Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope tells the story of Obama through a mother telling her curious child about his life. She tells of a boy called Barry, with “a mama, white as whipped cream, a daddy, black as ink.”

Written by Nikki Grimes and illustrated by Bryan Collier, it is a wonderful book for knowledge about the childhood of the man running to govern America. It also describes his adult life and his wish to help his fellow citizens and his country.

One particularly strong point is its vivid expressions of the emotions that Barack Obama has gone through in his lifetime, and how hope has always been alive inside of him. This picture book would be an excellent story for early readers or an informational biography for people of all ages.
