Guitar heroes to 'open' Aerosmith, ZZ Top show
Kendall Strain will face off against 16-year-old Daniel Flood (not pictured) at the “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” game on Thursday night as the “opening act” for Aerosmith.

“This means I need to start practicing,” said 17-year-old Kendall Strain on Wednesday afternoon. “I’m going to play the guitar behind my back. I think people will like that.”
As an opening act for Aerosmith, the moves better be great. And after the Wednesday night practice, they will be, Strain promised.
He and 16-year-old Daniel Flood will face off at the “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” game on Thursday night as the “opening act” for Aerosmith and ZZ Top at the BOK Center arena.
The pair’s videos won them meet-and-greet passes, tickets to Thursday night’s concert at the BOK Center and more, courtesy of the AeroForceOne fan site, local radio station KMOD, Guitar Hero and the aerosmith.com Web site.
Both filmed themselves for the “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” contest, uploaded their performances to YouTube … and waited.
“Aerosmith and AeroForceOne took their winner based on creativity,” said Don Cristi, operations director for 97.5 KMOD radio station in Tulsa. “KMOD went strictly from video view numbers.”
Flood, from Tulsa, won the KMOD contest with more than 4,000 views of his video, which showed him owning “Walk This Way” on the video game.
Strain, from Claremore, yelled “I wanna win so badly! You have no idea!” at the beginning of his winning video before he launched into a perfect score, expert level, on “Sweet Emotion,” while head-banging and swaying to the music.
Both will “be on a bus with Joe Perry,” on Thursday evening said Cristi. Also, both will be on stage before the Aerosmith
show, going on before ZZ Top.
Both boys each won a pair of tickets for the show. “I’m taking my 14-year-old brother,” said Strain during a Wednesday phone interview. “My parents already had tickets, so we’re all going. This is going to be so much fun.”
And though Strain can perform “Sweet Emotion” perfectly on “Guitar Hero,” he says he thinks the song will sound better live when Aerosmith plays it. “I love the track. I love the recording,” said Strain. “But to hear ‘Sweet Emotion’ and ‘Walk this Way’ live will be the best. That’s what I really want to see.”
Aerosmith with special guest ZZ Top When: Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with winners of the “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” contest performing before ZZ Top takes the stage Where: BOK Center, 200 S. Denver Ave. Tickets: $129.50, $89.50, $49.50 plus fees, available at BOK Center box office, area Reasor’s, by calling (866) 7-BOK-CTR or online at tulsaworld.com/BOK.

A local band opening for the rock titans might have been a better plan. We hear the BS about the "Tulsa Sound", but nobody really supports the players that try to produce original homegrown music. Let the kids play Guitar Hero in their bedroom.

The "Guitar Hero" South Park episode said it all for me....

Congrats to those young men! That is hard work! Now you get to play with the "Big Boys!" Hope you have a great time, and ask them to sign your guitar!

Glad to see such a high use for all that "musical" talent. I always hated all those pesky riff and tab sheets getting in the way.
