Fund set up to help family hit by tornado

A fund has been set up to help the victims of a tornado that left a family of three homeless.

The family has no insurance and no income and had lived in their trailer home west of Prue for only a week when the twister struck Wednesday night.

"We didn't have time here to do any of that," Randy Booker said about getting insurance on the home. "I've got resumes out everywhere."

The family, which included Booker's wife, Becky Booker, and 14-year-old son, Steven Booker, were in the trailer when it was destroyed. Booker's truck also was damaged by debris.

Randy and Becky Booker were treated at a hospital for minor cuts and bruises.

Donations can be made to the KVOO Tornado Victims Fund at any Bank of Oklahoma branch.

Officials to review vote in Senate race

OKLAHOMA CITY — Officials will review the vote count in a close race that helped swing the balance of power in the state Senate.

In Tuesday's general election balloting, Sen. Jim Reynolds, R-Oklahoma City, defeated Democratic challenger David Boren by 159 votes, according to uncertified results.

Boren is not related to University of Oklahoma President David Boren.

Boren on Friday asked election officials to recount the votes in Senate District 43.

He is also asking that election officials review the votes cast, alleging that some voters were not eligible.

Likewise, Reynolds also
is alleging irregularities in the election.

The deadline to seek a recount was 5 p.m. Friday. Both requests were made shortly before the deadline.

Voters on Tuesday gave Republicans control of the Senate, breaking a 24-24 tie that had been in place since 2006.

Voters sent 26 Republicans and 22 Democrats to the upper chamber.
