-- they deserve to be in our thoughts and prayers also.
But the owners are such lovely, humble, kind and caring people that they would rather sacrifice their own well-being by not speaking out, so that the victims get paid due respect. They couldn't care less about money-- they are racked with pain and dispair over this entire situation and what it's done to their friends, their town and people who ate there.
So before you say "good riddance," why don't you take a step back and look at yourself-- have you always done right in EVERYTHING you do? Have you ever NOT been in a situation where you appear to be at fault for something that is beyond your control? If you can answer yes, then please, be my guest and cast the first stone.
It's easy to spout off nastiness on message boards, due to the anonymity factor. But just because you are anonymous doesn't mean your words don't have consequences. It just means you are a coward and don't have to face up to it.
But yes, I agree Bluebird... more attention does need to be put on food handling by EVERYONE, from the farm to the restaurants.

And Williamjohn... Please, please, PLEASE get a new line... every post you've ever written says the same thing: "Demolish the place! Burn it to the ground!" At this stage, at least offer some intelligent thought, or at the very least, just be orginal for once. I'm tiring of your limited vocabulary. Yawn......

prairiegirl3, His name was Chad Ingle. You have your facts wrong. He was never in south america. He was in Jamica and that was over 2 months before he was ever at the cottage. Like I said people were sick BEFORE he even ate there.
