CLAREMORE — The city's Parks and Recreation Department is teaming with other local organizations to provide families a safe alternative to trick-or-treating.

Partners for the free Halloween event Oct. 24 in Will Rogers Park are the Rogers State University Student Government Association and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the Rogers County Big Brothers Big Sisters agency.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with the Student Government Association's Kiddie Carnival, featuring games, face painting and a costume contest. Big Brothers Big Sisters will host a pumpkin-carving competition.

The park is where Oklahoma 20 and Oklahoma 88 converge in front of RSU on the west side of the city.

Later in the evening, the city will play a movie, and local Boy Scouts will sell concessions. The city also is sponsoring a hayride from Will Rogers Park to the RSU Nature Reserve for Pi Kappa Alpha's "Trail of Terror."

For more information, call Cassie Sowers, the city's marketing and public relations director, at 341-8842, or B.J. Armstrong, RSU's student activities coordinator, at 343-7755.
