Public safety is top priority, says mayoral candidate
'JOB-GETTINGEST MAYOR'
DEWEY BARLETT JR.:
"I see a strong employment base," the Republican candidate said. "I see strong opportunity — economic opportunity, political opportunity, neighborhood opportunity. "

Tulsa Elections:
Read bios of candidates for mayor, City Council and city auditor and view a map of City Council districts.
Republican mayoral candidate Dewey Bartlett Jr. at his Tulsa Press Club appearance Friday said he sees the city returning to prosperity under his leadership.
"I see a strong employment base," he said. "I see strong opportunity — economic opportunity, political opportunity, neighborhood opportunity.
"I see an entrepreneurial attitude with an emphasis on the many assets we have in this community."
There are also opportunities to build on the city's strong manufacturing and aerospace industries, Bartlett said.
Good city governance will help lead to prosperity, the candidate said.
"And that needs to be done without an increase in taxes," he said. "We need to live within our means and focus on the basics."
Public safety would be a top priority under his administration, Bartlett said, pledging to work to boost the city's police manpower.
When people don't feel safe, economic development is hampered, he said.
Bartlett also said he would oversee the repair of the city's streets under the $451.6 million Fix the Street initiative approved by voters last fall.
"These projects must be done on time and on budget," he said.
Bartlett distinguished
himself from his opponents, Democrat Tom Adelson and independent Mark Perkins, in that he is a businessman who has the experience needed to be the city's chief executive over a workforce of 4,000.
"There is no mayor's internship," he said. "The day I am sworn into office, I will see a very large budget that is a problem. We cannot wait for someone to learn the ropes."
The Keener Oil & Gas president and former city councilor also said his background will help him be the "job-gettingest mayor Tulsa has ever seen."
"We need to create new taxpayers," Bartlett said, noting the best way to do that is to give someone a job.
Bartlett declined to set himself a goal for how many jobs he would bring in, saying "more than we have now."
Bartlett also said he would work with the City Council and other government officials toward Tulsa's success and end the bickering of local politics.
"You have to be able to go to people with an open hand and an open heart," he said. "I can do that. We need to be arm in arm."
The race will be decided in the Nov. 10 general election.
Adelson spoke at the Tulsa Press Club last week, while Perkins is scheduled to appear at noon Oct. 23.

Had all the buzz words down pat. All the politically correct statements. Now how about telling me HOW you plan on achieving these things.

Do you know when Bartlett is fibbing? HJis mouth is moving!!!!! HAHAHA How is he going to get these jobs? i liked to hear his plan because they talk about how they are going to be the job getting people, but they don't tell us what their plan in order to get these jobs. Talk out one side and know htere is nothing on the otherside. Tells us what we want to hear but not tell us how they are going to do it because they have no clue either.

I think from what she has he/she has said, he/she is bobdogs campaign manager...Bobdog is another entity on the TW website. I'm sure you will see him/her if you are around enough...kind of a funny character...speaks in third party all the time.

That's right, Justun. Just because BobDog lives outside the city doesn't mean he can't be mayor, right? After all, we could just move his house to another backyard and voila!
(note to self: Be sure new backyard has trees!)
BobDog for Mayor!

Here's a bet: most of the people, maybe all of the people, who have written for this article are not registered to vote and have a poor voting record. So, it doesn't really matter what they think because they won't make a difference. Remember, these comments sites are nothing more than the modern day graffit that used to appear on the bathroom walls in gas stations.

Typical politition tells you what you want to hear with the same old political buzz phrases but no substance. Never mentioned how he was going to do all these things. Isn't he the one that wants toll roads. Isn't that a form of tax that his party is so against.

Nativedaughter,
Hi, do you know me? Oh, you don't? Well, let me start by telling you that I'm a registered voter that votes every chance I get. I have a good voting record (being that I vote in a majority, ir not all elections or votes)

Again, a candidates(s) are speaking at private clubs and similar type locations.
Native daughter, I've never written graffiti anywhere. I'm registered to vote in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. I've voted in every presidential, senate, congress and mayor, school board, etc. elections since I was old enough to vote in 1972.

nativedaughter, I am a registered voter for probably longer than you have been alive. Not sure what you mean by a poor voting record. You talking about people that don't vote the same way you do. If you mean that they don't vote often then to you I have voted in almost every election I have able to. If these sites are modern day graffity sites then why are you here?

As Mayor Daley once said, "vote early and often." Ole Dewey Junior needs to work on that comb-over but I do note his hair has gotten darker lately. Amazing.

I asked some time ago if he was using "Just For Men". His eyebrows are trimmed and dyed brown. 2 months ago they were grey and bushy. I still wonder if he thought Just For Men would make him more of a man.

I could have run a successfull oil and gas company...This alone does not make you a great politician...but promises of jobs ...safety...etc are nothing new...We'll walk arm in arm alright except he'll be picking my pocket to line his buddies pockets with...He earned his money the old fashioned way...inherited it
