Watts at fundraiser: Former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts is headlining a Republican fundraiser Thursday at the Southern Hills Marriott.

Tickets to the 6 p.m. reception and dinner afterward are $125, or $50 for the dinner only. Sponsorships are $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000.

For reservations, call the state Republican headquarters at (405) 528-3501.

Bartlett to speak: The Republican mayoral nominee, Dewey Bartlett Jr., will be the featured speaker at the Tulsa Republican Assembly at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Furr's Buffet in The Farm Shopping Center.

Commissioners to speak: County Commissioners Fred Perry and John Smaligo will be featured guests at the Republican Women's Club of Tulsa County meeting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Tulsa Select Hotel, at Interstate 44 and Yale Avenue.

Health care demonstration: Local supporters of health care reform plan to demonstrate at noon Wednesday outside Sen. Jim Inhofe's Tulsa office, 1924 S. Utica Ave.

Republican Men's Club: The Tulsa County Republican Men's Club will meet at noon Wednesday at Hong Kong Restaurant, 7315 S. Memorial Drive.

Ritze on health care: State Rep. Mike Ritze, R-Broken Arrow, appeared last week at the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons convention

in Nashville, Tenn., to promote his attempt to bar federal imposition of health care reform on Oklahoma.

Ritze, a doctor himself, plans to introduce legislation next year that would allow Oklahoma to "opt out" of any reform measures that come out of Congress. If passed, the bill is likely to face significant legal challenges.

Brogdon, Jordan honored: State Sen. Randy Brogdon, R-Owasso, and Rep. Fred Jordan, R-Jenks, have been honored by the Oklahoma State Homebuilders Association.

They were cited for their efforts to create a Uniform Building Code Commission. Jordan was also cited for his part in legislation requiring confirmation of workers compensation and general liability insurance before a building permit is issued.

Jordan is involved in home building, and Brogdon is a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning contractor.

Western Oklahoma House race: State Republicans and Democrats alike put out all-points bulletins last week for volunteers to canvass state House District 55 in western Oklahoma, where a special election to replace Rep. Ryan McMullen, a Democrat, will take place Tuesday.

Republicans think they have a better than even chance to add the seat to their House majority.

The two candidates, Larry Peck, a Sentinel Democrat, and Todd Russ, a Cordell Republican, lost state Senate races in 2006.
