Thunder throttles Oilers
Tulsa heads into its home opener Saturday with a 1-1 record.

The Tulsa Oilers begin their second season in the BOK Center on Saturday when they meet the Wichita Thunder.
Tulsa comes home with a 1-1 record after an ugly loss to Wichita on Friday. The Oilers opened the season with a comeback 6-3 win at Mississippi.
In that game, Tulsa was down 2-0 when Rob Hisey scored three goals to give Tulsa a 3-2 lead. Jake Riddle, Dallas Steward and Aaron Davis then added goals for the final margin.
But there was no comeback on Friday at Kansas Coliseum. The Thunder (1-2) erupted with five goals in two periods, then held on to hand Tulsa a 5-1 Central Hockey League defeat. Former Oklahoma City Blazer Marty Standish scored his first Oilers goal at 7:04 of the third period to avoid a shutout.
Tulsa outshot the Thunder 26-22, but the shots did not find the net until it was too late. Coach Bruce Ramsay pulled Oilers goaltender Kevin Armstrong after two periods, putting in Ryan Ludzik. Ludzik stopped all seven shots that came at him.
The game got ugly at 7:12 of the second period when a fight quickly got out of control.
A total of 62 minutes in penalties were handed out with Tulsa's Rick Kozak picking up 27 by himself. Aaron Davis was also involved along with Wichita's Mike Batovanja and Troy Ofukany. For the game, 104 penalty minutes were handed out.
Five players scored for the Thunder, with Jim Jorgensen and Marc Belanger each picking up two assists with their goals. Jason Duda and Ofukany each had one assist.
Now the
Oilers will be looking for revenge as they take on Wichita at the BOK Center at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday. And there will be plenty of excitement before the game as well, according to Oilers general manager Taylor Hall.
Hall thinks fans will like this year's Oilers.
"We are excited for fans to come out and see our new team," said Hall.
The doors open at 6 p.m. Pregame festivities include live music and activities for children.
Bobbleheads of local sportscaster Big Al Jerkens will be given out at the door.
