BROKEN ARROW -- A 19-year-old man was shot several times by a homeowner Saturday night after he reportedly broke into the home, police said.

The victim, Stephen Richardson, was taken to an area hospital, where his condition was not immediately available.

Authorities said officers were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. to the home in the 3100 block of West Norman Circle.

Officers said Richardson reportedly was drunk when he entered the house, where the homeowner shot him.

Maj. Mark Irwin said Richardson “thought he was breaking into his (own) house.”

He said he wasn’t sure whether Richardson lived in the vicinity. Officers attempted to interview Richardson, but he was too drunk to be coherent, Irwin said.

Police are investigating the shooting.

Geez, he must have been really drunk. He lucked out this time, at least he's still alive. I don't blame the homeowner.

I don`t blame the home owner, he had to protect what was his. I do hope this boy lives, this may teach him a lesson that the drug alcohol can be a killer when you over indulge in it.

Dang! What was that boy drinkin'? I'd been known in my younger days to toss back a few, and on more than one occasion, a few too many, but never have I been so drunk that I had to break into my own house, let alone a house that I mistakenly thought was mine! I doubt that we'll here anything else on this, since the intruder is expected to survive, but I believe there is more to the story than we'll ever know.

Why is the drunken, incoherent home invader referred to as a "victim?" Was Japan a victim in WW II? Were Bonnie and Clyde victims? Is an armed robber who is shot by police a victim? When did self defense become unacceptable violence that creates "victims?"
