Downtown ballpark

By Staff Reports

The push for a stadium downtown, Tulsa Stadium Trust Chairman Stan Lybarger said, was more for revitalization purposes than baseball, a strategy that has proven successful with Oklahoma City's ballpark in Bricktown.

The trust is overseeing a $60 million project that includes construction of a 6,200-seat stadium to house the city's Double-A baseball team, the Tulsa Drillers, and the acquisition of adjacent properties for mixed-use development.

How can the parent(ONEOK)of a regulated utility (ONG)by the naming rights to a ball park?

Is this really necessary? I have to say that moving the drillers downtown just seems ludicrous when considering our present economy. What's wrong with where they are at now? How much of a difference will this 'revitalization of downtown' really make? I don't see this making a big difference in the long run. Why not throw 60 million at education... where it needs to go in Oklahoma. Good lord.

The article says this will be a 6,200 seat stadium. If you click on the multimedia image the information there says it will be a 62,000 seat stadium. Which is correct?

I don't think 62,000 people will fit in to downtown, nor will 6200 drive downtown to the stadium. You can just already see yourself in a massive traffic jam.
