Outgoing state bar attorney enters plea
By AP Wire Services

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A lawyer who examined misconduct allegations against attorneys for the Oklahoma Bar Association has been given a year of probation on a charge of outraging public decency.
Dan Murdock entered an Alford plea to the misdemeanor count Thursday, maintaining he did nothing wrong at a June 28 wedding shower but acknowledging that Oklahoma County prosecutors had enough evidence to persuade a jury otherwise.
Murdock, 62, was accused of groping and biting a woman that day at Remington Park. He originally was charged with two felony counts of sexual battery.
"I understand the nature of the charges and the evidence that would be presented against me," he wrote in court papers. "I understand this evidence, if believed, could be sufficient to convict me."
The woman told Oklahoma City police that Murdock pulled down her blouse and bit her on the breast. The woman said Murdock also grabbed her by the hair, bit the back of her neck and grabbed her outside her clothes in her genital area.
Besides the probation, District Judge Jerry Bass ordered Murdock to undergo an alcohol assessment and perform 50 hours of community service.
"He'll be speaking to people that are in therapy for alcohol abuse and the like," District Attorney David Prater said.
Murdock declined comment Thursday. Attorney Tom Riesen said Murdock is pleased the case has been resolved.
"This has been a very stressful time for him and he's looking forward to moving on," Riesen
said.
Murdock resigned his post as general counsel at the bar association last week, but he won't leave that job until Dec. 31. In that position, he looked into accusations of misconduct against lawyers.
If Murdock were himself to face such allegations, a seven-member commission would investigate to see whether there is any merit to the claim, according to the bar association.
The state Supreme Court ultimately would decide whether disciplinary action is appropriate.

There's justice for lawyers...then there's justice for the rest of us. Try what this guy did and see if you get PROBATION!

I filed a claim one time against an attorney for taking my mail. I recieved my mail the next day! The postal inspector from Dallas told me they know he had it in his possesion. The Oklahoma Bar did absolutely nothing to this scumbag attorney and they would not disclose his answer either. They said they didn't have to. He did nothing wrong. This Murdock scumbag was looking into this also. He did his job to protect another Oklahoma Bar licensed attorney. You get all the justice you can afford or all the justice the bar wants you to have available to you. There should be a government agency over the legal system like the FAA is over aviation. They should be able to be contacted about the misdeeds of their licensed members and have some kind of oversight besides lawyers over lawyers. Purely disgusting! It's too bad all of them do not get their just deserts like this scum.

I had hired a Lawyer back in "96" he was a friend of my cousin. Well at the same time my mother and her sisters had hired him to probate a house and land for them. On my case he had asked for a 75.00 retainer fee, which was cheap at the time. A week later when I went to meet him at the court house, he told me that I owed him 75.00. I was confused and pulled out my receipt and showed that I had already paid, his reply was that my mother and her sisters owed him some money , so he took the liberty of taking my money to use on their debt. He told me to collect my money from them to pay him, I was shocked and confused, and actually got mad at my mother and her sisters. I thought what he was doing was legal, thats how stupid I was at the time. Of course I never got my money back and he didn't represent me on my case, because I refused to pay him again. Later on did I find out that I could of called the Bar Association and made a complaint on him(Charles Tripp is his name). I was stupid to trust him, or trust any Lawyer for that matter. I learned my lesson the hard way...

You can never really trust a lawyer. they are only on your side if it is going to help them. they are all self centered.

Bitter much?
Isaac-Don't you always post your same generic rant about "revolving door courtrooms" on every story where someone takes a plea deal. But this plea deal is somehow unique to him as an attorney? Pick a side. My guess is, you guys all stop your crying if you ever the help of a lawyer. Sour grapes...

The truth of the matter lies somewhere inbetween....there are good ones and bad ones like any other group. Unfortunately that group has more horny sociopaths and psycopaths than good ones....more than any other group. Ya dig?
