Oklahoma Citizens Proclamation for Morality

Below is the text of a "Proclamation for Morality" released by Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City.
We the People of Oklahoma, Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to secure and perpetuate the blessing of Liberty; to secure just and rightful Government; to promote our mutual Welfare and Happiness, do establish this proclamation and call upon the people of the great State of Oklahoma, and our fellow Patriots in these United States of America who look to the Lord for guidance, to acknowledge the need for a national awakening of righteousness in our land.
WHEREAS, "It is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand" (John Adams); and
WHEREAS, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by Religion and Morality" (John Adams); and
WHEREAS, "Our Constitution was made only for a Moral and Religious people" (John Adams); and
WHEREAS, "We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government...but upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God" (James Madison); and
WHEREAS, "Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God (Benjamin Franklin); and
WHEREAS, "God who gave us life gave us liberty and can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God" (Thomas Jefferson); and
WHEREAS, "Whether any free government can be permanent, where the public worship of God, and the support of Religion, constitute no part of the policy or duty of the state" (Joseph Story); and
WHEREAS, "We hold sacred the rights of conscience, and promise to the people...the free and undisturbed exercise of their religion" (Roger Sherman); and
WHEREAS, "This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians" (Patrick Henry); and
WHEREAS, "When you...exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed upon your mind that God commands you to choose just men who will rule in the fear of God" (Noah Webster); and
WHEREAS, "The principles of genuine Liberty and of wise laws and administrations are to be drawn from the Bible" (Noah Webster); and
WHEREAS, the people of Oklahoma have a strong tradition of reliance upon the Creator of the Universe; and
WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and
WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and
WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and
WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the undersigned elected officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens of the State of Oklahoma, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, believers in the One True God and His only Son, call upon all to join with us in recognizing that "Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord," and humbly implore all who love Truth and Virtue to live above reproach in the sight of God and man with a firm reliance on the leadership and protection of Almighty God; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, humbly call upon Holy God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation, to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.
Signed on the second day of July in the year of our Lord Christ Two Thousand and Nine.

WHEREAS, Sally Kern conveniently forgets about the separation of church and state;
WHEREAS, Sally Kern remains ripe for spoofing in the national media (again);
BE IT RESOLVED that Oklahoma be embarrassed until this woman is run out of office.

Sorry Sally. Try again. As much as you want to, you can't enforce your religious beliefs as the rule of law. I know you believe yourself to personally speak for god, but I remind you that the Constitution of the United States prevents the kind of religious terrorism you would impose.

Religious institutions that use government power in support of themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths, or of no faith, undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of an established religion tends to make the clergy unresponsive to their own people, and leads to corruption within religion itself. Dear Rep. Kern,
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them:
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

Whereas, if politicians had to follow this code, there wouldn't be any - come to think of it, that's not a bad idea!
Politicians are professional liars, and are most deserving of having a season opened on them - the party makes no difference as there is no difference.
Don't forget to remove the radical sort such as this old biddy. There's not a bit of difference between the Christian radicals and the Muslim radicals - radical is radical.

PROCLATAION FOR MORALITY
FROM CITIZENS WHO HAVE ACTUALLY READ THE BIBLE
We, the Literate and Reasonable People of the United States who have avoided or escaped the sort of childhood indoctrination that would lead a person to believe that what is done in private with his or her genitals may trigger God’s wrath in the form of tsunamis, terrorist attacks, and economic recession, invoking a morality based on reducing suffering, that the citizens of this country may be free from the enforcement of the brutal, sexist, homophobic and often silly morality of the Bible; to thwart Christians and their co-religionists as attempts are made to pass off dogma as universal morality and erode the separation of church and state; do establish this proclamation and call upon all those who have ever sassed their parents (Det 21:20-21), disobeyed their husbands (Eph 5:22), picked up sticks on a Saturday (Nmbrs 15: 32-36), or worn anything made of a cotton polyester blend (Lev 19:19) to join with us in protecting morality from Christians who attempt to infect it with their perception of what God told them is bad via the Bible as opposed to actual injustice and suffering.
WHEREAS, “…the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion…” (Treaty of Tripoli – Signed by President John Adams); and
WHEREAS, “The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg” (Thomas Jefferson); and
WHEREAS, “A government cannot be premised on the belief that all persons are created equal when it asserts that God prefers some” (U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun); and
WHEREAS, “...texts from the source we call Holy Scripture have been used in the past to defend the divine right of kings and to oppose the Magna Carta; to condemn Galileo and to assert that the sun does indeed rotate around the earth; to justify slavery, segregation and apartheid; to keep women from being educated, entering the professions, voting or being ordained; to justify war, to persecute and kill Jews; to condemn other world religions; and to continue the oppression and rejection of gay and lesbian people." (Bishop John Shelby Spong); and
WHEREAS, “Secularists have no desire to extol the Bible above its merits, nor to depreciate it below its deserts. We gladly admit that it contains some useful precepts; but these, as a rule, are intermixed with so many teachings of an injurious character that their beauty is often overshadowed and their utility annulled. Its coarse language in many places renders it unfit for general perusal, and destroys its value as a standard for every-day life.” (Charles Watts);
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the reasonable citizens of this country, solemnly declare that a system of morality based solely on the Bible would most certainly be considered evil by today’s moral standards: and
BE IT RESOLVED that the HOPE to which we cling, that the laws and morals of these United States will not devolve to the point of Christian theocracy, rests upon our constitutional religious freedom, the separation of church and state; and a thorough reading of the Bible.

I do believe that an elected official signing that would come very close to violating my 1st Amendment right to separation of church and state.
"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State" - Thomas Jefferson
Let me repeat part of that... "that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions".

The opinions of men do not alter the truth. God sent Jesus to help us since the laws of the old Testament were too opressive for men to be able to follow.God can make the rules because God created the game. No one really wants a theocracy-all they want is for the government to recognize and respect what the founding fathers stood for and that was the belief in a heavenly father who has given us a life of freedom and self determination.Non-believers want to to do and say whatever they want whenever they want in the name of freedom of speech but when someone says something they don't like excercising the same freedom of speech they cannot respect that, and want them to shut up and sit down.We need to remember that in America "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the ddeath your right to say it". Thank God for a place like this.

I read the actual proclamation and it makes a very good statement for living a good and healthful life.
There is nothing legislative about a proclamation of guiding principles of the code of behavior of what a good person should live by.
People that don't like this proclamation are probably violating its principles and should feel guilty about their behavior and hopefully change their behavior.

What is so wrong with morality, respect for others and self respect for one self? What is so wrong with reaching out to others in common decency and consideration for them? What is so wrong with lending a hand of friendship once in awhile to others? What's wrong with a smile once in awhile for the world ? What's wrong with taking responsibility for the pregnancy you helped to create instead of running to the nearest abortion clinic? After all that is a life just as much as yours. Though it isn't a seen life but still a life, not just a blob to be discarded. Think about it real hard, okay? My thanks to Rep.
