Led by the performance of center Rob Hisey, Tulsa took the early season, first-place spot away from Rapid City. The Oilers edged the Rush 5-4 Central Hockey league victory in front of 3,621 fans at the BOK Center on Tuesday night.

Hisey scored one goal and added four assists as Tulsa took an early lead then weathered a Rush rally to push its record to 3-1.

Michael Beausoleil also scored two goals while newcomer Dan Riedel added a power-play goal and TJ Caig picked up his first along with an assist. But it was Hisey who had everyone talking.

At the 13:19 mark in the second period, Hisey cut in from the left wing, placed the puck between his legs, and while facing the sideboards, somehow managed to put the puck over the shoulder of goaltender Danny Battochio. The shot gave Tulsa its fifth and final goal.

"I knew when I recruited (Hisey) what he was capable of," Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay said. "When you try to tell people I know they might second guess you, but I never did. That was a pretty amazing individual performance tonight."

After nearly losing its grip in the second period and allowing four goals in the period, Tulsa held the Rush scoreless in the final 20 minutes.

"Overall we played pretty well," Ramsay said. "I would like to forget about that second period. ... we bounced back in the third period against a pretty good offensive team. Overall, I will give them a grade of a 'B.'"

The second period produced seven goals as Rapid City
came to life after Dan Riedel put Tulsa up 3-0 on a power play at 6:21. Riedel was playing his first game in a Tulsa uniform and gave the Oilers their second powerplay goal of the night.

Brendan Cook put the Rush on the board when he scored on a assist from former Oiler Brendon Hodge. Just 11 seconds later Les Reaney scored at 8:34 for the Rush and suddenly Tulsa's lead was cut to 3-2.

Michel Beausoleil ignited the crowd when he took a breakaway from center ice and skated in all alone on Rush goalie Danny Battochio to give Tulsa a short-handed goal and a 4-2 lead. Colt King answered for Rapid City when he hooked in a rebound to make it 4-3. After Hisey's big goal, King ended the scoring at 16:59 with his second goal for Rapid City.

Tulsa got off to a quick start in the first period, out-shooting the Rush 10-2 on the way to a 2-0 lead. Beausoleil scored his first goal of the season at 4:07 on a feed from Caig. At 13:04, Caig took a blue-line pass from Tyler Butler and put it in the net for his first Tulsa goal and Tulsa's first power-play goal of the season.

The Oilers travel to Mississippi at 7:05 p.m. Friday to play the RiverKings for the second time this season.

That Hisey goal was better than any Ovechkin goal. Do a search for Rob Hisey on YouTube and look at some of the sick goals this kid pulls off.
