OKLAHOMA CITY Facing sexual battery charges, Oklahoma Bar Association general counsel Dan Murdock resigned Friday.

Murdock's resignation was accepted Friday, said John Morris Williams, the association's executive director.

Murdock's resignation is effective Dec. 31. Until then, he will prepare the office for transition, a statement on the association's Web site says.

Murdock was charged in August in Oklahoma County District Court with two counts of sexual battery for allegedly biting and grabbing a woman in June.

Murdock has been on leave since the charges were filed.

His lawyer, Tom Riesen, wouldn't comment on the case Monday. He said in August that no crime was committed.

"This was a voluntary resignation," Riesen said Monday. "He did this because he believed it to be the right thing for him, his family and members of the Oklahoma Bar Association."

Murdock was general counsel for the association for more than 20 years. On three occasions, he was its interim executive director.

"Dan Murdock has given much to this association and to the lawyers of this state," OBA President William Conger said in a statement on the group's Web site. "I am saddened to receive his resignation. Professionally and personally, he will be missed by the bar association and the countless lawyers he has worked with. I wish nothing but the best for him in the future."

His leaving is as soft a landing as some of the fat cat CEO's on Wall Street.
He is NOT being punished.

Sorry Eric, but your statement is absurd. Murdock won't walk away with millions of tax payer or stockholder bucks. He probably won't get any more than whatever (if anything) his pension for 20 plus years as a salaried employee entitles him to. Sounds like a drinking problem caught up with him since normally only drunks and vampires nibble. Here's hoping he gets the help he needs. He had a long and distinguished career and this hardly equates with someone who destroys the savings accounts of thousands of people for their own gain. A simple, unaggravated battery case (if true) such as this wouldn't normally merit anything other than a misdemeanor expunged sentence for someone with a substance abuse problem and no prior problems.

Eric - thanks for the web site of the arrest record. WOW!

What a total scum this murcock must be. And, I am sure
this is his "first" time ever to behave this way. NOT

And, he judged the behavior of others???
