The Tulsa Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will consolidate three Tulsa shelters for ice storm victims into one, the agency said Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, people at the shelter at First Baptist Church in downtown Tulsa were merged into the Asbury United Methodist or Good Shepherd Lutheran church shelters.

At 9 a.m. Monday, those remaining two Tulsa shelters will close and merge into a shelter at Crosstown Church of Christ, 3400 E. Admiral Place.

On Saturday night, the total population at the three Tulsa locations was 170.

"Today (Sunday), many more people have left the shelters as their power has been restored," Red Cross spokeswoman Nellie Kelly said.

"We feel that fewer than 150 people will be at the new shelter. That's good news because it means that people are getting electricity and are able to get back to their normal lives."

Most of the shelters in smaller towns are housing about 20 people, she said.

In addition to merging the Tulsa shelters, several other shelters in smaller towns closed Sunday.

The Red Cross served more than 12,500 meals between Thursday and Sunday.

Also Sunday, the agency said that the phone numbers for people who have punctured roofs or broken windows is (918) 831-1109 or (800) 494-0275.

The Red Cross will be sending out disaster assessment crews and will start assisting individuals with getting their houses repaired.

Would anyone have heard if Citizen Corps programs' volunteers were included in the response? (CERT, MRC, Safe & Secure)

What in the world does 2 miles west of Paden mean on Oilton's shelter. Paden is way down south near Okemah.
