Some folks feel AEP-PSO has left them in the dark

A lack of information went hand-in-hand with a lack of power, they say.
Not everyone is so happy with power restoration efforts by AEP-PSO.
You can count Nesey Robinson and Gwen Ellis among them.
Working at a shop in the strip mall at Pine Street and Peoria Avenue, the women were still without power in their homes Saturday afternoon.
"I'm probably not going to get nothing until spring, neither, because I live at 56th Street North," Robinson said. "And they had the nerve to send me a bill yesterday. It's kind of hard to read your bill without light."
Ellis said: "It's frustrating to see lines and lines of trucks in your neighborhood but they're just sitting there. And the electricity is still off."
Both women said they understand how widespread the power outages have been, but said American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma could be doing a better job of communicating with customers.
"I wish they would tell us something about where the work is going on -- a map or something," Robinson said. "It would give people some hope because we don't even know if they're close yet."
A customer at the shopping center said she thought North Tulsa was being ignored until she drove around town a little.
"I went to pick up my son at St. John (Medical Center), where he works and then I realized they didn't have power down there at 21st Street,
either," said E. Harbin. "Only when you see it for yourself can you dispel the attitude that nobody's doing anything north."
Laura Herd, who lives near 61st Street and Sheridan Avenue, was perplexed by the fact that her house was among only a few on her street without power Saturday afternoon.
"It's frustrating that it's taking this long because this is costing us so much money. We have to eat out every evening and we've already lost the money (in food) in the refrigerator and freezer," she said.
Herd said she wished AEP-PSO could have given customers a more precise timeframe for power restoration.
"If they would tell you it's going to be five days, maybe we would have done something different than just day by day hoping for service the next day," she said.

I live in North Tulsa and feel like we were ignored too. Why aren't the crews working all night to fix the problems, like they did in South part of town?
Our neighborhood is STILL out, if there is ao many in town from out of state, how come they aren't working in shifts to fix our electric, so we can have heat and lights?

Don't feel too left out. 31st and Harvard as well as 12th and Florence were still without power Sunday night, a full week later. It is not a north side issue only. Be glad you are able to have family and friends to stay with and post on the internet from.

Well I agree #1 shouldnt feel so unfortunate. Power is still out in areas of 41st and 129th st. It isnt just north tulsa. They obviously have a different power problem effecting some homes. Not related to a grid power problem. Just be thankful you have a floor furnice in your home. People at the areas I mentioned do not. They are in the dark and still freezing. Maybe buy some candles and get a flashlight.

As to the article above. I lost hundreds of dollars in food alone myself. I was without power for 4 days. So was everyone in my family. They also lost hundreds of dollars in food. We had to spend money on tons of batteries and candles and firewood. This is a very expensive ordeal for all of us.

Does anyone know a number for OG&E where you can speak with a human being? I have some elderly relatives who rely on electricity for life-saving equipment and they are still in the dark, and can only get a recording. Now their generator is acting up and they are having difficulty with firewood. If anyone has any info, please post it. Thanks.

There are small pockets without power south of Admiral. Almost everyone is without power north of Admiral. WHY? And God Bless Roscoe. Without him the north siders would have nothing.

And to top it all off, PSO announced on the news that they were losing 3million a day and might have to raise their rates if the corporation commision allows them to. It is time for all affected people to contact their representatives and lobby against this rate hike. It is quite obvious to us all that they were not investing their 3million/day into the infrastructure to ensure that major outages weren't happening. A lot of this mess could have been prevented had PSO invested into the infrastructure instead of making money for it's shareholders.

PSO showed up in my area and I have power since Thursday. I received my bill when my power was out, big deal. PSO sends these bills out at the same time every month and they are done automatically.
This makes me wonder tho.. Does the PSO building ever lose power?

Does anyone know on what basis PSO claims thet aren't responsible for individual service drops? If they were, I bet they would have devised technology that wouldn't damage homes to the extent they are now when limbs fall on the service drop wire. Why is it that all the damage is to houses and the wires never come loose at the pole? Why can't the connection at the pole be designed to 'pop' out sparing damage to houses from ripped off service panels, meters and weatherheads? Class-action lawsuit, anyone?

Hi everyone, I guess the Tulsa World hasn't told everyone yet but PSO is going to up their prices because "they are losing money due to the blackout" so not only are you left in the dark, but you'll be paying the power company for the privledge. Here is a little exerp from the article:
"When we encounter an extraordinary event like this type of storm outage it may very well be that we need to ask the Corp. Commission to recover those costs over a long period of time. The likely hood that a customer would particularly note any type of increase is relatively small," said OG&E Spokesperson Gil Broyles."

This is unbelievable. Why is it PSO's problem electric boxes on homes are damaged? It is not! It is the homeowners fault as they are the ones who plant these trees not thinking about 20 years down the road when they become massive in size. PSO shouldn't be and isn't taking responsibility for them and that is good to see. Tree's are nice and all but people need to plan ahead when planting them.

in 6 years, i've had limbs fall on my wire and on my neighbor's wire that runs through my tree 6 times. i've asked PSO to cut or remove the tree but they wouldn't. however, in a heartbeat, they'll cut or remove a tree growing in the main wires. i don't see the distinction between the main line and the individual service drops in regard to providing safe and reliable electric service...

JW, its funny how you can say stop with the race card but you are being racist yourself. They are scared of being shoot and robbed? Can they not be shot or robbed out south? I think so. Instead of putting people down try to be up lifting and encourage others. And another thing they should have been out north along time ago being that it was "the worse area in Tulsa".

#21 because if the tree belongs to you or your neighbor why should THEY be held liable... If it's in the main line it can affect multiple customers and they will trim them.... if its only affecting a single drop it's nobody's fault but your own... remove the tree or deal with the problem don't go blaming your problem on PSO.
That would be no different than me letting my dog's come crap in your yard and expecting you or the city to pick up after them... there your tree's so there your problem!

TN, you are an idiot if you can't understand my words and you are one who is probably blaming PSO for all of this.. It is not PSO's problem to take care of homeowners who are ignorant and plant trees near homes or their own electric service. Just as #23 stated.

PSO is in the business of providing safe and reliable electric service. if a tree, no matter where it's located, prevents them from fulfilling their mission, they should remove it. as their customer, i already pay for my share of the cost of maintaing the lines. they should maintain the individual lines just as they do the main lines.

Yes they are in the business of providing reliable service just like ONG and the City of Tulsa... If your waterline breaks somewhere in your lawn it's your problem... not the City of Tulsa's... same goes for ONG if your line breaks for whatever reason it's your problem...
It still comes down to the fact of iresponsibility. If you can't take care of your tree's it's not there problem as long as it's not affecting multiple customers.... most people fail to realize that if your tree does grow inside the utility easement in all honesty they CAN completely remove the tree AND fine you the cost of removing it! Usually they just trim them and go on about there business... Your paying an electric bill every month not an electric bill with free tree trimming! If your one of the those people having problems by the overhead lines than each and every one of you needs to contact your local representative about burying the lines... of course then you have to deal with all those people who cant stand a green boxes in there yards
