A president from fiction

If I were to pick a single, fictional character to become president, I would have to choose Guido Orefice, the main character in the Italian movie La Vita è Bella, or Life is Beautiful.

Guido would make a splendid president because he was a very clever and cunning man.

Even though he was put in several tough situations, he was able to think his way out of them brilliantly. For example, when he is in the concentration camp, he places his son within the German children, instructing him not to speak. However, when served food, the boy accidentally says, “Gratzi,” alerting the Germans that he is Italian.

A soldier leaves to summon a superior and Guido goes into action. By the time the leader has arrived, all of the kids are chanting, “Gratzi, Gratzi!” with Guido in front of them, teaching. By teaching all of the kids the Italian word, his child is no longer singled out as an outsider, therefore he is not in any more danger.

For another thing, he is courageous and compassionate enough to take risks in order to help others. He will go out of his way to make sure that everyone will be okay even if it means that it will slow him down or risk his chances. Also, he would be more than willing to risk his own life to save somebody who needs him or he loves.

Mr. Orefice would also be a great choice because he is very lively and would manage to have a lot of fun during his term. He can be serious enough, but he is quite amusing, loves to make jokes and is not afraid to be silly. He would not be likely to go over the line
and embarrass our country, but he would make sure to see as many people in America smile as he could.

In conclusion, everything about Guido Orefice would make him a great leader of our wonderful country. Whether he would risk his life to make sure that our country remains safe, get us out of a tight spot using his mind, or even just get a serious politician to crack a smile, he would be a terrific choice.
