Springtime in Tulsa signals the Salvation Army's William Booth Society Benefit Dinner.

And, for us, that always means a chance to experience a speaker of national and international importance.

This year we can double that.

Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton will be featured co-speakers at the 16th annual dinner May 2 at the BOK Center.

The success of the dinner, the Salvation Army's largest annual fundraiser, is due in large part to the generosity of its donors and sponsors.

"We are so grateful to have such generous sponsors," said Capt. Roy Williams, Tulsa area commander. "The level of commitment they show to the community is incredible. This event wouldn't be possible without their generosity."

The Tulsa World is media sponsor.

The commander-in-chief sponsor for the dinner is the Jess L. and Miriam B. Stevens Foundation.

Five Star General sponsors are the Helen Sisk Foundation, Carl and Virginia Short and the Helmerich Foundation.

Generals are the Barnett Family Foundation, the Merkel Foundation, the H.A. and Mary K. Chapman Trust, Charles and Peggy Stephenson, the Barnes Family Foundation, the R.W. Allen Family, Senior Star Living, Robert Thomas, William Thomas, the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, Cyclonic Valve Co. Inc., Leigh and John Reaves, T.D. Williamson Inc., KWB Oil Property Management Inc., Mayor Kathy Taylor and Bill Lobeck, and Unit Corp.

Bob and Bill Thomas of Senior Star Living are dinner
co-chairmen, and Becky Frank of Schnake Turnbo Frank PR is chairwoman of the William Booth Society. Proceeds from the benefit dinner will provide more than 300,000 meals and emergency services for almost 7,000 Tulsa area families in need.

Previous William Booth Society speakers include: Emmitt Smith, Dave Barry, Steve Forbes, Tim Russert, Queen Noor, Terry Bradshaw, Rudy Giuliani, Jay Leno, Dr. Robert H. Schuller, Walter Cronkite, Joe Montana, Peter Lynch, Dr. William F. Bennett, George and Barbara Bush and Paul Harvey.

For more information and to participate in the 2009 William Booth Society Benefit Dinner contact The Salvation Army at 587-7801 or e-mail Nancy Lloyd at nlloyd@tulsacoxmail.com.

In these tough economic times, this is indeed a good thing. Nice support and wonderful speakers.
